From Lambeau to Lombardi, Holmgren, McCarthy and LaFleur and from Starr to Favre, Rodgers and now Jordan Love we’re talking Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers football. This Packers Forum is the place to talk NFL football and everything Packers. So, pull up a keyboard, make yourself at home and let’s talk some Packers football.
It's also worth remembering that dumb luck plays a massive part in who wins the SB.
The NFL likes to think it's all based on merit and the winners get hailed as geniuses who took the right path and their philosophy gets copied and praised.
In reality a few different bounces of an egg shaped ball often is the difference between canonisation and getting fired.
The Packers have a path to the playoffs. And a QB who can give us a shot in the playoffs for two more years. That's all most teams can ever really hope for.
In two years, maybe they extend Rodgers, maybe they transition to Love, maybe they tear it all down. But it keeps the window open while giving them time to decide the future.
I used to really believe in this theory of "not about the quality but instead the quantity of the roll"
We basically had 8 - 10 rolls of the die to roll a 6. And out of all those rolls....we never rolled a 6.
It gets disheartening for sure. But maybe this is the year.

Yep. The Bills got to 4 Superbowls in a row and lost them all. There's no guarantees.
They are just being funny and saying that not getting to the Super Bowl is the same as losing it.
It's not even trying to be funny.
The whole thing started with a high level comment of Rodgers won the SB when he had Woodson and Matthew and Favre won the SB when he had White and Howard as like that was the reason those guys found success. Because they had support.
Yet if you look at other great Packers teams that didn't win the SB...the QB had other great supporting cast members. All Pro's. 2011, 2014, 2019, 2020 and 2021 were loaded with them.
Not making the SB so you can lose the SB is irrelevant. That's just splitting hairs.
Rodgers had the org by the ba***. The entire FO was not confident in life without him. Lafleur probably wasnt either. Anybody can win 13 games with an MVP at QB and the personnel we have on Defense.
At this point, id like to see some variations to the roster as opposed to just trotting the same ole thing out there. As i mentioned earlier, I would start to gain those variations by trading Adams and cutting the 3 old geezers. Beyond that, this whole thing is really on Lafleur. He has the regular season process down enough to be very successful. However, his gameplans have been tight in the playoffs. We have hardly seen any wrinkles, motions, tricks, ANYTHING to provide any sparks. In addition, hes made goofy personnel moves that overthink the situation like he did on the OL this year. He also has been bad with in game management like kicking FGs on 4th and 8 and giving the ball back to Brady. 4th and 8 odds...low....giving the ball back to Brady with 2 minutes left with Mike Pettine as DC, suicide.
Its Lacoach that needs to grow. Great coaches win SBs. Is Lacoach a great coach? The jury is out...
IMO - The big push to get Rodgers to come back came from Mark Murphy. He is 66 and the mandatory retirement age for him is 70.
Not enough time to win a SB with Love or another QB. Or he would be cutting it close.
Murphy wants another SB as part of his legacy….regardless of the train wreck he leaves behind.
It could also be because Love isn't ready for prime time and Packers management are not ready to toss aside a HOF QB just yet and start all over. That day will come soon enough.

Good point. Yes, Rodgers will leave someday. And the Packers will get no compensation for him while they’re up to their necks in dead cap money. The Packers FO office just blew a big opportunity to keep the Packer’s franchise in good shape for the post Rodgers era.

You guys are hitting on the truth. Its about Love. Love is a bum. The coaches and FO know Love is a bum. There is a reason he was still available later in RD 1. If Love looked remotely capable the org would have had SOME power in the Rodgers negotiation. They could have offered Rodgers a more sane deal and told him to take it or leave it. If he wanted to leave it, they would have happily traded him for 3 1s and gone forward with a competent QB in Love. This was not possible though because Love sucks. The future is being mortgaged because Gute whiffed on his QB project.
Favre would have had all the power and the Packers would have paid him and begged him back if there was no Rodgers lurking behind the curtain. In this case, there was nothing to give the FO any leverage lurking behind the curtain because the team knew they couldnt go forward with Love the bum in year 3. Bust.

I believe they made a huge mistake that will cost them for years to come. How many players have to cut to keep Rodgers and Adams? You all feel good about Smith being cut? I’m sure you don’t.

i mean sadly for Smith thats kind of just what happens when you miss 95% of the 2021 season. The guy who was available opposite you for most of the season gets the nod. Not convinved we bring back someone with a shaky back even if Rodgers left.
