I think Vainisi for his role in developing scouting in football, and for some all-time great drafts resulting from that. And for essentially getting Lombardi hired. Had league-wide impact along with being a big part of why the Packers survive to this day. The only reason he's not more famous is his unfortunately short life.

I think with Remmel, he's more fitting in the Packers HoF. He didn't seek fame, he made others famous and kept them remembered. I think low-key remembrance of hard core fans is fitting for him.

I'd go with Vainisi, (isn't this his 2nd or 3rd time being a finalist) fore runner to modern day scouting, between Jack and Vince the Packers became a dynasty and dominated for a decade, like Sharp, should have been inducted years ago

Now I'm rooting for a trifecta. Vainisi, Sharpe and Dilweg. These guys seem to be the most deserving (and overdue) this time around. Seeing Jack Vainisi 1950 to 1960 on the inner sanctum facade along with Vince Lombardi 1959 to 1968 would be extremely fitting.

Sam Vainisi still lives in GB, all 3 brothers where very successful at there chosen profession


Dr. Samuel J. Vainisi is one of the country’s pioneers in veterinary ophthalmology. He was the first veterinarian to complete a comparative ophthalmology program with M.D. residents at Stanford University Medical Center. After completing the program, he established the ophthalmology program at the Animal Medical Center in New York, later returning to the Midwest to start referral clinics in Green Bay, Wis., and Chicago, Ill.

Vainisi is one of the founding fathers of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, having also served as its secretary and president. He was the first veterinarian to be admitted into the American Society of Retinal Surgeons, and his instructional video on canine retinal surgery won the prestigious film award, “Oscar,” given by the society. One of his famous patients who had his retina reattached was movie star “Benji.”

He also is a member of the faculty at the University of Illinois in Chicago, where he is the only veterinarian to have reached the rank of full professor at the medical school. He currently consults at the university’s toxicology research laboratory.

In 2010, he was awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association. In 2005, he received the Assisi Award by the Green Bay Humane Society and Shelter.

Vainisi continues to practice part-time in Green Bay at his ophthalmology referral center with his wife, who is also a veterinary ophthalmologist.

Sam would be about 66 yrs now, if Jack had lived to a ripe old age he'd be 95 yrs, which means Sam was about 2yrs old when Jack died, thats a huge gap between brothers, almost seems like a clerical error.

It's tough to imagine Sharpe making it in after this much time. When he was first eligible, longevity played a much bigger role; now that guys like TD and others have made short, but dominant careers more HoF-worthy. But by now, do the voters have clear memories of how dominant Sharpe was? Do they remember that Sharpe and Rice were considered near-peers in the 90s? That there was debate, if only a little, about who the best WR in the game was while Rice was in his prime?

On a more personal note, Sharpe was one of the main reasons I'm a Packers fan. His was my first jersey--I bought it on my first pilgrimage to Lambeau when I was 13 (became a Packers fan at 11). I viewed Favre and Sharpe as two of the next "Big Three" when the Cowboys had made the Aikman-Emmit-Irving "big three" the primary model for offensive success in the league. I figured Bennett could step up and be our 1,000-yard rusher to fill out the trio. I absolutely loved this guy. I was devastated when he got hurt.
