Percent of vote the winner got will be in parenthesis, position change vs. 2021 will be in brackets.
Here's how this works:
Each day there is a new thread/poll, starting at #1, on down to whereever we get. The whole point of this exercise is to have something to talk about in the lean news months to carry us to camp. Each poll will be open for voting for 24 hours. New threads will only be created on weekdays. Ties will cause a runoff poll. You may vote up to TWO players (a change that was made mid-poll last year, seemed to work well).
Simply voting is not enough!
Post why you voted for who you did and provide a player to add to the next poll (every poll will be a list of 15-20 guys, new players added in bunches every few days).
Here's the thing. There is no criteria. This is an exercise to foster discussion therefore there are no clear criteria for ranking. Who is better right now? Who will have the best season? Who was better last year? Sort of a combo of them all? Do you take positional value into account? It really doesn't matter.

I think the next 3 should be Tonyan, Lowry, and Watson, with a tier line after them.
Not sure what to make of RG yet.

What’s the rationale behind those still not voting for Tonyan? Is he really our second worst likely starter? Is it the injury situation? That didn’t seem to impact Jenkins much at all. I’m just perplexed. I’ve been voting for Tonyan for a while. Certainly ahead of the rookies.
Tyler Davis is the favorite to start in Tonyan's absence. Then they probably more-or-less share the role when he's back, but Davis will have been playing while Tonyan will be easing back in. By then, I imagine Rodgers will already have an idea of what the offense looks like while Bobby hasn't been part of the picture.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑20 Jun 2022 10:55What’s the rationale behind those still not voting for Tonyan? He's a fine player, I'm just not very bullish on his production this season.

I get the excitement for Wyatt, but I feel like Lowry, Slaton, and Reed will get at least an equal share of snaps (probably more). Wyatt has faced good competition but the pro game will still probably be an adjustment, whereas Lowry and Reed have years of experience at this level.
I will tentatively go with Newman as our starting RG but man, I am pretty sold on the hype with Rhyan and low-key pulling for him to take the spot. But I feel like LaFleur tends to prefer experience over rookies.
In this order for me: Lowry, Newman | Watson, Slaton, Reed, Davis, Cobb, Lewis, Barnes |

I mean, we should expect Newman to improve a lot, no? He started out strong, seemed like a classic case of rookie struggles down the stretch. At the start of the season it looked for sure like we found the next guy that was going to be there a while.
I like his chances to start at RG, he's the incumbent, its his job to lose, and I do expect a nice jump going into year 2 that will be hard for any rookie to top. I think Newman's biggest threat is GB finding another tackle and moving Jenkins back to LG, leaving Newman vs Runyan for the open guard spot.

I feel the same way. They got a good look at the offense without him last year and I just don't see us ever going back to that mold again. I think Tonyan will contribute, but more in the way they used Jimmy Graham toward the end, which is a glorified big slot WR. Tonyan's limitations inline decrease his value and if Davis shows anything of an upgrade in that department, I don't know that Tonyan will be able to take snaps away from him. Plus you still have the Big Dog and Deguara that have their specified roles. I think Tonyan has to really do a lot to get back into the mix.Labrev wrote: ↑20 Jun 2022 12:05Tyler Davis is the favorite to start in Tonyan's absence. I think Newman can get a lot better and he is my betting favorite at RG. The thing that gives a little bit of pause is his struggles with stunts and twists. Any time you see an OL continuously get beat the same way, you wonder if that is something that he will ever be able to correct. If he can, he is pretty much the total package at RG. I give Rhyan a fighter's chance, but I think Newman would have to lose the job more than Rhyan winning it.Waldo wrote: ↑20 Jun 2022 19:57I mean, we should expect Newman to improve a lot, no? Tonyan and Watson again for me.
Why don't people think that Tonyan will be ready on opening day?
https://orthonebraska.com/acl-recovery- ... -athletes/
"Typically, athletes will be back to their prior level of function by 9 months after surgery. Research has shown reinjury rates to be lower for athletes that returned to sport at 9 months or later."
Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said in March the tight end was "ahead of schedule" in his recovery. At six months removed from surgery, Tonyan has a chance to be cleared for the start of training camp. (May 27, 2022). The end of August is 9 months. TC starts at the end of July. I can't find a date of surgery but 6 months before May 27th is November 27th, 1 month after the injury.
Just because Bakh was way behind schedule is no reason to believe that Tonyan will not return at a normal time. And if Gute is to be believed, July 27th is possible.

Sure we can hope Newman gets better, but he also has a lot of competition.
If you give locks to Bak, Myers and Jenkins, you got JRJ, Newman, Nijman, Rhyan and Tom basically all competing for 2 spots.
And I think I listed them in likelihood they will be the preferred starter on the year. But honestly, I don't think there is a ton of a difference from JRJ to Tom.
Guess I have a hard time passing up on more likely starters over someone who Im guessing has maybe like a coin flip's chance of starting.

I think we need to consider that Newman was also splitting RT reps with the 1s. So Newman is competing to be the RT until Jenkins returns and the RG all season. Hanson was ahead of Rhyan in the OTAs and minicamps, but I agree that it's just a matter of time with the rookie to move forward. But if you give Newman a 50/50 shot of holding the starting RG spot and a 1/3 shot of winning the temporary RT spot, what you have is a pretty valuable 6th OL regardless of the position he winds up playing.
But yes, like BF, I'm going for more sure-fire starters.
I'm truly confused by the Tonyan analyses, that he'll suddenly have a hard time winning snaps from Tyler Davis after years of being one of our QB's favorite dudes on the team and a red zone threat. I guess that's why they play the games

Unless he improves his blocking he is a liability on the field. It's not just Tyler Davis, he is also competing with other QB fave dude Randall Cobb. I have a really hard time seeing his production from 1/2 a season last year and still going, "Yeah, but 2020!!"YoHoChecko wrote: ↑21 Jun 2022 08:32I'm truly confused by the Tonyan analyses, that he'll suddenly have a hard time winning snaps from Tyler Davis after years of being one of our QB's favorite dudes on the team and a red zone threat. 59 targets, 52 receptions, 500 plus yrds and 11 TD's, tied for league lead, and the most TD's by a Packer TE since Coffman.
been voting for Tonyan for a week, he didn't play last year, so out of sight, out of mind.

8 games. It just seemed like he didn't play because he didn't produce.
