Name Your Draft Crush

Post by go pak go »

Each year I like us to put down who our top draft crushes are. We can meld this to "areas" of the draft too. But here is my top five favorite players in this draft.

Caveat, I don't consider anyone who is a top 5/top 10 lock. I try to be somewhat realistic; though deter from that a little if players have "some" chance of falling.

Here we are. My Top Draft Crushes in the 2022 NFL Draft for the Green Bay Packers.

1. Jordan Davis - DT
2. Jermaine Johnson - Edge
3. Jameson Williams - WR
4. Daxton Hill - S
5. Devin Lloyd - ILB
6. Trent McDuffie - CB

Any of the top 3 I would be elated on using a 3rd round pick to trade up and select. Any of the top 6 I would be elated if they were our selection at #22 and later.

As a precautionary pre-cursor, it seems most of my draft crushes end up being Minnesota Vikings (or maybe that was just a 2014 and 2015 thing). But on a more serious note, the team that always seems to select the players I love from Day 1 - Day 3 of the Draft is the Baltimore Ravens. They !@#$ me off every. single. year.

Leo Chanel is probably tops on my list.

Not as many this year, Tyler Smith, Jaquan Brisker and Trent McDuffie are 3 guys I all really like.

Don' think we can justify Chanel or McDuffie with where they will go, but I still like them.

I'd be happy with Smith or Brisker at 28. If we can find a way to get Seattle's 40 and 41, I would kind of be my dream to get both there.

If we get one of Hill, Cine, Brisker, or Pitre I will be elated. I love this safety class. Much moreso than the coveted 2019 safety class because these guys are currently a position of not as much need and yet I keep turning my head to them.

You have sold me on Chenal too. I love the value there if we could get him Day 2.

Jameson Williams - the only big WR who has a turbo boosted motor off the LoS. Potential of a monster.

Drake London - Immediately good with some of the routes AR loves. I don't see a star, but I do see a lot of production.

Jordan Davis - A line of Gary, Davis, Clark and Preston at key moments. Opposing OL better do their squats.

We usually around here wind up with a top-5 list of draft crushes in these threads. And I usually struggle a liiitttle to narrow it down to five, but can do so.

This year? I can't. I just can't.

So I'll do it this way: top 40 draft crushes and the rest

Top 40:
1. Jordan Davis
2. Jameson Williams
3. Dax Hill
4. Christian Watson
5. Tyler Davis

The Rest:
1. Eyioma Uwazurike
2. Jelani Woods
3. JT Woods
4. Tyquan Thornton
5. Dominique Robinson

There are two WR's in this draft class that I'm like, "holy crap" when I watch their tape.

1. Jameson Williams
2. George Pickens

The headcase stuff bothers me. If the tam, having done their research, makes the pick, I'll be stoked to have him. But if we don't pick him, I'd have trouble questioning or complaining about that decision

Oh agreed. But honestly those are the only two when I watch them I'm like, "they are a 1st Round #1 WR"

Now I will probably have to tell myself to like someone else because we will pick them, but my gut told me in 2016 that I liked Kenny Clark the most out of the DT's. I liked Anthony Barr. I liked Erik Kendricks. I liked Brian Burns. I liked Vita Vea, Edmunds, Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson. I liked Justin Jefferson, Denzel Mims and Patrick Queen. I even liked Eric Stokes until you talked me away from him.

I was dead wrong on Denzel Mims, Josh Jackson and Patrick Queen. But otherwise my gut has done decently well when simply watching highlight tape.

And this year the two WRs I'm like, "wow" are Williams and Pickens. And that's why honestly you don't see me talking much about the Rd1 WRs...I just don't see much that I like. I tried to talk myself into a few other guys like Olave and Burks. But I just don't get that same gut feeling.

Jordan Davis even though I dont trust his stamina. My late round under the radar crush is oddly Jack Sanborn.

I'm hoping Pickens in the early rounds and Alec Pierce in the mid-round picks. We get one or the other and I'll be happy. We get both and it'll be like a recent video posted by Ghost_Lombardi.

That and very limited routes and production, limited experience. I think people assume Georgia must run a pro style offense, but they really don’t at all. I think I saw like 75% of Pickens routes were comebacks or goes. That’s a higher rate than Metcalf had.

I think his ceiling is maybe the 2nd highest in this draft. He may take some time. Not sure he’s a guy who’s just gunna walk in a get a K as some people say.

Honestly, this draft class has lots of guys who I'd be elated to get.

Jalen Pitre. Dax Hill is the best of the S's we are looking at for this role, but for some reason I like Pitre the best for it. I mean the guy took LB and EDGE snaps, damn haha. But like all of them: Hill, Cine, Brisker, etc. are BAMFs.

Kenyon Green, fite me. Max Mitchell is also a guy I like a lot. Several mid-round OL look intriguing.

Jordan Davis.
Jelani Woods.
Leo Chanel, despite myself (I have an instinctive urge to resist liking Badgers because our fans go gaga over them, but this guy is a BAMF).

I also like a lot of these tweener/hybrid guys. Logan Hall. Josh Paschal. A few others I'm not thinking of.

WR? Jameson, but I'm convinced he'll be long gone before we can sniff him. Dunno if I'm in "crush" territory with him, but I also like London a lot. 'Not real enamored with any other receivers though. It's a solid and fairly deep class, not an amazing one.

No crush for me this year. Just don't know them well enough. Usually I pick some random guy late that I latch onto. There was a WR a few years ago I was obsessed with. Thought he'd be the next Driver (had similar back story). Don't think he was even drafted.
