maybe he was, not prepared to dispute that. I just find it interesting that he is still grading extremely high, while most of us can see that his run defense has been low quality and declining. Makes me question the validity of the grades, then wonder if they just allow a pressure or sack to cover a multitude of sins on plays that dont include a pressure or sack.
I Do Not Hate Matt Lafleur
Gary has 40 plus tackles, Gary isn't playing bad, just not as well as some of us expect from him, and prior to several games back teams didn't attack our edge as they have lately, QB's didn't beat the pass rush with there legs, even the guys that run well didn't attempt it much, call it luck, cause our OLB's have had there ears pinned back and didn't care about edge contain the whole season thats why they are so successful exploiting it now.
It comes down to priority's, you either rush the QB, or you play contain, if you want pressure in a 2.5 count you simply can't do both, I know you'll disagree, and I agree there may be a happy medium, but then we should not expect the pressure totals we've been having from Smitty and Gary, that imho is not possible.
also imo some of our edge problems lay at the feet of our ILB's, Safety's and corners, the deal with off coverage is so you can look at the QB and play as it develops, if run then you have to get up there and help out, and of course actually tackle versus waving a arm at the guy.

I forgot if it was the Browns game or the week before but in the second half there were 3 consecutive Packer drives that resulted in 1 first down and 3 punts.
I know it is fashionable to blame the D for the last 2 close games. But this is not the D of Fritz Shurmer and we don't have Reggie White in his prime. You cannot expect any D, except perhaps the Bears at their best or that Shurmer D to not collapse when the O can't stay on the field.
