Love hearing your perspective on the good ole days Ringo. Hopefully one day I can shake your hand and hear a story in real life!
I've got some stories that can't be printed. :hide:
Bring it to Lambeau Drj.....I've got Green package tickets. Just let me know what game and I'll try to make it happen. The only requirement is we must visit with Bogey before kickoff.

Oren Burks is probably the most disappointed draft pick of Gute that just truly never worked out.

I was very excited for him pre draft as a Day 3 pick. The intelligence. The versatility. The speed. Then when we traded up for him, I was convinced he was going to be a monster.

Then his first preseason action and he was everywhere.

I was always shocked he just could never get it. I'd be surprised honestly if he lasts the entire 2022 on an NFL roster.

It's a shame he got injured early into his rookie season. I feel like that really screws with the development of young guys.

Also hated that we kept playing Antonio Morrison over him in his rookie year when our playoffs
odds were hopelessly slim, and then even after we were eliminated from getting in entirely. And again the next season. We drafted Burks knowing he was raw and needed experience at the position, you get that through reps and live action. They should have been playing him as much as they reasonably could (especially when the games were meaningless).

Yeah I think after 4 years the whole "injured for a 6 weeks his rookie year" excuse is now just a bad excuse.

If he was ever going to turn out to something, we would have seen it by now. He looked pretty awesome this preseason too. Granted this was his best year, but he was just clearly steps behind.

At least Summers was a 7th rounder. Not high expectations for him. A 3rd, you expect to get some solid play and a 2nd contract.

I disagree Ringo.

I can't speak for the early Holmgren years, but the early MLF era is the most fun I have had since the early McCarthy era.
Let's see what the Old Guys (and Ladies) Don't Rule think about this. The excitement that Reggie brought was tremendous back then. Then Favre blew the doors off. It was basically Camelot V2. The defensive line kept getting better too.
Yes, this old lady remembers when we got Reggie. That was HUGE news back then because for over 20 years we were the Siberia of the NFL. Coaches used to threaten their players that weren't performing to shape up or they'll ship them up to us. There were more than a few players who decided to come to GB just to play with Reggie and Favre. I just hope we don't return to Siberia after Rodgers is gone and is the main reason why I'm in no rush to trade him away, especially if Love isn't the answer. HOF QBs don't' grow on trees so if you have one of his caliber you try to hang onto him for as long as you can. I can hear some of you say "but he stinks in the post season". I will come back with "we will struggle get to the playoffs without him".

In his case, it is not just the injury but not giving him reps when there was no reason not to do so. He was very new to the position, a position where you need to develop instincts. The injury was a setback for sure but I do wonder if things would have been different if he gave him more live action experience at the end of his first season when we were not playing for anything anyway.

So it is not just using injury as an excuse, but them not having a plan for him. Burks also looked oddly competent for the first time in a while this year, too. LB-friendly scheme, true, but... one wonders how he would have looked if we had given him more reps/xp coming into this season.

That said, I disagree that being injured early in the rookie year is a bad excuse. I am of the opinion that most young players can succeed in the pros if they go to the right situation for their talent, but for those that still need to get the mental part of the game down like Burks did and lots of QBs do, development is a fragile thing that if you don't get right, they are pretty irreversibly damaged.

Same here. I do think the injuries, early on, really slowed his progress and maybe caused some confidence issues. Injuries happen, though, and Oren Burks, for me, will always be the classic tail of how even super high IQ intelligence doesn't mean smart football player. The instincts just never showed and I have really never seen a more athletic, yet cement-footed LB in all my years of watching football.

This is why this old guy did a 180 on Rodgers. Keep Aaron. Give Aaron another shot.

it’s easy to blame the coach, because when you finish 32 of 32...the buck stops with you, as the coach.

Speaking of the ST coach, why does he still possess keys to the building?

Yes, we all know he should be fired, but bringing this up daily is not necessary. It will happen when it happens and if it doesn't you can bitch until your heart is content.
