Olave will storm the league, instantly turn the Packers into SB favorites, never mind that he'd rather run out of bounds then take on a defender, he does have great positional ability to not only catch a pass, but also to stand in the way of a defender attempting a tackle, if we want this stud muffin WR we'll have to trade up in front of the Saints to get him
Watch, we'll draft Olave, Packa Nation will hound us for days with " I told you dummys we'd do this"
I'am guilty of some of the same stuff, I get tunnel vision on a player and have trouble backing myself off

I would be shocked if Olave has less than 750 yards as a rookie.
I'd also be shocked if he ever has a season with more than 1,200 yards, and not many of those.

I'm not gonna lie.
If the goal of this draft is following the lines of DrJ where we need immediate impact above anything else because this is the season we are all in...I think Olave is probably our most realistic shot at achieving what a lot of Packers fans want. Immediate impact and help from the draft at the WR position to replace our empty cupboard.
If you want a long term #1....I don't think Olave is the guy. I think he could grow into a feature #2.
That's kind of been my point all offseason. I don't see a WR in this draft that really provides what we want. There is going to have to be some give and take and is a big reason why I haven't been in love with spending top resource at the position.

imo.
not a very good fit for us, 30% of our offense are either stacked sets, RPO, or some sort of play action, where receivers have to block, and be physical, thats not who Olave is, we would be better suited with a LOndon or Burks, in fact I think we are going to take one of those two, pair either up with a guy like Watkins or even Moore or Dotson and our receiver position is good for years.
I didnt really know much about the draft when I was saying we have to secure the guy we want. I thought surely that guy would not be a bonified bum. Surely there was 1 or 2 locks in a draft I had heard was "very deep everywhere but QB."
So my stance was to not let those 1 or 2 slip away just because we are back at 22. That we have the ammo to go get who we want.
But now it seems they all may suck. They all may be bums. The org allowed the position to be in total shambles at the moment. Drafting Love instead of a potential WR who could now be ready to take over as WR1 has put us in a lot of hurt (at the moment). I know people dont like to say it, but using those resources (plus a 4th round pick) on Love instead of grabbing a guy we could use, certainly came with opportunity costs.
Anyways, if every WR in this draft would be 2nd or 3rd rounders in most other drafts, maybe we should just draft a safety, and DLmen, maybe an edge, maybe Nakobi with our first few picks and plan on winning games by not giving up more than 10 points per game.
The current state of the WR crew is gonna allow 8 in the box to stop the run. Maybe the 50m per man can toss the ball up and go run under it and catch it himself. Maybe all in on D is the path that has been given to us.

True locks do not exist.
First 2 WRs taken in 2020 have yet to hit 900+ yards in a season. 3rd hit 900+ each year. 4th hasn't even hit 400. 5th is so far the best in class with 1400+ in both seasons. 6th hasn't gone over 900 in a season.
No matter how confident anyone is in "their guy," he may not turn out to be "the guy."

Naah, it's a good year to be needing WRs. Unfortunately there aren't any surefire ready-to-start, top 5 pick -talent guys. But how common are those, really?Drj820 wrote: ↑11 Apr 2022 13:23I didnt really know much about the draft when I was saying we have to secure the guy we want. So many promising guys with great upside that we're almost guaranteed to be able draft some.....but we may need to develop them a bit.
And the roster isn't set when draft ends. Signing a vet or trading for one remain options.

Over the last 25 years, receivers drafted in first 16 picks: https://stathead.com/tiny/785vc
49 drafted, just as many or more outright busts as perennial pro bowlers.

My current fever dream is somehow Jordan Davis slides to 22 and we create an absolutely dominant defensive front with him and Kenny, then we trade 28 and one of our seconds to the Seahawks for 40 and 41.
We take Christian Watson at 40 and George Pickens at 41, just to get his competitive fire going that he was our second choice.
Then we take, I dunno, a LB, EDGE, or my choice, OT at 59.
Then Alec Pierce at 92.
First three rounds: addressed the DL and OL and filled the WR room. We let the tireless work ethic, team-first mentality, and locker room presence of two top-RAS guys in Pierce and Watson feed the competitive juices of Pickens as they all compete with each other and develop together and we wind up hitting home runs on at least 2 of them.

none of these WR's are any good, but 5 will be off the board top 20, go figure, the GM's that take these receivers need the frontal lobotomy
IMO one of the main reasons the best college prospects bust or never live up to draft expectations is poor team fit, specially so with skill positions, thats why looking at what a offense does, matters, and since we do so much PA, and short west coast stuff, small receivers that lack physicality just don't seem to fit, I agree the need for speed is obvious, but imo it can't come at the expense of everything else that matters, such as yac and blocking.
I'am back to Burks with our first pick, he checks off more boxes then the others that may be available, and seems a perfect fit for what we do.

if next years draft is supposed to so good (they say this most years, its always the next year thats "so good")
We can always just continue to trade back and go into next years draft with like 4 1s and a ton of mid rounders for this year haha
Sounds crazy but if we arent in a panicked state, might be best.

I don't either, but I'am older, so anything to do with D&D is of less priority to me, I love what the Rams are doing, they seem to too
