Training Camp - Day 4

I wish I could give great insights, but unfortunately we gambled on the wrong end for team drills. My biggest takeaway from today is people in charge care about special teams. Unique drills, lots of high end talent involved, and coaches screaming at players after every single rep.
Crosby a rock. JK Scott, up and down as usual.

Few who stood out to me, Billy Gaither more than once, not sure how much of a shot he has.
Honestly also twice. Saw a good burst off the line and a good cut, later noticed it was Cobb. He looks really good imo. He was also working with punt returners.

They need to bring someone is with more consistency than Scott. I don’t even care if he doesn’t have the leg. If he can steadily kick the ball 40 yards with good hang time I’m fine with that.NCF wrote: ↑31 Jul 2021 12:21I wish I could give great insights, but unfortunately we gambled on the wrong end for team drills. Right. Admit drafting a punter was silly and push this guy with comp.
On the other scott. I think he could be a nice late round 3rd safety. Fast physical with play making traits

I actually don’t have a huge problem drafting a punter. They just got a bad one. All time talent in terms of power and hang time but in my opinion if you have no consistency you are garbage.Backthepack4ever wrote: ↑31 Jul 2021 16:38lupedafiasco wrote: ↑31 Jul 2021 15:05They need to bring someone is with more consistency than Scott. Had they gotten one earlier like the Seahawks did we would be in great shape. They probably have the best punter in the league and he went in the same round as Scott. Meanwhile Cooke from the Jags went a lot later is also one of the leagues better punters.
Drafting a long snapper though is all time stupid.

* Equanimeous St. Brown has had a really nice start to camp. If he keeps this up when the pads come on, he’s going to make things really interesting when it comes to deciding the WR group.
* At one point early on in team, the offense ran a bit a of delayed crosser for Cobb out of a bunch formation, with the rest of the eligible receivers running coverage off, leaving a wide open lane underneath for Randall to catch and turn upfield. I'd expect to see that a bunch this season.

If we keep a 6th WR, it will be really important that they can try and contribute on STs, but also that they play well with Love.BSA wrote: ↑02 Aug 2021 20:38from Cheesehead TV, camp notes - many more notes in the blog, linked below

For one, their preseason snaps will come with Love. But it also may be part of the equation we want that spot to go to a guy who has good chemistry with our future QB.

"Elgton Jenkins says he's been focusing on LT all offseason. He's still more comfortable at left guard, but he's had months to prepare for possibility of starting Week 1 as the blindside LT."
there's your answer. So y'all can stop flipping Turner or Kelley, Elgton is your LT to start the season.

Going to have to make some real tough financial decisions this offseason. Billy Turner has lived up to (not really exceeded) his contract thus far, but an offensive line of Bakhtiari and 4 people on rookie contracts (Back, JRJ, Myers, Braden/Newman, Jenkins) would look really nice for a year when we'd really need it most. Even if its only for 1 year till we gotta make Elgton the highest paid player at this position whatever that might be.BSA wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021 12:49from presser

Its almost like you would want to keep him at guard until after he signs his next contract just so they can pay him like a guard instead of a tackle.BF004 wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021 13:04Going to have to make some real tough financial decisions this offseason. I Do Not Hate Matt Lafleur
sounds easy to just go from G to T, if it was every G would become a T, lol, obviously it's not, hopefully Elgton is that one in 278.000 ( exaggerating for affect) that is a T that we've disguised as a GBF004 wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021 13:04Going to have to make some real tough financial decisions this offseason. once he smells the T dollars he'll never go back to G, heck next year is a contract season, I bet he finishes the season at RT.
course some G's are making RT money now, so we'll see.
it feels so nice to worry that we'll have to trade or let go of a starting oliner versus worrying if we have 5 worthy enough to start
The Packers re-did his deal to massage the cap and I believe Turner is a net neutral on the cap side for 2022 - meaning not much savings if GB moves on.
https://overthecap.com/player/billy-turner/3006/
Having a capable RT for his $ 8.9M cap number isn't too bad, especially since only a part of it is guaranteed
https://overthecap.com/contracts/
click on RT to see the contract numbers and note that the players/agents are already "spending" the new TV money even though it doesn't arrive till 2023

I mean, this has been discussed quite a bit, RT's really don't get more than guards. Maybe some, but not significantly more. And if you are talking from going to All-Pro guard to and above average or even great tackle, you would probably get more at guard. And Jenkins will already have inherent value from showing what he can do at guard, so moving him to tackle and even if he is amazing, really isn't going to change his price tag very much. IMO.Drj820 wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021 13:23Its almost like you would want to keep him at guard until after he signs his next contract just so they can pay him like a guard instead of a tackle.BF004 wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021 13:04Going to have to make some real tough financial decisions this offseason. Feel like I can almost copy and paste my last response in terms of the $$, but even more to this. He has played tackle before, he has been decent, albeit limited.Yoop wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021 13:24sounds easy to just go from G to T, if it was every G would become a T, lol, obviously it's not, hopefully Elgton is that one in 278.000 ( exaggerating for affect) that is a T that we've disguised as a GBF004 wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021 13:04Going to have to make some real tough financial decisions this offseason. I just quoted a post where it was said he was training to play tackle all offseason.
Never even implied whatsoever it's easy to go from guard to tackle, but given circumstances (he's played tackle, he's practicing tackle, he is looking likely to play tackle given the time of Bak's injury, at the time I was thinking Billy Turner could be let go in a cost saving move, BSA commented on that, perhaps RT could be in his future long terms as well) he may get some snaps there next year, or even when time to resign and Turner will be an FA, might already have him pencilled at RT, although financially, there isn't a very significant difference.
wow, actually I was agreeing with you, just forgot to say that I was agreeing with youBF004 wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021 14:54Feel like I can almost copy and paste my last response in terms of the $$, but even more to this. was complimenting Jenkins who is the 10th rated Guard, so don't see us making him the most expensive G in the league as DR J suggested might happen.
whatever, I think quality Tackles are harder to find then Guards so if Jenkins does well at T then thats where I'd play him
