Palmy - "Very few have the ability to truly excel regardless of system. For many the system is the difference between being just a guy or an NFL starter. Fact is, everyone is talented at this level."
oh, heck I thought that was a given, when we move3d him to left tackle when Bakh was hurt, then moved him back inside to LG, was it because he stunk at Tackle, or was it because we didn't have a guy that could play LG well enough? I always thought the later.
Jenkins played LG, RG and C all season for the exception the first game where he played RT. Jenkins also played one half at LT vs SF when Rick Wagner got hurt.
Rich Wagner played LT vs Tampa when Bak got hurt and was terrible. The Packers then put Billy Turner at LT and Wagner at RT.
So Jenkins has a game of experience at RT and about a quarter at LT.
It was pretty clear we preferre to keep him inside but also had the luxury of moving him outside if 2 of Bakh, Turner or Wagner were hurt.
Preferably have Jenkins at guard for run game and to help the new centre.
Right tackle not that much of a premium unless a lefty QB ... I assume Love is a righty? Haven't watched highlights in a while.

Turner holds a cap hit of $8,971,250 in 2022. His dead cap is $4,863,750. If he plays RT like he did in 2020, saving $5 million is not worth cutting him.

It's actually only $4.1 million savings and you have to pay someone else probably $750k minimum or higher to replace him. So net we are looking at $3 million to $3.5 million or less.
Turner's restructure was designed where he is basically a Packer until after the 2022 season.

I feel like it was an OK haul.
Im really not a big fan of the Stokes pick. I guess everything is gonna come down to coaching. The Sam Shields comparison I can see. Even Shields had some funky footwork and technique but he made up for it with incredible closing speed. Stokes has to be more consistent tackling. If you can coach him up and get him to clean up his game he will be a pretty good player. If not hes just another Kevin King but I get picking the toolsy player to an extent. I just cant get past not taking Barmore there.
Meyers was a terrific pick. I think Creed might have been slightly better but it was like 2a/2b thing behind Dickerson. This is going to be a really good player for us. Especially in the run game.
I dont really like the Rodgers pick where we got him and how we traded to get him. Fine player. Terrific hands, good route running. All things that he has to have because he lacks the ability to separate with speed. I think hes a good football player but not a dynamic one and thats what I would prefer from a slot guy.
I hated the Newman pick at first. Gonna be a 24 year old rookie. I really thought there were some great DT prospects there and I thought Shaun Wade was a steal. Not a bad pick on what Ive read. Experienced at G and OT. Really athletic number and good size. Just the 24 year old thing sucks. At that point I think you are what you are.
Love the Slaton pick. Ive wanted to get Kenny help on the interior for years. This could put Clark into more of a playmaking position on the line if the pick hits. Hes still new to the position so I expect them to bring him along slowly. If he can be a big time run stuffer on early downs while Keke can rsuh the passer maybe we wont have to rely on Clark dominating the DT snap counts league wide.
I know pretty much nothing on the CB. Reading up on him hes productive as hell. Small and not a standout as an athlete. Teres potential here for a future nickel.
Cole Van Lanen isnt a bad pick either. I love grabbing team long term LTs and trying them out across the line to see where theyre best at. He may end up just being a depth player but we desperately need to improve the dpeth of our OL and eventually get out of that God awful Billy Turner deal.
Im grinding the tape on McDuffie that I can find and its still early in the process but so far I think this guy might end up being a star. His coverage aint bad and this dude can tackle. Hes decently athletic. ACC LB so you know he can sift through traffic and play the run. I think this is the next Blake Martinez with a little less size and more speed.
I liked Kylin Hill coming into the draft. I thought he might go in the 4th or 5th. Not really a special back but good all around. Very Jamaal Williams like. You need guys like that.
The UDFAs are blah to me. I really like the Gaither kid though. I could see there being something there in time. He seems to have real speed. Could be a good gunner possibly.

I was wondering the same thing. For as much as I enjoyed and loved Cobb, he could sure disappear for long hauls at a time. (That makes it all the more amazing that he produced as much as he did.) He could've done even more if he had the quick twitch or even the short speed that other guys have had. So, as much as I see good things for Rodgers, you got a guy who has 1 of the 2 preferred tools. I won't knock that. But I sure wish there were a guy with both tools in his toolbox.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑03 May 2021 03:39I dont really like the Rodgers pick where we got him and how we traded to get him. Fine player. Come on down and try some of our delicious green chili! Best in the world!
Special Teams should certainly have gotten a boost from this draft.
Eric Stokes will be a gunner on Teams like haven't had since Janis who single handedly made our punt units respectable.
Amari Rodgers should be a decent punt returner but honestly we have multiple options behind Rodgers to do this as well.
We have speed for Kick off Return in Stokes but we also have a running in Hill who is pretty agile and can likely be effective in that role as well.
The linebacker, McDuffie, we got is super fast and should fill a STs role easily.
So those are positives.

See Cobb did have the quick twitch. He just lost it in 2015 and that is when he became the irrelevant Cobb. Unfortunately when we see comparisons to Cobb, we are seeing comparisons to irrelevant Cobb and not 2011 - 2014 Cobb.Scott4Pack wrote: ↑03 May 2021 06:37I was wondering the same thing. Overall it is a 3rd rounder. If he ends up being a 2015 - 2018 Cobb on a cheap rookie contract in a round that has had us produce Burks, M Adams, Deguara (got the 3rd round injury curse), Thornton, Alex Green etc. I will be happy.
Seriously. The Packers absolutely suck in Round 3.

Honestly I DO understand wanting more speed and twitch from the slot position, but the tone of these comments strikes me as odd if you've watched him play in the least. He creates plenty of separation and makes up for his lack of speed in the open field with broken tackles. After he catches a pass it's like a RB who has reached the second level on a run. There's some elusiveness and some tackle breaking, and plenty of playmaking. I just don't see him as a deficient slot. You're underselling him and the role tailor-made for him in our offense if you're seeing it that way.
Granted, he's a slot. I don't think he'll ever have a 1,400-yard season like Cobb's top year because we'll spread it around more outside of Adams. But the feeling that he's in some way a draft disappointment is absolutely nuts to me.

Cobb was hurt to often, when healthy he was almost always open, heck he had over 800 yrds with Dallas in 019
I picture Rodgers to be able to get open even easier in MLF schemes

It's true. ALWAYS dinged up. Missed too many games and was limited in too many games.
Which is why it's nice that this kid is 210 pounds.
Also, the past 5 years, even this non-explosive Cobb averaged 4 catches and 45 yards a game for GB, Dallas and Houston. That's not a ton, but it's a 65-catch, 750 yard receiving season, if healthy. That's plenty good slot production.
RIP JustJeff
Having a fat guy wear #93 has to be the best news I have seen all year.
Don't get any ideas in your head TJ of wanting to play at 320 pounds. Fate has chosen you are a 350 guy.
And a great 3rd down back who can catch and pass block wearing #32?! Oh my heart.
The number assigner is feeling nostalgic today.

Ha, I had the same thought about Slaton's number. Didn't make that connection with Hill though, good call.go pak go wrote: ↑03 May 2021 11:38Having a fat guy wear #93 has to be the best news I have seen all year.

'Shoulda given Van Lanen #65, but maybe they'll assign it to the other WI OL who's more of a T.

Of the 44 guys I put on my pre-draft "wish list," 22 of them went to 6 NFL teams who each had at least three players on my list.
And that doesn't even include guys I like high in round one but didn't consider because they're out of reach for me.
Basically I should be a scout for the Jets, Chargers, WFT, Jaguars, Lions, or Eagles Clearly their GMs are on the same page as I am
