What Are You Watching?

Cheesy topics (like the Cheese Curds thread) go here. Topics that aren't Packer related will be moved here as well.

Mmmm.... cheese.

Since the start of Covid I have watched all of the original Star Trek, TNG, DS9, Voyager, amd Enterprise as well as every star Trek movie up to Nemesis.

I don't have CBS All Access. And JJ Abrams sucks.

Mare of Easttown is starting STRONG on HBO, with Kate Winslet doing a captivating performance. It's a murder mystery where I don't even care about solving the murder, I wanna know what's going on in the main character's head and feelings. And those haven't been explained yet, only hinted at with subtle facial expressions.

Actually just started the original series about two weeks ago, almost done with season one.

Pretty sure I’m in the minority, but I really liked the new Star Trek movies. Pine and Quinto were like perfect castings, imo.

Third one kind of sucked, first and second were really good.

I liked them for what they were. I think I liked the third one a little better than the second actually.

Anyone watch Invincible?

I hate cartoons and I’m tired of super hero themed stuff but that was a damned good story. Kept me interested. I would say it’s worth a watch if anyone has the time. If you watch through the entire first episode I think it will hook you.
Cancelled by the forum elites.

Wife and I started watching all of the movies on the AFI 100 years, 100 movies list (2007 edition). So far that's Ben-Hur, Toy Story, Yankee Doodle Dandy, Blade Runner, Do the Right Thing, The Last Picture Show, Pulp Fiction, The French Connection, and Goodfellas. Only a couple of thumbs-down from us so far. And even those we can find merit in.

Next up, Sophie's Choice. Might try to get that one in on Saturday.

Big Brother started yesterday. I haven't watched the episode yet, probably will tonight. Watched almost every episode since Season 3 in 2002. A few years ago watched every episode except Season 1 on CBS All Access (now part of Paramount+). Have been very few good seasons since Season 14 in 2012, but watching that show is a summer thing we do.

It is a totally different game now than it used to be. And not in a good way. Almost every serious fan of the show who has
seen all the seasons knows after season 10 in 2008 it isn't the same. In no particular order, seasons 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10 are all excellent. 14 is also very good, and 11, 12, 13 and 16 have their merits (many rate 16 higher than I do). A lot of people like season 4 but IMO the cast was very boring.
Two years ago (21) was pretty good for a modern season. The reason for the drop off is usually one or both of: boring cast that are there to become famous vs playing the game, and too many stupid twists by production. We will see how this season goes.

Watched the new Mortal Kombat movie yesterday. That was... odd. There were some really good parts. But I really didn't love any of the characters /actors and the story was just kind of odd and went weird directions. Obvious they are planning more, curious if they actually happen.

Maybe I'm tainted because of my love of the originals. Yes, those are majorly flawed too. But they were more fun and had better soundtracks.

The wife and I are watching this. Pretty good so far. I see they just cancelled it, so Season 3 will be the last, but I figured they would quickly run out of places to go. Still enjoying it.

Well that is pretty lame, season 3 definitely ended with more questions than resolutions. Definitely not written with the expectation it could be the last episode.

Many of these shows would be better if planned as a mini series....the writers need a definite ending in mind at the start.

I assume their is more ROI for series that just run until they are out of gas or get to 7 seasons (syndication, right?)

I think that's the reason shows like Breaking Bad are so successful. They had an end game planned and didn't go on too long. Sure you aren't going to get a show that lasts for 25 years, but so what? Go on and write the next one.

Far too many shows end with stuff hanging. Gets frustrating to start a series and have that happen. Several out there that my wife and I have wanted to start and haven't because we found out they ended prematurely. What's the point of starting it if you know you won't be satisfied in the end?

The action was good, but they kinda made it too serious. And it can't pull serious off, because the characters are fundamentally cheesy and there are too many of them to establish them.

I did appreciate them making a real effort, tho. Would watch a sequel.

Exactly. It's so over the top, it needed more comedy. The original movies had that. The game had that. But yes, I'll watch the sequel, should one come out.
