Percent of vote the winner got will be in parenthesis, position change vs. 2020 will be in brackets.

Here's how this works:

Each day there is a new thread/poll, starting at #1, on down to whereever we get. The whole point of this exercise is to have something to talk about in the lean news months to carry us to camp. Each poll will be open for voting for 24 hours. New threads will only be created on weekdays. Ties will cause a runoff poll.

Simply voting is not enough!

Post why you voted for who you did and provide a player to add to the next poll (every poll will be a list of 10 guys, a new player is added to the list each day).

Here's the thing. There is no criteria. This is an exercise to foster discussion therefore there are no clear criteria for ranking. Who is better right now? Who will have the best season? Who was better last year? Sort of a combo of them all? Do you take positional value into account? It really doesn't matter.

Lowry came in second for #24, doesn't that mean he's automatically #25? I don't understand voting for two if only one gets picked. This isn't ranked-choice voting. :idn:

Sullivan, Martin, Funchess, Newman all make sense to me here. I am going with the first two since they have the most votes.

Summers may have been getting some love early as second-fiddle to Barnes, but it sounds like Martin looked good in OTAs. He did last time, too, but I truly believe that the injury messed up his development by abruptly taking him off the field for an extended period of time.

Asking a rookie to pick up where they left off in camp after several weeks away from the action seems like a lot to ask, so I am quite encouraged by reports that he's looking good early. Hopefully he can maintain that momentum without interruption.

Sullivan is our #4 CB, and will play a ton of snaps, same with Lowery, after Clark he is our most consistent DT, Martin on deck for Monday

Consistently third-class, correct. 8-)

sure we'd like improvement, but I think your mis informed, Lowery had 36 tackles, 3 sacks, and 2 PD's, Clark had 42 tackles, 2 sacks, and NO PD's.

Lowery averages 40 tackles a season, we kept LOwery on because he is our 2nd best DT.

Thank you for neatly illustrating why stats without context are meaningless. Although Clark and Lowry are seemingly close in stats here, what the numbers do not tell you is that Clark is an impact player and one of the top DL in the league while Lowry is a run liability with pass-rush and not appreciably better than Tyler Lancaster.
we kept LOwery on because he is our 2nd best DT.
That does not, ipso facto, mean that he's worth a &%$@. Our IDL situation behind Clark has been mediocre for years, and guys like Lowry are the reason why.

in a traditional 40 front Lowery would be fine, in the 20 fronts we've used he gets pushed around more, I disagree, he is better then anyone not named Clark, or they would get more playing time, Clark is one of the top DT's in the league, thinking that others have to be just as good isn't rational, and the stats are not out of context, as you can plainly see right here.

t wasn’t as if Lowry was bad. Last season, according to Pro Football Focus, 89 interior defenders played at least 160 run-defending snaps. Lowry ranked 17th in PFF’s run-stop percentage, a metric that essentially measures impact tackles. (For instance, a first-and-10 tackle that limits the play to 3 yards is considered a run stop; a gain of 4 yards would not be a run stop.) In 2018, Lowry was 38th. He recorded eight stuffs vs. the run in 2019 compared to seven in 2018. (A stuff is a tackle at or behind the line vs. the run.) Meanwhile, 104 interior defenders rushed the passer at least 160 times. Lowry finished 69th in PFF’s pass-rushing productivity, a metric that takes into account sacks, hits and hurries per pass-rushing snap. In 2018, Lowry was 44th. After recording seven sacks in his first three seasons, he didn’t have any in 2019. His pressure count fell from 29 in 2018 to 20 in 2019.

You're probably right about that, but alas, this is not "Rank players for a traditional 40 front." It's Rank the (Packer's) Roster.

Even in the new scheme, Lowry is not going to be playing like a 4-3 DL. I do think the move to one-gap will help him a bit and he will get a few more sacks/TFLs than his usual (owing, I predict, more to "hustle plays" than any great talent of his), but while he can be serviceable in some respects, he is not stand out in any respect.

In that case, why are Dean voters not also voting for Lancaster? What appreciable difference exists between those two players, other than draft-caliber (where Dean was a 4th and Tyler was UDFA)?

I disagree, he is better then anyone not named Clark,
Again, that really is not saying much of anything. "Tallest midget" kind of thing. Keke is a much better pass-rusher, and not appreciably worse against the run, which probably is why we have ranked him much higher than Dean. Him and Lancaster are pretty neck-and-neck. Slaton can probably be a better player by the end of the year if the coaches handle it right.

Clark is one of the top DT's in the league, thinking that others have to be just as good isn't rational,
I am glad you have said here that Clark is "one of the top DT's in the league" <sic> while you notably did not say the same about Lowry (which you shouldn't, because he clearly is not). So when the stats show them to be similar quality players, that portrayal is not in keeping with reality. So, we are agreed on that. Good.

Also, Lowry played 3 more games than Clark last season. That's some fairly important C O N T E X T that was missing from the analysis.

Of course it's not rational to think Dean should be as good as Clark. I never said as much. What I do expect, and this is just me personally, that a DT should actually be *good* at one of the two things they are supposed to do: rush the passer -OR- stop the run. If I had a DT who was good at one of those things but sucked at the other, I would still have more to say about what they are actually good at than Dean Lowry. Lots of the guys still on the list are actually good at something at their positions, too, which is why they get my vote before Lowry.

and the stats are not out of context, as you can plainly see right here.

I think he'll get more opportunity than Amari will this year, and possibly Stokes. Not so much Myers though. Regardless the amount of snaps he'll get, he'll prove he deserves more.

I think all 3 are greater contributors this year. Stokes will definitely get more playing time. Rodgers will get plenty of offensive snaps as well as special teams. My opinion.
