Caleb Jones played well, and he practiced well lately. He is a real practice squad guy. Tom I did not notice, which isn't a bad thing for a rookie playing tackle.
D-line backups did good. Heflin played just as good if not better than preseason last year. Reports from camp made it seem Ford overtook him, but he is a gamer.
Slaton did well, Slayton also impressed me.
I thought Jordan Love looked a lot better than he previously has looked. He did not look as good as Rodgers in Rodgers' 3rd year, but he looked much improved.

I don't really get the comments of "Love looked indecisive" or "Love looked slow to make decisions". I thought he looked much better in that respect than last year. I think his accuracy/footwork is still not where it needs to be yet, though.

There used to be a theory going around that you can only remember a handful of plays for any given player. Love finally added a real highlight to the list with that TD throw, that play was legit, he threw his man open into the EZ.
so you remember Rodgers first 3 seasons 14 years ago.
https://wisportsheroics.com/packers-com ... ive-games/
not only has Love been better, it's not even close except a couple picks
All told, Rodgers was 15/31 for 111 yards and no touchdowns in his first five games. He had one interception and a quarterback rating of 43.9.
Jordan Love’s First Five Games
Technically speaking, Jordan Love appeared in six games last season. However, in two of those games, he was only kneeling down to run out the clock. There were actually four games in which Love attempted at least one pass (more than Rodgers in either of his first two seasons). Despite the immense criticism he has received from fans, Love has actually performed better than Aaron Rodgers did in his first five games.
Jordan Love saw his first action of 2021 as the Green Bay Packers were being blown out by the New Orleans Saints. Appearing in the game with the score out of hand, Love complete five of seven passes for 68 yards.
His next real action was his first NFL start. With Aaron Rodgers out with COVID, Love and the Packers traveled to Kansas City, one of the toughest stadiums to play in for visiting teams. The Packers lost 13-7 in a game they could have pulled out. Jordan Love completed 19 of 34 passes and threw his first NFL touchdown. Unfortunately, he also threw his first interception.
Jordan Love’s final action this season came in the season finale, a 37-30 loss against the Detroit Lions. The Packers did not have much to play for, having clinched the NFC’s top seed. Playing in the second half, Love completed 10 of 17 passes for 134 yards. He also threw a touchdown and two interceptions.
All told, Jordan Love was 36 of 62 for 411 yards. He had two touchdowns, three interceptions, and a 68.7 quarterback rating. Are these the best numbers? Far from it. However, they are better than Aaron Rodgers’ first five games.
I think it's easy to forget that Rodgers struggled early, and what I remember most about both during those early years is that both appear to be playing in hurry up on every play, and imo thats because the game is still to fast, and there trying to keep up.
this is not to say that I think Love will be as good as Rodgers, rather that Rodgers needed time for the game to slow down too.
Around 2010 or so I read a story that interviewed BF. He mentioned AR's first minicamp in 2005 and a sideline throw he made that just made everyone take notice. He said right then everyone knew AR would be at least very good. Then BF talked about how AR ran the scout team, even his first year. We have heard none of that about JL.

You read that in 2010, 5 years after Rodgers was drafted. Just saying.wallyuwl wrote: ↑13 Aug 2022 20:39Around 2010 or so I read a story that interviewed BF. lol yoop.
Now I see a post from you insinuating that Love is better than Rodgers first action. The exact opposite stance you had last year. And then bring up an article of comparing Rodgers's first 5 games (2005 and 2006) to Love's first five games when Texas specifically stated in his post of comparing Rodgers 3rd year to Love's 3rd year.
I agree with Texas. Rodgers was definitely farther ahead in the preseason of 2007, but Love also looks significantly better than he ever has. I think he just needs more confidence in his throws. His touch throws seem to be off. His throw to Deguara on the first series was just far too much of a floater.

Bingo. Coaches knew before on field game day production came. That’s why they were willing to not let Favre come back. Make no mistake, if Rodgers sucked and the org didn’t think he had “it”, they would have happily welcomed Favre back.wallyuwl wrote: ↑13 Aug 2022 20:39Around 2010 or so I read a story that interviewed BF. The rodgers love comparisons are insane lol.
After the drama of the vax, shroom trips, and other Rodgers drama, if Love had “it”...Gutey would have saved 50m dollars and moved on to him with courage.
Fact is, love has given Gutey no reason to feel courageous. Love hasn’t stepped up to the plate, it’s obvious.

Thompson had so much faith in Rodgers, the first year Rodgers was set to start Ted used a high pick on Brohm and a late one on another.Drj820 wrote: ↑13 Aug 2022 21:36Bingo. I'am not sold that Love will ever be more then a average Starter or back up, but neither was Ted Thompson with Rodgers.
this is basically Loves 3rd year and the first game of it, and you and others think you know just what he'll be, he's done just as well as Rodgers has, and if Ted had some doubt with Rodgers, then why would I ever put stock in anything you have to say concerning Love? seriously do you consider yourself to be on par with Thompson.
lets put the question another way, if we had Lance would Gute cut Rodgers to save 50 mil.? never happen, so your comment about if Love was better is silly,
and I was right, LOve till this point was better, and this is his first game of his 3rd year, and he was better in it then Rodgers.go pak go wrote: ↑13 Aug 2022 21:27lol yoop.

I love how you dig up what I said a year ago twist it like Salmar does to use against me, I've never said I thought Love would end up to be a better QB, simply that NO ONE here new how good Love can be, and thats still true, no one here does now either, what a bunch of A Holes.
I bet you believe everything Brett Favre says, huhwallyuwl wrote: ↑13 Aug 2022 20:39Around 2010 or so I read a story that interviewed BF. Well, first of all, if you apply the skill of literacy, you can see that this isn't the argument I was making. But second, yeah, pretty much. He only played in a handful of games that year, and I remember watching him looking real strong during preseason while at my aunt's house. And then of course the Dallas game.
Yeah, I agree he looked better at that. And more in command pre-snap, and also pretty poised in the pocket. That's good progression.Crazylegs Starks wrote: ↑13 Aug 2022 16:34I don't really get the comments of "Love looked indecisive" or "Love looked slow to make decisions". In his college tape, the maddening thing was that Love had long stretches of good plays where you saw absolute NFL starter material, and then out of nowhere a bad decision or an inaccurate throw, and those often led to INTs. This game reminded me of that, and that's why I'm maybe too disappointed... I'd just like to see a consistent game out of him. I'm not expecting any perfect game, just no easy-to-intercept balls or risky throws into unfavorable coverage thrown by him.
Hopefully the rust is now off, and he can deliver that in the following games. Because if he does find that consistency, he could have a future as a starter. The arm talent is there. But if that's something he can never shake, he won't last long as one. Frankly, I still don't know what Love will be in the long run.

Love just needs to play. This is true of all QB's. Even though this is his 3rd year, he got nothing in his first pre-season because of COVID. He only got about 4 quarters of play last year because of an injury. In the regular season game, his Oline was horrible and special teams had him starting inside his own 10 yard line - against a very good team. And if it were not for those 2 field goal misses, Love would still have led the Packers to a win.

I don't get why some people on this forum seem to want Love to play poorly? Whether you liked him being chosen by the Packers or not, as a Packer's fan shouldn't you want him to do well? To constantly bring up the point that he shouldn't have been drafted when he was is really a moot point now. He's here and he's a Packer. While he certainly didn't light it up against the niners, I thought he looked better than the last time I saw him play. The niners blitzed him more than I thought they would for a preseason game and he handled it quite well. He looked more comfortable in making his progressions and his footwork has definitely improved. He still has some accuracy concerns, but even those have improved over last year. I would think Packer fans would be giving him more support. I, for one, want him to succeed.
The bar has been set really low for Love at this point. I too want him to succeed because I want a good draft pick for him, or even want the freedom to move on from Rodgers if he starts playing games again.
I just have a little higher standard for the former first round pick it seems. I mean some see great improvement and reason for optimism if he remembers the play in the huddle and completes a handoff. Hall of fame bound when he completes a pass.
Love did some nice things. Also did some bad things. It’s okay to say that.

I do agree with Skeptic that the best thing for Love is just to play. He needs to fail and pick himself back up. All QBs must go through this. I would have played him all 4 qtrs on Friday.
