From Lambeau to Lombardi, Holmgren, McCarthy and LaFleur and from Starr to Favre, Rodgers and now Jordan Love we’re talking Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers football. This Packers Forum is the place to talk NFL football and everything Packers. So, pull up a keyboard, make yourself at home and let’s talk some Packers football.
So we have sources who say that Gilmore wanted to play for GB.
It now looks like Gilmore will not get a new contract and play with the current one and enter FA in 2022.
And we know the trade compensation was a 2023 6th round pick
That was literally everything I was hoping for 3 hours ago for us.
He hasn't signed a new contract yet, that doesn't mean one is not forthcoming. "As of now"
Wilde has commented that most, if not all sources that came out with Green Bay being interested were from NE, for what it is worth.
Palmy - "Very few have the ability to truly excel regardless of system. For many the system is the difference between being just a guy or an NFL starter. Fact is, everyone is talented at this level."
I'm confused why we couldn't do a deal even with a trade. We aren't on the hook for any dead cap at that point right? So couldn't we tear up the contract at trade time if we wanted for a new one?
according to yoop ( ) 5th and 6th round picks are misses so often by GMs that when they dont hit it never crosses their mind. Yet we like our 5th and 6th round picks so much we cant donate one to the Pats for Gilmore. Makes sense!
(just messin yoop, I knew we would not give up anything for the guy)
we just don't have the molla, Gilmore will prove to the Panthers that he's healed up and worthy of a multi year deal for more then we can even hope to scronge up, and probably ink a 3 year deal prior to the end of the season
Oh we could have made room for it for sure. When it makes sense to do it you find a way.
I don't get it. You could get a potential All Pro CB for under $6 million for a 2023 5th. Let him play for you. Ball out. Sign a big deal with a different team in the offseason and then get a 2023 3rd or 4th comp pick as a result.
Like this was the dream scenario. I seem to defend GMs more than bash them. But I don't get not pulling the trigger here.
not sure how much control Gilmore had concerning where he'd go, but I doubt he'd willingly go to a team that can't resign him after this season such as us, once he shows the Panthers he is who he use to be they'll resign him, at least thats my impression, the mid to late round compensation imho was not the deciding factor.

No, that can't be done. The contract remains unless he and the Packers sign a new contract.

That would be so easy to do.
Russ: Hey Stephon. So we are going to tear up your current contract for the remaining $5.75 Million and give you instead a $6 million contract with a $4 million sign bonus and $2 million base salary. It frees $1.75 million for us this year and you get an extra $250k for literally the same thing.
Stephon: "Okay"
If the rumors are true he was going to sign with us if cut at 4:00, then this could have easily been done.
Yal think this might be the kind of thing year after year that Rodgers gets pissed off at the org about?
Maybe it was Rodgers' input that helped squash the move...?
Or maybe...?
Picture it in your mind: the Packers and Panthers are in a trade bidding war for Gilmore's services. Gutekunst is ready to close the deal with a 5th...but wait! First we need Rodgers sign-off!
Hold on, Bill, I'll get right back with you...
Meanwhile, Rodgers had placed his cell on silent before going off to practice, sees the call from Gute whilst leading the locker room in post-practice voodoo séance calling for Gute's demise, and ignored it.
Belichick being the impatient man he is gets annoyed and closes the deal with the Panthers.
Packer fans again want Gutekunst's head.
Another master play by Rodgers to get rid of Gute...

You want to believe it was easy, but we don't know that. Why would Gilmore sign a multi-year deal for only $6 million?

You'd Void years like we have for everyone else on our team so he can be a UFA in 2022. I don't know if that would impact our Comp formula or not.

We would have had to cut someone to make room for him on the 53. We could have just cut a fringe player whose cap number would make Gilmore fit once he was cut.

We would have probably cut a person outside the top 51, so it would not have affected our cap space. Or used the open spot that was just filled.

Every player after Roster Cutdown I believe counts toward the Cap. The top 51 rule I believe is only a March - August thing when there are 90 player rosters.
All 53 players and Practice Squad included. So you would see some offset.

Gotchya, well we just signed someone so there was a spot open, thus no need to cut someone.
