Pick 22: The Packers Are On the Clock

Post by go pak go »

I think it could be fun to have a poll and discussion of us being on the clock, have a simulation of players available, and see who the board would choose.

Without futher ado:

It is Pick 22 - The Green Bay Packers are on the Clock. Yoop and DrJ is flipping out because Olave went 21st to the Patriots. Who would you choose?

Yoop trades up to slot 13 and takes Wilson

I think of the top 4 or 5 receivers Burks might still be there, and he gives us a ready to play WR, think he's a good fit in MLF's schemes, so he's my pick

I went Burks.

Strong consideration for Wyatt here. Ojabo, gets some thought, as well. I'd like to have the guts to take the best value and wait until 28 to take Burks, but if it's me, sitting there with Wilson, Williams, and Olave off the board.... I have to take WR.

Though I guess with London and Dotson on the board, it means we could probably wait, but I just don't have the guts to risk it.

Yeah, Burks for me. I was on team Wyatt until this morning when I realized he was 24.

If people want "immediate impact" than drafting a guy like Wyatt is a good move because he will probably be that "high floor - lower ceiling" guy. He will likely contribute more in this 2 year window than most anyone else.

thats what might help us be able to take him at slot 28, I've had a crush on Wyatt a long time, our pass rush would be hell on QB's with Smith, Wyatt, Clark, and Gary

Nice, Bit of toughy. I'd say right now I am probably here:

Tier 1

Tier 2
Treylon Burks - WR - Kind of at the top due to process of elimination, fewest warts if you will. I think he is the best of this bunch, but don't just love him as a lock at 22 or anything. I go back and forth between he is a limited athlete and his game speed is very good. Even with the slow speed and bad 3 cone, average at best jumping, not a good trifecta. Bigger than he looks, long arms, good hand size. I dunno.
Drake London - WR - I think this would be a very safe pick, I think he is going to be an above average to good starting receiver, yet I would question the diversity and speed of our WR's. Good hands, good contested catcher, not sure if he creates the separation we really need for Aaron to trust him too early. Bit too much Lazard in him, not a bad thing, but limiting what we can run with two oversized less athletic, no top end speed, WR's. I liked him a lot in fall then fell off, warming back up to him quite a bit.

Tier 3
Daxton Hill - S - Kind of hate taking a safety at 22, but we do need one here and actually could get a lot of PT this year as slot/3rd safety.
David Ojabo - Edge - Pure investment pick, might get him December January at minimal impact, but has everything you want at edge. See note below regarding achilles injuries.
Zion Johnson - OG - Don't like his size, already gunna be 23 this year, I don't quite get all the love (not sure if much outside of Bukowski), although great athlete.
Kenyon Green - OG - Maybe 2nd round, just limited upside at 22, not an impressive athlete

Tier 4
Andrew Booth - CB - I like Booth, but kind of another perimeter only CB,
Nakobe Dean - ILB - Just positional need, not crazy about him, small, I got him behind Lloyd and Chanel
Devonte Wyatt - DT - Would love him early 2nd-ish, just not a 1st round prospect, IMO
Jahan Dotson - WR - Hate the value at 22, not the highest ceiling you'd want at 22.

Although postoperative performance was worse in running backs and linebackers (vs. pre-injury), there was no difference in postoperative performance or number of games played for any position (with the exception of linebackers) compared to rigorously matched control players in the league

I know he's not int he poll and probably will not be there, but it would be tough to pass on Jordan Davis if he's there at 22 for me. I know we need a penetrator, but I think both Jordan Davis and Travis Jones have the movement ability to impact the pass game despite their size penciling them in as NT-types.

Jones is someone I'd consider at 28, primarily.

But it depends, obviously, on how a lot of things are falling.

And I don't want to sidetrack the thread with guys not in the poll, necessarily, but I did want to put out there that I'm into the big guys with movement skills, not just the pure 3-techs we're craving.

I want it all. I want immediate impact but I also want the high ceiling big swings in Round 1.

I agree. I wouldn't pass on him. He would be a pretty easy pick for me at 22.

Yup. The poll is with the assumption that Jordan Davis was drafted in the top 15.

I just don't see how a team will pass up on a 340 DT who is 22 years old and has a RAS of 10. I think there is risk with Davis. He will not be a full time player (I think he only played like 900 snaps at Georgia?), but he too would be my selection if he lasted to 22.

I just think Georgia had way way too many elite front 7 prospects to use playing time as a knock on anyone. They took Jordan Davis off the field because they liked to move Trayvon Walker inside and Tindall as a blitzer/space player. Walker is 270 pounds and ran in the 4.5s, and likely to be a top ten pick; so yeah, he's a better interior pass rusher in the college game than Jordan Davis. Channing Tindall never started a game and is likely to be drafted int he 3rd or 4th round.

Properly maximizing your stacked personnel groupings at the college level with a 90-player roster and probably 9 players on their 2021 roster who play in the front 7 and will eventually be top-100 picks in the NFL Draft. Jeremiah Johnson transferred from Georgia to Florida St because he was used as a sub-package EDGE and not set loose to rush the QB down in and down out (thus not much production), went to Florida St and broke out with a ton of sacks and is now a top-20 player.

My personal choice would be a WR, such as Burks. I'm willing to wait until 28 for that if there is a guy or two still available.

But Guty, ya know, wants to spend his first round picks on the most ATHLETIC players, irregardless of position. Isn't there a real trend about that? So, of those, which 3 have the highest athletic scores? I'll pick one of those.

:-)

Also, I love Nakobe Dean but didn't realize quite how small he is, and am spooked by his lack of workouts, seemingly by choice. He has a personal pro day planned, but until I see it, I can't consider him higher than 28 even though I had a mid-season mock where I took him top 10, haha.

I like the idea of him, but I really don't love him. I think it'll be a moot point cause he'll be gone.

I'd feel better with Wyatt or Winfrey early 2nd round.

I was disappointed with Winfrey's size, <6'4", only 290, but he did have some really long arms. Just have seen like 6'5" 300 forever on him, just not his size.

I feel like Demarvin Leal would be more likely to be an edge for us, honestly.

I'm having a lot of trouble deciding what to make of both Winfree and Leal. Winfree tore up the post-season circuit, but his film reviews are very up-and-down; inconsistent effort and maddening inconsistency in his technique. Leal was primed to breakout and be a top 15 type of player and then just... didn't? Took a step back, even. What do you do with prospects who CAN do it and SHOW they can do it, but more often than not didn't do it?

Yeah. I just can't get myself excited over Winfrey or Leal unless it's like Rd 3. There just isn't anything that excites me about them.

I think the only DTs I am ready to draft in Rd 1 and Rd2 are Davis, Wyatt, Jones and Mathias with Wyatt and Davis being Rd 1 guys.
