Saw some still shots of that on Twitter. Super disappointing and probably did have plenty to do with missing four kicks to the left.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑11 Oct 2021 05:02As I said in the game, gotta trust people to do their job in that situation. I will say this after I rewatched. On the 3 he missed the right side came crashing through yet again and all 3 kicks went left. Was Crosby trying to avoid a block? Cant say. The one he made there was no real rush off the right side. Im not sure how you can go 3 consecutive weeks and have the same problem on STs.

I still wonder if Gary got a hand on Burrow on the OT int. He was close on the backside but they never showed a shot from a different angle. If he didn't touch him, Burrow was certainly hearing the footsteps.Drj820 wrote: ↑10 Oct 2021 17:57Gary May have caught a stray bullet in my post that wasn’t fair, but he underwhelms me every week thus far in his new expanded role. I think he’s getting credited for pressures bc he’s “close” to the qb, even when he isn’t affecting the play a whole lot. I admit I may have been using hyperbole, but I expect more.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑10 Oct 2021 17:55I agree with most of this post, but...
Did Gary mess up? He has through 4 weeks led the team in pressures, and while not translating to a lot of sacks, seems involved in plays and useful in the run defense. They're trying some new stuff with him that they used to do with Z and he's not as good at that stuff yet as Z, but I don't think "not a good football player" is even remotely fair. He seems pretty good. I'd buy that he's not a "top 12 pick kind of player at this point in his career."
The how is that you fire a ST coach and you don’t go outside the building and bring in someone to set a new culture who has new ideas, but you just promote someone who was already apart of one of the worst units in the league to the top spot, probably bc that person is cheap, and then just move on.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑11 Oct 2021 05:02As I said in the game, gotta trust people to do their job in that situation. Just because Mo was on other ST coach's staff, doesn't mean he has the same ideas. If I took my boss's job right now, I'd do things a lot differently.Drj820 wrote: ↑11 Oct 2021 07:15The how is that you fire a ST coach and you don’t go outside the building and bring in someone to set a new culture who has new ideas, but you just promote someone who was already apart of one of the worst units in the league to the top spot, probably bc that person is cheap, and then just move on.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑11 Oct 2021 05:02As I said in the game, gotta trust people to do their job in that situation. Yup. We have externally hired plenty of STs coordinators in my lifetime and yet the Packers performance at STs has pretty much been the same.paco wrote: ↑11 Oct 2021 07:59Just because Mo was on other ST coach's staff, doesn't mean he has the same ideas. Great kicker
Struggle at punter
Struggle everywhere else for the exception of some outliers (Allan Rossum at returner, Hyde at returner and Janis at gunner)

It was interesting to hear Mo in the presser like REALLY push back on "same ole' Packers" special teams.
He said, explicitly, if you don't know the nuances, I understand it looks the same, but if you understand ST play, you'd see that we're really really close.
It sounds like very typical CYA talk. But I am curious about whether they'll improve/turn a corner or not. We seem to let one KO return leak per game. Our FG protection has notable issues. The punt coverage team has been very strong throughout. The punt return team has been pretty underwhelming.
A lot of issues. A couple brighter spots. At this point, I think the only thing we can do is hope. I doubt changing the staff and whole approach mid season will improve things immediately. So we have to count on hope and adjustments.
The FG protection thing is weird, right? Mo seems CONVINCED that if the operation goes on time, the outside rusher cannot physically get to the ball in time, so there isn't a need to improve protection on that guy. But the right side keeps leaking from the interior, as well; and that's what he said needed to get fixed (as well as allegedly a tell by the holder, which MLF brought up and Mo tried to be more discreet about who to blame). But on at least two kicks yesterday, the interior right side looked leaky again.
As long as Mo is the ST coach, we'll have to get used to seeing that outside guy come pretty clean; it's his method. But the inability to get the interior blocked is a failure even by his own standards.

Someone pointed out that Lancaster was the wide right guy on at least 1 of the FG's. Shows he's at least trying to do something different. Wish I knew more about ST and what to look for.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑11 Oct 2021 08:14It was interesting to hear Mo in the presser like REALLY push back on "same ole' Packers" special teams.

we rank 23rd after 4 games this year compared to 29th last season, so we are a little better.

It really is THE method. If they overload a side, it is impossible to get the outside guy. Like you and Mo said, we CAN'T let the inside guy come through. Tonyan is still letting that happen.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑11 Oct 2021 08:14As long as Mo is the ST coach, we'll have to get used to seeing that outside guy come pretty clean; it's his method. It was weird seeing Garvin out ball Gary yesterday.

But he didn't, as a whole. There is some HUGE confirmation bias going on here. I hoped it would have abated by now, but sadly that is not the case.

I don’t care about the nuance that Mo claims is different now. I will change my tune on the STs as soon as the results improve. The final result is what is important to me. So far, he’s got the punt team performing pretty well. Outside of that, punt returns never get any yards, field goal team has been a disaster waiting to happen most of the year, and kickoff team coverage is so bad you have players not on the team volunteering to help fix the problem.
Im happy we won the game, just not satisfied with the happy talk from the STs coach. Time to see the results improve. A quarter of the season has been played.

I had completely forgotten we had a LaDarius Hamilton on the roster. He actually provided some pressure, nice surprise.

He looked good most of the time I saw him, but he also did have some ugly washouts in run D. For who and where he is, good contribution. But I'm not going to advocate for a bigger role or anything.

Ya, for a guy that is supposed to be there mostly on running downs he STRUGGLED against the run.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑11 Oct 2021 09:23He looked good most of the time I saw him, but he also did have some ugly washouts in run D. I agree, people are still defending Gary as though we hit it out of the park with that pick, 3 tackles and 2 pressures doesn't exactly impress me, and Garvin practically a unknown player almost gets the same PFF grade.
