From Lambeau to Lombardi, Holmgren, McCarthy and LaFleur and from Starr to Favre, Rodgers and now Jordan Love we’re talking Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers football. This Packers Forum is the place to talk NFL football and everything Packers. So, pull up a keyboard, make yourself at home and let’s talk some Packers football.
Yes, for sure, but the explosion jumps are off the charts, too. A 32" vertical is awesome for a guy that size and the 10'03" broad jump is simply ridiculous. Those measurements have nothing to do with a watch and are as standard as humanly possible.
No one is denying that Davis is a huge athletic freak, the argument is should we jump up to get him or even take him if he slides to us, as a football player he has minimal technical skills and wins by over powering people, which wont be as easy at the pro level, and as with most really big guys will need to rotate in and out often to remain fresh enough to play in the 4th quarter.
can we afford to spend our top pick on this type of player? I would not, specially so considering our needs at WR, OL, edge rusher etc.
Goes back to projection. If you believe what is today is all he will ever be, then the answers to all of your questions are pretty simply no. I tend to believe he can learn to use his athletic gifts to learn to win in new ways. Ways very few, if any, have won before at that size.
well the question I would have is why hasn't he learned some of this by now? simple answer imo is that he hasn't had to, I would also think the Georgia coaches tried to teach him the tech stuff and he simply gave minimal effort simply to get them off his back, I would worry about the same thing happening at this level.
Obviously if we draft him I'll hope I'am wrong, but I really have reservations about that, I believe Jones is the safest pick at DT.

So what is the reason to knock Jordan Davis but love Jeffrey Simmons and say it was the obvious pick in 2021? (hinsight)
Simmons was flash athletic freak ability too. That's what these high end guys are. Gary was high end flash ability. You then hope they come in and you can harness that potential into actual.
We did it with Gary. The Titans did with Simmons. And someone will hope they can do it with Davis.
He is absolutely in my top 3 draft crushes for this draft for us.

Simmons was considered the top DT in that class, he dropped do to injury and slapping around the woman, and from what I've seen he is the best of that class now.
I believe the reports that say they don't have a first round grade on any DT's and that Davis wouldn't go prior to any in that 018 draft class, your falling head over heels on a guy because of his combine numbers.

And Jordan Davis isn't?
not by some he isn't, in fact I doubt many GM's think that either, your enamored by his athletic ability, and over look actual production, all 15 snaps a game production

Again. Maybe Simmons wasn't the "top consensus by every GM" in the 2019 draft either.
4 were taken ahead of him. Not only because of injury and the assault, but because the 2019 draft was loaded at DT and Edge. It was like the deepest class of all time.
Quinnen Williams was always the favorite. Ed Oliver had insane production and people compared him to Aaron Donald. The two Clemson boys were huge favorites.
I have said it may times. How you draw your conclusions and decide what hill to die on each day will always baffle me. But also keeps me coming back to this forum.
Can't quite put my finger on it, but Quay doesn't ~feel~ like a Packers pick (to me).
He feels more like what people think is a Packers pick because it bucks the expectations for what we will do, and we have a habit of making those picks so you can get where people are coming from... but just ends up not being anywhere close.

I always respect a mock that takes some chances, looks different. But I pretty much picture Logan Hall as a big elephant edge than i do a 3-4 DE.
So taking ebeketie at 28~ a shorter, albeit, stockier edge, just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.
I wouldn’t hate either, I think Ebeketie’s length would be an issue for us. Definitely can’t imagine a world we take both tomorrow.
Fully disagree on Hall. A lot easier for a guy to add strength and make his home inside than to improve twitch, get off, and pass rush moves to defeat NFL tackles. Interior player all day unless it’s a specialty short yardage package.

whoops!
