this has to go down as one of the best decisions Guty has made to date, and confirms the opinion of some of us here, which is that the position has been under rated as a need here for many years, Campbell forces QB's to look elsewhere which gives our pass rush that split second to get pressure, for years we watched as QB's shredded our interior, nice to have a real enforcer now protecting our underbelly :aok:

He's going to cost so much money to bring back. But I think it has to be a priority.

This could go a long way for him in terms of our prior discussion regarding his All-Pro selection chances.

Yes, I was going to eat a little crow based on this news, but I was on my phone when I first posted about it

I'm curious about what his market will be.

We are his 3rd team. He has sucked everywhere and then has one really good season.

What does that honestly command?

could we get some moderation in here to get rid of conspiracy theory's, some in here are trying to have a adult conversation.

I agree this isn't a mega-deal kind of situation.

The question is: can we even afford a reasonable deal?

Starting out like 30 million over the cap

Gunna be a very different looking team next year.

Not sure what the Saints did, but they passed us up as worst cap scenario heading into next offseason at 52 million over.

Campbell far from sucked for the Cardinals or Atlanta. He was not this level, but also wasn't given the opportunity to do what he does here. Just a shot in the dark, but maybe $7M/year like Trevathan got? Maybe more. Hell, Blake Martinez got $10M+. Probably looking at around $20M in practical guarantees on a 3 year type of deal.

That completely depends on what type of Packers team we want to be in 2022 and 2023.

Oh sorry, but yeah, he did suck.

His first two years in Atlanta were like "hey, look at this promising young LB learning the ropes" and then his 3rd and 4th years he ran around like a lost puppy on the field. Dozens of "what the heck is Campbell doing" film review videos dotted YouTube (you, in fact, posted two of them when we signed him).

Atlanta was glad to get rid of him. Arizona had no interest in keeping him. Maybe he was a wee bit better there, but I dunno; I really never looked.

Yep, I recall those. But there were also moments that showed what we see. He for sure wasn't this level. But he was still good enough to be on a team and did some good things. So I won't go as far as to say he sucked, I'll go with average to below average.

Regardless, I think teams will overlook what he did in the past and look at this year, and he's going to get some interest and will sign a nice deal someplace.

He'll definitely have interest. I just don't think a 1-year resurgence for an ILB is going to get a top-of-the-market deal. Then again, Demario Davis was in a similar situation a few years back and provides evidence for a counterexample.

Regardless, I always loved him as a prospect; I'm super glad we got him; and I'm super glad Barry's track record for getting better play out of ILBs than anyone else does with the same players is coming to fruition like gangbusters. Even as the person who replied to this news with "Ok, I know this sounds silly, but I have been wanting this guy for YEARS" I have been pleasantly surprised that it's going this well.

Great to hear some positive news out of Titletown. After all we're only 7 and 1. Let's live for this season first.

agreed but we have a lot of players to resign, and he'll get offers that will be hard to match.

it's a whole new ball game now, ILB's with range but still stout enough against the run are premium, so much more up tempo short passing now compared to just a few years back that Campbell will get paid, hopefully we can resign him, but I have my doubts. ;)

As I have said before...there is a good chance we will NOT be able to afford De'Vondre next year. I understand this and accept it.

However, we should build a statue for him if because of him the FO has their eyes open to the importance of a high quality Inside Linebacker. Obviously, the FO was not aware before Campbell, because of Campbell (hopefully) the blind have been given sight. Hallelujah.

Campbells contributions on the field have been miraculous, may his influence even after he leaves be eternal.

Amen.

They signed a cast off street free agent the day before training camp and got this high level of play from him and you think it's going to "open their eyes" to the importance of the position?

How is what they invested in Campbell a bigger investment than the 3rd round picks we've been bringing in? This one paid off. The others haven't. But the investment level that brought around high-level ILB play did not change in any tangible way. So if anything, Campbell proves that you can find a capable guy to give you high level play without spending a boatload of money or drafting a guy in the 1st (especially since Campbell was, himself, a 4th round pick)

Two ways of looking at it.

The way YoHoChecko is. They don't value ILB, they got lucky, and still don't care and won't place additional value on ILB.

The way Drj820 is. They don't value ILB, they got lucky, but based on Campbell's impact will change their value in the future.

We'll see.

Yes.

They have now seen how much harder it is to play defense without high quality ILB play.
They got lucky that we have high level ILB play this year.

May they go forth knowing it is essential to secure high level ILB instead of relying on luck for it.

I think going forward they may realize it is a position that they must get right in order to succeed on defense.

For the record, I am falling in between the two extreme viewpoints. I think this has to open some eyes, but once it comes time to start writing checks, I am not exactly sure how far those eyes are open.
