Percent of vote the winner got will be in parenthesis, position change vs. 2021 will be in brackets.
Here's how this works:
Each day there is a new thread/poll, starting at #1, on down to whereever we get. The whole point of this exercise is to have something to talk about in the lean news months to carry us to camp. Each poll will be open for voting for 24 hours. New threads will only be created on weekdays. Ties will cause a runoff poll. You may vote up to TWO players (a change that was made mid-poll last year, seemed to work well).
Simply voting is not enough!
Post why you voted for who you did and provide a player to add to the next poll (every poll will be a list of 15-20 guys, new players added in bunches every few days).
Here's the thing. There is no criteria. This is an exercise to foster discussion therefore there are no clear criteria for ranking. Who is better right now? Who will have the best season? Who was better last year? Sort of a combo of them all? Do you take positional value into account? It really doesn't matter.

I think I'll go Reed here. The team picked him up in free agency for a reason, if he makes the team he's going to play. Maybe not a starter, but there'll be snaps.
After that, time to get the Love train going. I think the trick with Jordan is not to evaluate him vs Rodgers or even as a starter, but rather as a backup QB. It seems like he's good at managing things when Aaron isn't around, that has a lot of value. That said, I really haven't seen it out of him at all to make me think he's going to be a great one one day. Aaron had those sparks you could grasp very early, his stupid fast release and accuracy. Maybe Love "works out" and becomes a Romo or Eli tier QB that aggravates use the rest of his career. We're at #26 now, a solid backup QB should be near the front of the backup tier of players, even if they do get very little field time.

Reed and Slaton. Thinking about Lewis, Davis or Yosh next. An improved Amari and Sean Rhyan also get consideration from me.
I would add Keisan Nixon to the list -- sounds like he will be an important ST contributor and seems to have locked down CB4. *edit* For that matter, Shawn Davis seems to have a leg-up over the competition at S; Henry Black probably shouldn't be on the list before he is.

I’m going with Reed and Barnes. Barnes is still going to have a role IMO, especially in Year 1, plus I expect him to be a monster on ST.
Agree about Nixon and Davis on the list. They should be getting votes soon as well.

I should have voted for Reed. My bad.
Little thought experiment here. Last year, we ranked Krys Barnes at #17. Did he get worse last year? I don't think so. Did he become less important after we drafted Quay Walker? Abso-freakin'-lutely. Is he still going to contribute, both from defense and ST in 2022. I sure think so. This seems to be his sweet spot.
I like Reed here and am OK with guys like Big Dog going ahead of him, but otherwise, this kind of seems to be his sweet spot. Why am I on an island here?

there are to many players people like more, I went with Reed and my second choice is really tough, we run a ton so Lewis will see a lot of snaps, and while I think Walker will struggle in coverage he is still the best option outside of subbing in a safety on 3rd down, that leaves Barnes to backup duty and ST's and people are reluctant to vote in ST's players.NCF wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022 10:45Little thought experiment here. I really don't get the votes for Love at all, but
I think Barnes was just average enough in 2021, that people still value him, but push the potential and hope for newly acquired and drafted players ahead of him. That is my thought anyway.NCF wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022 10:45Little thought experiment here. Last year, we ranked Krys Barnes at #17. Did he get worse last year? I don't think so. Barnes had a chance to shine playing next to Campbell. His last year's ranking was boosted by many envisioning Barnes having a bigger role. I don't think he showed much improvement. Instead, his low ceiling was confirmed, and we used a 1st rounder on his replacement.Packfntk wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022 12:12I think Barnes was just average enough in 2021, that people still value him, but push the potential and hope for newly acquired and drafted players ahead of him. That said, Barnes is still adequate at what he does, and if coaches want Quay to sit and learn for a while, he may play plenty. Should not fall too far.

We are in the backups now. Every regular position except ST has a player that we have chosen to fill it. At some, such as WR we have already chosen 4 players for 3 positions. In the DL, we are now considering the 4th lineman, and the Packers play a 3-4, not a 4-3. People are voting for a journeyman who never would have been signed if the Packers thought they would get Wyatt in the draft. If you are still considering Reed, read this: https://packerswire.usatoday.com/2022/0 ... rran-reed/
Anyway I have chosen the 2 backups that I think are the most valuable.
The first is Yosh Nijman, because he is highly likely to start given that BOTH of the positions he is backing up have a starter coming off an ACL. It is highly likely that he is a full time starter until October. In other words, he really is a starter, not a backup and he could easily play close to half the snaps this coming season. That is a lot more than either of the 2 Dlinemen getting consideration here are likely to get.
My other choice plays the most important position in football. The starter is only the 2nd or third player to be effective at his position at his age. And that starter got caught from behind in the open field by a defensive lineman late last season. 39 year old QB's lose their speed and then they take hits from Dlinemen and 260 pound outside LB's that never would have caught them in prior years. Jordan Love is the most important backup on this team.

He was probably ranked that high because he was a solid rookie UDFA starter at ILB, where we hadn't seen even competent play for years, and we didn't envision Campbell being the player that he was for us last year.NCF wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022 10:45Little thought experiment here. In 2022, he's probably a subpackage guy who plays mainly against the run, something I would value more in the mid-30s. I can go up a little from there because he's also an adequate starter, and it's nice to have that in a backup, but solid run-stop LBs are kind of a dime-a-dozen.

Totally understand the sentiment here, but I look at this as contributions in 2022. Not saying that Love should not be in consideration here, because he definitely is, but I think a couple players on this list yet will be contributors this season.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022 13:04We are in the backups now. Unless some other TE becomes a better run blocker then Lewis, then he will rep higher then any other backup on this team besides WR, not even close
and Rodgers is not this decrepit ol man Skeptic proposes him to be, Gute and staff didn't pay him 50 plus mil. with the inkling that he may die off midway through the season and Love would have to sub in, the goal of bringing in several quality receiving prospects is to keep Rodgers from having to scramble we are on a run to the promised land, if they had any mis givings with Rodgers they would have traded him or at minimum brought in a more ready to play QB over Love, the chance that Love plays any more then mop up duty imo are as remote as me finding the fountain of youth, and believe me, I been a looking

Went Yosh and Reed again. I'm surprised Yosh not getting more love. Swing tackle with a good chance to start week 1 for Jenkins. Reed will be asked to come up big on passing downs
It's pretty muddled in this group but Yosh is an easy vote for me. Thought he should have went already esp before Newman

But backup QB is and can be a hugely important contributor even without ever setting foot on the field. A lot of actual real practice for starters doesn't happen with #12 under center. The opponent that gets your defense ready each week is run by your backup QB.
Nothing makes a football run like a well oiled machine better than a good backup QB.
This is where Aaron really began to shine and where Jordan appears to doing so as well.
That's a lot more valuable than some dude that's going play a few ST plays a game but otherwise contribute little.

Well you can tell me at the end of the season why it was impossible that an aging QB could take a big hit and wind up on IRYoop wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022 14:13Unless some other TE becomes a better run blocker then Lewis, then he will rep higher then any other backup on this team besides WR, not even close

Reed got 2.5 sacks last year. Despite playing 70% of the snaps. Last season, Reed’s pass-rush win rate was just 8.0 percent, which ranked 78th out of 83 qualifying defensive linemen in the NFL, per PFF.
people can ask him to come up big on passing yards but he won't.
never said it was impossible, just improbable, Waldo made a good point, Love will do more then just hold a clip board, but the design of Lafluers offense is to insure Rodgers doesn't have to scramble, there have been quite a few QB's that played a long time who quit scrambling around there last few years, Bree's, Brady, Marino, both Mannings, you act as though 40 has him one foot in the grave for cripe sakes.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑02 Jul 2022 08:27Well you can tell me at the end of the season why it was impossible that an aging QB could take a big hit and wind up on IRYoop wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022 14:13Unless some other TE becomes a better run blocker then Lewis, then he will rep higher then any other backup on this team besides WR, not even close

Yea I read the article you shared and there are also some positives there. While the sack numbers aren't high he generates pressures. 169 I believe it said.
Also he doesn't miss games and stays on the field. He must be doing ok if he eats up a ton of snaps. GB using him in a rotation and stunting him I think he will be ok for my vote here.
That article also said he's a major upgrade to Lancaster so that right there is something positive
