exactly, Reed was a insurance signing, there is not even one including Kenny C that has the athletic ability or first step get off of Wyatt and we have to be more focused on pass rush then stopping the run, Wyatt was ranked to go in the teens by a bunch of scouts and draft people, sure it might take him a couple games to get going, but he comes from a very pro style college defense, which will or should make him more ready to play.salmar80 wrote: ↑27 Jun 2022 11:19Reed's 1 year, $3,250,000 contract combined with us drafting a pass rushing DL in the 1st round don't exactly scream "TONS OF SNAPS". But this is his last opportunity to earn a longer term paycheck from somebody, and he has had some very productive years... I'm not voting for him yet, but would love for him to be another Guty bargain find...go pak go wrote: ↑27 Jun 2022 11:13I really hope we use more heavy sets with 3 DL's and go away with the 2 DL's. It wouldn't make much such for us to have 2 DL's with our defense.NCF wrote: ↑27 Jun 2022 10:53
I have a really hard time determining that pecking order behind Kenny. I also am unsure about the degree of specialization they will use. Reed seems like a guy they signed for 3rd-downs. Will he get base snaps/run stop snaps with Dean/Slaton/Wyatt? I don't really see it right now.
Another thing that hasn't been discussed at all is, due to our lack of depth at EDGE, will we use more 3-man lines and/or sprinkle in Lowry/Reed/Wyatt in at EDGE in certain looks. That would definitely make him more valuable.
imo when you have two quality ILB's with coverage skills you can play more base sets, the ability to cover dictates so many other things and, being last against the run really sounds worse then it actually is unless your offense is actually anemic, we didn't draft Walker and Wyatt specially to stop the run, more so to increase pass rush and coverage, just my opinion.
I went with Cobb, still a very deceptive short yardage chain mover, and Newman will be a tough player to bench, he does both pass pro and run blocking pretty good and he's bound to improve over last year, Bosa gives every lineman fits
