2021 Post Draft Discussion

Overall, I am very pleased.

In terms of needs, instant impact, this is a draft that can put us over the top this year.

Short term and long term, positions and value can't be debated. Most important thing always, obviously, hopefully there are all good players, but pretty seems to got something for everywhere.

I said this in the day three thread, but this draft class feels very "safe" to me.

The guys don't have many risks--medically or mentality/personality.

The guys seem not to be always be the highest upside--athletically the draft was a bit more "meh" than some of the high-RAS benchmarks people tend to associate. A much more mixed bag in that regard.

But very few players that have scouts saying "I dunno, just don't see it with this guy." Some are "just guys" most likely, but very few are not up to snuff or big risks or boom/bust.

It's also guys who are fairly ready to play. Only one big competition jump. Most of the guys came from the SEC or Big10

Multiple guys drafted with pretty solid team connections, also--from the Cobb-is-my-mentor Amari Rodgers to the Luke Getsy coached me in college Kylin Hill to the "grew up in Green Bay" Cole Van Lanen to the "I worked with OSU coach Ryan Day when I was in San Fran" college scouting director (about Meyers).

The team understood the circumstances of being a team that needed quick impacts in a low-information environment of scouting, and they utilized networks and big school programs and top competition to draft solid players with excellent football IQ and personalities.

Just really hard to see half the class "busting" in this one, even if 4 years from now we're saying half of them are solid players but don't need to be re-signed because they're just role players.

But all of that was accomplished without eliminating upside. Everyone has ENOUGH of everything to be successful NFL players even if they don't have enough to win with traits on their own right. Almost no one is limited in some insurmountable way, save maybe that ST LB we drafted who's either a slow stiff safety or a decently-athletic but too-small LB.

Winning is improving the lines and the Packers improved both. An upgrade at CB will help too. The holes are filled.

If our top 3 turn to be players it will be a resounding success.

If the D Tackle is added to that list it will be epic draft. I think Kylin has a real shot at being a solid 7th guy for us too.

If we are being realistic, the hope is one of our 5 OL we have taken the last year becomes a solid starter. If we get two it would be legendary like the 2000's TT drafts with Sitton and Lang.

We already Hanson is a bust.

I do think some will lament about our ILB situation soon enough. But for today, this was a good draft.

Reading between the lines quite a bit, but it sure sounds like there is a possibility Elgton Jenkins is our RT of the future. Especially if you listened to Gutey's Day 2 presser. Kind of weird because I think they keep him at OG until Turner is gone, but not coming away with the obvious heir apparent there from this class kind of speaks volumes in my mind.

Also sounds like the roster may not be complete and that a couple of veterans may be on the radar. So, where do we have holes? No Raven Greene body type (if you don't count the LB they picked) makes me hope they give him a call about coming back. Wouldn't hate a veteran QB brought in sooner rather than later. Gute specifically mentioned ILB may still be thin. What else are we thinking with the state of our roster as it stands?

this was my impression too, it makes sense even though Jenkins could be a all pro G he could also be a very good T and we now seem to have a bunch of interior lineman, and a center for years to come.

and Lafluer prefers outside stretch runs, Bahk is a good run blocking T, but I think Jenkins would be even better, this will be something interesting to pay attention to.

this seems like a really solid draft class, got two CB's Stokes looks like a walk on eith in KIngs spot or even slot, the later drafted one to eventually win the slot possition, maybe.

I have to research this bunch more, but I like what I see so far.

I think it's premature to start worrying about long term RT of the future when Turner is guaranteed a Packer based on his contract until after 2022. So that means we can easily address the RT position in the 2022 draft. Honestly will probably want to start thinking about addressing the LT position ni the 2023 draft then after that.

What I find brilliant about this draft class is that it's an appropriate response to either outcome of our "QB controversy" (if you will). If Rodgers is back, we added guys who can have an immediate impact and help him pick up where he left off last year. If it's Love, this supporting cast should put him in a position to succeed.

We may have sacrificed the opportunity to get higher-ceiling players who will more richly reward their team in favor of guys who give us an immediate impact or to plug holes, but I think this was more or less the right overall strategy for the position we find ourselves in right now.

I would have like to see us address defense with one of the Day 2 or early Day 3 picks that we used on O. Then again, our defense played well enough for us to win last year and could elevate their play if existing young guys take the next step.

Ultimately, the offense has got to come through for us and perform when we need it most. They just got plenty of help.

He'd have to play pretty poorly to be cut after this season. If he plays well at RT in 2021 like he did in 2020, the Packers are keeping him. His contract is set up pretty nice that the savings after replacement cost of a roster spot is roughly $3.5 million. Even if the replacement is on a rookie contract.

Generally I'm pretty excited about the drafts. Except last year's and this year"s.

For some reason, I'm a little underwhelmed with the 2021 draft. 1st and 3rd rounders seem to be the best players chosen. Those 2 players will have to pan out for this draft to be a success.

Meyers may be a serviceable center.

Newman may be the RT of the future. If that happens, along with Amari Rodgers and Eric Stokes, I'll be pretty happy.

Slaton is raw and has a long way to go. Weight could be a problem for him in the future. He was at one point up to 360lbs. I guess he came down to 330lbs. Let's hope he doesn't spend too much time at Weasel's mini donuts.

I'm just not excited about most of these players. One good thing is that Gute doesn't mainly rely on the draft. So when the cap goes up again in a few years, he could bring in some FAs

your not taking into account the best 5 play rule ( well it's only a un written rule though)

nice to be in this position with the OL, when you have to demote a past starter to back up duty or another position to be better over all moving a stud to a position for more team progress, well you know your doing pretty good.

I just vision Elky and MARVIN Lewis opening up huge gaps for our RB's to get through on the strong side

heck Foos, with most drafts round 3 and beyond are groom up type players, from everything I've read which isn't a lot Meyers is a plug and play center, Stokes will probably start in the slot position over Sullivan pretty quick ( how can you keep 4.3 speed on the sideline), you know Lafluer will want his new slot gadget Receiver A Rodgers on the field as well, and that big NT will see the field on pure run plays I'd think, thats 3 plus starters possibly in there rookie seasons, not a bad haul.

If he is, I agree. But we don't really have much position or stance that Jenkins is a better tackle at this point than say Billy Turner.
