There it is. I will give him betting odds to get that job. I know Polian and Ron Wolf are tight.

And have to think he'd poach some people from the Packers. He knows that job #1 in Chicago is to beat the Packers.

seems reasonable, but I'm not so sure how many would be poachable or if they'd even consider jumping in with young Wolf. Eliot did not get the promotion he wanted in GB, nor did he do well on the various GM interviews over the years, including CLE and SF. The comments that came back were that he was too blunt and too cocky, kind of living off his Dad's name while not having those leadership chops himself. Several teams wanted Wolf Jr in an advisory role, ( including GB) but not as the GM. Sort of like a coordinator who isn't quite HC material
I wouldn't call it bad blood, but I don't believe the current GB front office thinks that highly of Eliot as a GM and the guys on Gute's staff are close friends & loyalists who have been hired and then promoted internally. ( Milt Hendrickson, Jon-Eric Sullivan, John Wojechiechowski, Sam Seale)

I could see Jon-Eric following him. They started with the Packers around the same time and are around the same age and at least in 2005 were pretty good buddies. Just because some guys stayed when Gutey was hired doesn’t mean they’re “loyalists,” as much as just making the best career move at the time.
I was thinking more of poaching coaches, but he certainly could poach some front office, like Yoho mentioned.BSA wrote: ↑12 Jan 2022 11:02seems reasonable, but I'm not so sure how many would be poachable or if they'd even consider jumping in with young Wolf. Have to remember how young he is still. Wolf doesn't turn 40 until March. I'm sure the last few years in New England has helped a lot with things he may not have been great at a few years back.

Perhaps. But I wonder why would he make a lateral move to a crappier franchise with notoriously tightwad owners ?
I'm curious what would be better about being Eliots' right hand man vs Gutes' right hand man ?
If Jon-Eric aspires to a GM role, the successful Packers are a vastly better launching pad than dismal chicago.
And yes, paco, I suspect Eliot has grown and matured in many ways - but he's also 0-3 in GM interviews, coming up short in GB, SF and CLE. Its possible that's just a part of his personality & demeanor and those are hard to change- especially under the immense pressure of a front office job.
Wolf Jr definitely has an eye for talent, you hear that from many sources- but maybe he's just not GM material. That being said, sometimes the HC picks the GM he wants to work with ( Shanahan-Lynch, Carroll-Schneider) and maybe Eliot gets a shot in one of those arrangements.

On the team's website he's listed as "co-director," so I imagine getting that title solo would be a step up in both title and his own feeling of significance. I'm not saying he would definitely go; I was just looking to see who was still around from Eliot's days and I was at the 2005 combine with the team and I remembered them being friends and hanging around a bunch. The "co" made me think both that the team could cope with his loss and that he might want to step out into a more autonomous role.BSA wrote: ↑12 Jan 2022 12:30Perhaps. He can come off as a little arrogant or know-it-all-y. I imagine that plays through in interviews. He definitely was more aggressive than TT and more in line with his father and John Dorsey's outlook on team building than TT's, while Gutey seems more in between those poles.BSA wrote: ↑12 Jan 2022 12:30And yes, paco, I suspect Eliot has grown and matured in many ways - but he's also 0-3 in GM interviews, coming up short in GB, SF and CLE. 0-3 doesn't mean much. You have way more candidates than you have jobs available. Not getting hired isn't always about you. Sometimes they go another way. We can't know exactly how well someone does. We get reports and we've seen how accurate some reports are.BSA wrote: ↑12 Jan 2022 12:30Perhaps. And you can just toss out anything in Cleveland, because we've seen how that organization is run. Maybe they'd be better had they hired him.
Wolf is far enough removed from the Packers where I really don't care anymore. Hope he gets the Bears job. Should make for some fun interviews and shenanigans.

Anyone see Rodgers' comments on Joe Judge? Supposedly Judge was fired a couple hours after Rodgers made them, maybe they were the catalyst

“You know what would make me lose my mind almost as much as that?” Rodgers said. “Third-and-9 on the -5, let’s go in goal-line personnel and run a quarterback sneak.”
McAfee asked Rodgers if he would call an audible on that play.
“Call that one in Matt [LaFleur], and let’s see what happens,” Rodgers laughed.
He should be fired for that play. That was the dumbest play I ever saw. Matter of fact, I'm sure just watching it lowered my football IQ by 5 points.texas wrote: ↑13 Jan 2022 00:36https://nypost.com/2022/01/11/aaron-rod ... ack-sneak/YoHoChecko wrote: ↑12 Jan 2022 22:49Didn’t see it! That exchange was hilarious. Rodgers going off about the rumor of him boycotting the SB was pretty good too. The rumor was absolutely ridiculous. I know Cowherd tried to reinforce it as well, but didn't watch that as I refuse to watch anything he puts out.

Ha, thanks! I was on my way to bed so normally would have looked it up myself, but this worked exactly as I planned in that I got to wake up, log into the site, and get to see Rodgers dragging Judgetexas wrote: ↑13 Jan 2022 00:36https://nypost.com/2022/01/11/aaron-rod ... ack-sneak/YoHoChecko wrote: ↑12 Jan 2022 22:49Didn’t see it! Dang, lots of openings this year! Hackett is for sure going to get a job somewhere.
BTW, ESPN has a couple insiders comment on coaching vacancies around the league and what the status is and what they're hearing. For most, it's too early to say much, but it sounds like there's some buzz.
For the Broncos, they're hearing major Dan Quinn vibes as the early favorite.
Giants are hiring GM first so may miss out on a round of coaching hires
Bears are looking for GM and HC concurrently, so it's tough to know for sure, but they're hearing strong lean toward Bills DC (and former Vikings coach; and former '85 Bears player) Leslie Frazier, with Flores and Bowles in the mix--so defensive-minded seems to be the lean.
Dolphins it seems like more a vibe than insider info, but strong consideration of Bills OC Brian Daboll (who coached Tua in college) and 49ers OC Mike McDaniel. Someone who won't rock the personnel boat and works well with the GM seems to be a priority, as they did not have that with Flores
The Jaguars seem to be in a play-it-safe mode looking strongly at retreads who had mediocre teams in cities where their franchises have been long-term failures like Jim Caldwell and Bill O'Brien, so maybe Leftwich and Hackett aren't strong candidates.
The Vikings haven't started anything yet but are assumed to be looking for more of a players' coach who will relate to the younger team better and not be such a stick in the mud; Eric Kendricks said the franchise was "fear based" and they might look to turn that around.
Vegas may stick with the interim guy if they can't lure Jim Harbaugh, but the insiders are hearing the Jim Harbaugh desire is real, whether it's realistic or not

I've seen most of this as well. Other bits I've heard are that Flores is the betting favorite for the Giants and the Bears want Harbaugh. O'Brien appears to be the favorite in Jax.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑13 Jan 2022 14:34Dang, lots of openings this year! Hackett is for sure going to get a job somewhere.

I'm betting Hackett & Getsy's best shots are Denver or Chicago (if they can't lure Harbaugh). Minnesota and Houston could be interesting options as we haven't heard much about candidates for them yet.

Is 8 normal? I always considered 5-6 normal; 8 seems high. What's the track record on this. I feel like I remember it being 7 the year we hired MLF, and that felt high.
