I would not be surprised if we add another vet or two before TC starts, similar to what we did last year with De'Vondre. I am not sure where that will be, exactly, but I think Gute/MLF like to get through OTA's and Minicamp to see what they have before making those final roster fortifications.

Other Nuggets
I love hearing they had a few reps where Gary bumped inside and Quay lined up at the edge. It's a look, not a position switch, but that's the sort of versatility these big, high-level athletes are supposed to give us. Walker was a plus blitzer at UGA.
Nice summary, YoHoChecko. One thing I didn't see mentioned was that Ray Wilborn reportedly got a sprinkling of snaps with the 1's ahead of guys like McDuffie and Summers.

Hoping CB, edge or safety at this point. Don't really love our depth right now, not really excited about any of those backups.

I actually feel better about the secondary, as a whole, than I did before minicamp, but EDGE, I think, makes way too much sense. Dee Ford is a name to keep an eye on, I think.

Why not both?

Chris Harris Jr and Dee Ford. A CB/S who will play for next to nothing and a mid-tier regular vet contract for the EDGE help. Bango Bingo.

Only reason, I can see, would be guys like Nixon and Davis and some of the others can give you Teams snaps where, at this point, I doubt Harris can. I wouldn't bat an eye, but would prioritize EDGE much higher.

I would also be looking under every single rock for a LS and maybe even a dedicated KR.

Agree on the ST value of the bottom-roster DBs; depends on how many we keep. That has been my consideration also.

Wild disagree on dedicated KR. We have several guys on our roster who can do something along those lines and we really need the WR roster slots given the unique nature of our WR room. Our top 3 veterans (Lazard, Watkins, Cobb) are free agents this year and we have a significant investment in young WRs. I'd rather keep 7 WRs this year than 6 and a dedicated KR. And I feel that's almost where the extra roster spot has to come from. It's a pretty tight numbers game everywhere except EDGE.

Gotta say confused by Garvin, really thought he was kind of coming along last year, giving nice snaps, but now he is behind Tipa and Hamilton?

I’d pass on the whole lot.

Keep in mind the PS rules are different again. I believe zero protection but unlimited elevations. That could be a KR or limited use role player. I agree prioritizing 53 man roster spots for longer term prospects.

I think the chronic back/spine issues are a red flag with Ford

https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/1 ... ic-issues/

"Really, after about three months, we found out that I was just basically, my whole spine was just chronically overused," Ford said. "I hit people for a living. It was sort of similar to someone who is born with a degenerative disc disease; similar to that.

"Basically, my whole entire body was affected. I had to sleep on my side for a whole year. It was pretty tough."

With Hansen and Newman rotating in and out with the ones (Newman at RG/RT with the 1s; Hansen at RG when Newman kicks to OT and #2C otherwise), it appears Hansen is the top interior backup at this moment.
In early June ? Sure.
My guess is that they just want some film on Hanson to see how he's progressed. GB has spent significant resources on IOL and I don't think that's because they have a lot of faith in Mr. Hanson. I suspect that Tom beats him out in TC and takes that 6th man IOL spot for 2022.
Hanson to PS or the vikings ( same thing)

Not so sure of this. Word is that Hanson (6th round draft pick) was physically immature as a rookie and yet they kept him. Last year he played in 5 games and dressed for 9 more. He just turned 25 entering his 3rd year so this means he was only 22 as a rookie. He is 6'4 3/8 so he is certainly big enough to play center or guard.

After last year with Newman the Packers may be leery of rookie Olinemen, especially at center which he was not in his final year at college. The Packers need a backup center and Sean Ryhan will likely be the backup guard. Of course it remains to be seen if Bakh or Jenkins starts on PUP.
