Here's Johnny!! Bye week Wk13

Post by salmar80 »

No game this week, so instead of the usual, I'd like a discussion about your favorite Johnnys, the players who have most exceeded your expectations this season. With the injury situation, there are MANY.

Which players on the Packer roster deserve credit for beating the odds? Did you predict a pick right? Did you think "yaah, Campbell will be a Pro-Bowl level guy"?

Oh, BTW, this guy, NCF had zero wins two weeks ago. Now he has two and shares the lead. Rasuuuuuuul! Congrats!

I mean there are a lot of Here's Johnny winners this year that would be considered. We are 9-3 largely because of the Here's Johnny boys rather than because of our stars like we experienced last year.

Offense - Yosh Nijman, EQSB, AJ Dillon.

Defense - D'Vondre Campbell, Eric Stokes, Rasul Douglas, Krys Barnes, Dean Lowry, Tyler Lancaster, TJ Slayton, Preston Smith, Rashan Gary, and Darnell Savage is so freaking close to being an absolute break out star.

Special Teams - Bojo, EQSB

It's pretty evident our defense is playing like a cohesive unit when you have the type of volume of producers that the Packers have.

Campbell is the obvious answer.

I was just thinking the other day, though, I was probably most wrong about Lowry in our "rank the roster" exercises. I thought he was a scrub who could neither pass-rush nor run-stop adequately. I did say that maybe he would look better in Barry's 1-gap scheme, but then I greatly doubted it.

No, he has played good football. Hats off to him. :aok:

Both Gutey and LaFleur should get some mentions. The former for finding some true gold nuggets for the price of fool's gold, and the latter for leading a steady ship through off-season drama and rough injury weathers in-season to a great record.

I wonder if there are any wrinkles in store after The Bye. My 2021 Here's Johnny was Dominique Dafney all offseason. I started out nicely, but then got hurt and is pretty much an afterthought right now. I really envisioned a lot more of the Danny Vitale stuff that this offense used in 2019. Randall Cobb's production has made it difficult to go away from 3WR sets, though.

Vernon Scott is another one. Now that we have seen all we need to see from Henry Black, will they give Scott a shot from scrimmage? Also might be some ability to use either Rasul Douglas or even Chandon Sullivan in that role if Jaire comes back.

In terms of surprises, yeah, Campbell, obviously, but I think the Lancaster/Lowry/Slaton combo has been most surprising. They haven't even been good, but I think many felt like it was asking too much of that group to just not suck. They haven't. Not even close. It's helped to transform the defense.

Oh, our DC!!!

WHAT a wonderful job!

He allowed Campbell to be all he can be, which is a featured star, and otherwise has led a defense that actually can win games for us.

If you could pick a coach, Berry would easily run away with it. Not many gave him a shot when they heard he was the hire, including me. Hope this just isn't a new guy aberration. Give credit where credit is due. Still a bit streaky but all in all, a fine job.

My top 3 are Campbell, Douglas and Nijman. They are the spirit of Here's Johnny. Two guys who no one wanted to keep and a guy slowly improving on the practice squad who gives us quality minutes and hope for the future.

I agree with these 3. Honorable mention to Dillon, Runyan, Myers, TJ

If I had to pick 1, it would be R. Douglas

This season seems to mirror 2010 with all the injuries. And like that year we keep finding guys who not only can come in and play but are beating the guys they are replacing. Douglas has been amazing. Our DC is also showing enough aggressive instincts to rattle Os and give players a chance to succeed even if put into bad situations. Z, Alexander, and Bak should really push over the top.

Yeah, last season reminded me of 2015 (I was hoping it would not have ended the same way), this season reminds me of 2010 (man do I hope it ends the same way).
