I would agree with you Pugger that the GM has something to do with the obtainment of players.

Sounds like the Rams were also able to create cap magic in order to offer him a creative package. That rule that they used, that we Apprently can’t use...seems like complete BS to me. Should be same cap manipulation rules for all 32 teams.

not really, he makes the decision to, but Russ Ball draws up the paper work, actually though Pugger that clip deals with coaching, and McVay selling Odell on the pass schemes he'll be featured in, the idea is that Lafluer didn't do that, basically it's just gossip, and it's doubtful anyone spreading this news actually knows what McVay said, or if he said anything.

the Rams it seems wanted to deal for Beckham prior to his being traded to Cleveland cept they didn't want to pay what Cleveland did to get him, now they get him for peanuts.

It is sarcasm.

Definitely seeing more and more of a divide on the forum of people's anger coming out based on anger, agendas, misinformation, etc. towards certain viewpoints of the team.

Great post yoop. Yeah at first it looked like a coaching thing, but with the contract numbers now out, also looks like the Rams were willing to put their money where their mouth was.

It's just that the mouth of LA is higher than the mouth of GB. We literally couldn't do that deal.

All that sarcasm would make one think a group of people have shown unreasonable anger that we didn’t sign Odell. All responses have seemed very fair minded too me.

They actually have been. I've been impressed.

My challenge now is to see reactions after we lose a game or are seeing the Rams/Beckham do well in January, etc.

Just like last year, everyone at the time understood that Antonio Brown chose TB over GB even though we reached out first, but then suddenly everone forgets about that and pulls up "we shoulda got Brown" when it helps an argument of saying Gute doesn't go all in for the Packers, etc.

Gotcha. I guess I am less worried about predicting future anger and was just curious about the sarcasm in the present. But if we are already playing defense against future comments then It makes sense

No. It's not predicting future anger. It's using past history.

I mean sh*t. Look at how much even THIS year we have seen posts of "the Packers aren't truly going all in and being bad at recruiting players when the Packers have brought in more players and won more of these "recruiting" battles than any other team in the league.

And the best part is, a majority of have been winning moves!

Oh so If it’s not about the future, it’s about rehashing old comments and bringing the hostility of yesterday into present day commentary. Gotcha.

thing is we where behind on getting Odell right from the start, he has a home in LA, and it's where he wants to live, plus when you add in the extra exposure of the big city atmosphere, little more Money, and we had a up hill battle to sign him, another point is that the Rams may have said, keep your nose clean and we'll do our best to resign you to a longer deal next year, we probably couldn't offer that either.

saying all this, I think Odell chose poorly, he'd be our #2 guy in a matter of just a couple games, and we are in just as good of shape as a team to win the SB specially so with his addition, which could have raised his value on the open market.

but then he knows all this, so me thinks he wants to retire as a LA Ram in 3 or 4 years.

go pak go You hit the nail on the head. Thank you! 100% sarcasm with a dash of light hearted trolling. I am proud that the board didn't freak out as a whole. Only one nonsensical post that I saw and it wasn't even in this thread! My plan worked! ;) Looks like once again the Packers were being used to jack up a players free agent salary.

The plain fact is that the Packers got outbid because they don't have the cap room to do something like this. They simply could not match this.

Whether the Packers make the playoffs and how far they go in the playoffs is up to the players they now have and the injury situation and coaching and motivation. There will be no player coming into the team unless it is someone no other team wants.

I wouldn't go that far. I think and believe Bekcham would have really liked to play for us.

We just ultimately couldn't compete in bigger number contracts. Now even if Beckham doesn't realize that contract, there is something to be said for certain people that bigger numbers always mean better. Even if that bigger number is fake.

Like it blows my mind right now when I am trying to "advise" my wife's co-residents as they are in the negotiating process of dentist contracts. Pretty standard language for specialized healthcare provider contracts (at private practices) is you have a minimum salary and then a % of production/collections. Well if you perform at a normal level, the number to worry is the % of comp based on production rather than the minimum because your production will far out weigh the minimum salary. But people don't see that % of production number with a $ sign on it. They see the minimum with a $ sign and they just can't get beyond that number in the negotiation process. So they end up taking offers that will honestly be worse for them, based on a fake number. I think NFL players do it all the time too. They get wrapped up in the fake numbers.

And that was just his ultimate pull. Plus, he probably saw the Rams "efforts" as showing that the Rams had a higher priority for him and would use him more than GB who has a reputation of everyone taking a significant back seat if your name is not Davante Adams and/or Aaron Jones in this offense.

BS, APB was right, you said what you said to shame anyone that thought the FO was wrong to not go all out to get him, just own it and ....

we have a track record up until this year ( still do sense we had hardly any competition to sign guys like Campbell, Mercilus, or Smith) of signing big name UFA , in fact adding Beckham to the list we are about 0 and half dozen.

I think we had interest, but like you said didn't have the room to make more than a modest offer. What I don't think is that we were ever his top priority. I think that was the part that was used to generate more interest.

we first offered the minimum, no one knows whether we upped it or not, but we have 5 mil in the coffers, so I'd expect we might have.

when people use money as a reason for us not signing Beckham it's to defend this FO for not getting it done, but then imo his signing with LA had really nothing to do with chump change money that he was given.

I could get on board with that.

If we were his top priority, it would be pretty easy to work out a deal. Because you would into the negotiations with a clearer head and understand financial and opportunity benefits the Packers offer are not far apart from what LA offers.
