losing the game will not prove we cannot win a title, unless they just bully ball us and run for 300 yards and we have no answer.

Thats something that would seem repeatable in a playoff game.

other than that, its whatever

each year is a new team

we got this soft title because our defense had sucked for so long, not the case any more, we beat these guys last year, and can do that again, this will be a slug fest, and probably low scoring.

Pack 24-20 :aok:
It wasn't just the defense. Our inability to run in big games also helped cause that perception. How much of that was Aaron trying to play hero ball? I'm not sure, but we were definitely never confused as a physical offensive team, either.
I contemplated adding the run issues, mostly because the blame would gather to Rodgers, which I believe was always false, McCarthy imho was the main person that caused us to be so out of balance and didn't develop a better running program, not saying Rodgers didn't audible out of the run at times, but he came right out on media articles saying we need to run more, so who knows.

But I agree, if you can't win the short game and rely to much on the pass, you'll be considered a finesse, specially so when the defense folds so often :aok:

It's actually a great example was what happens year in and year out. There are those that say we are pretenders until we beat the good teams, but when we beat the good teams those teams are no longer good teams, so we are still pretenders. Happens pretty much every year.
Understood and acknowledged. My post did not do that, however. I made it very clear that the Lions are in fact a powerhouse team, while expressing my hope that the Packers make me eat my words.

And I am sure should we beat them tomorrow it will be all sunshine and roses until we lose again and then it will be proclaimed the Lions were pretenders just like we are and that win didn't mean much. Again, happens pretty much every year.

Well it comes with the territory, 23. This is Titletown, USA. My language is championships. In order to achieve that, you need to beat teams like the 2024 Detroit Lions. When the next championship ring comes, I promise I will stop bitching and might even put a smile on my face. It will be that much sweeter for you and the rest of the forum I am sure.

No you just need to beat them in January/February. We could sweep DET and SF in November and December but if we lose either of them in January...it's the same result.

What a great addition to our defense, there were only a few safeties available, and we got the best of the group, so reminiscent of adding Woodson years ago, when players like this are thrown into a secondary the whole defense gets juiced.

looking forward to playing Detroit, no matter who our QB is, in fact like before, Detroit has to prepare for 2 different game plans from us, the drop back and fire Love, or the RPO with Willis and Jacobs, and if it's a rainy slugfest the later might be best option, I'd hate to see Love make his injury worse.

either way, we'll need to play mistake free and opportunistic, get pressure, close the run lanes and tackle.

I do a bragging rite bet with BIL twice yearly, he's a loyal Lions fan, he's already got his hand out for the molla, I hope we wipe that smile off his face. :aok:

Honestly, I wouldn't give a $%@#. It's a weird double standard you hold. Should we win now we are contenders, but you will be grumpy until we win it all. Of course we all want to win it all and won't be content until we do. We don't have to be grumpy assholes along the way though.

Sorry, Papa, for twisting it too far.

I'm just generally tired of folks doing the moving-the-goalposts dance with expectations and recognition. The Texans game was hyped to be a prove-it match vs a contender, with Stroud playing awesome up to that point. Then we hold him under 100 yards, and suddenly it's as if the Texans weren't ACTUALLY a tough challenge and nothing was proven, and eyes turned to the next tough opponent as the next "REAL test". :idn:

Fact is, even if we were to beat the Lions handily, it wouldn't mean we'd be guaranteed a SB spot. It would mean nothing come one-and-done playoff time. Nor would it mean the Lions' success or ours thus far was just a mirage.

It's a given that any season that doesn't end in a SB win is ultimately disappointing. But I see no harm in enjoying the little victories along the way that potentially pave the way to the end goal. Even if we were to become a dynasty, there still won't be enough SBs to keep that smile going, so I choose to enjoy every victory although to a lesser degree.

Here's a profile photo for you when we do win it all next time :beer2: :

We're clearly a contender. If the Lions come out and beat the crap out of us, I don't think we can necessarily pencil in the same result for the playoffs like we could with Rodgers whenever a team would bully us back then. Back then, we lose in the regular season to a team with a tough defense, we are losing in the playoffs too. Nowadays, I'm not sure that holds up.

The only thing wrong with the Packers now is injuries. If the Packers are relatively healthy going into the playoffs and stay healthy, it does not matter whether they get a 1st round bye or are the last team to get a playoff spot.

But Love and Alexander and X and Gary and Jacobs and most of the WR's all need to be 100%.

I enjoy football and all that goes into the game. It's why I watch. Winning is even more nice and I like to see my team do more of that than not. But how am I going to allow myself to hold them all to a super bowl or nothing standard and allow that to dictate my enjoyment. I don't practice with them, I don't write up gameplans, I don't catch, tackle, block or even bring them a sip of water during timeouts.

I have about as little impact on a down, a game, a season as one could have. Much like the rest of you. I even have one of those papers with my families name on it stating we donated money to the cause and that was purchased just so I could serious while I'm talking silly with other funs LOL. So while championships are nice, and fun to talk about, it's also important to recognize where you fit in that hierarchy in terms of influence and adjust your attitude accordingly.

Well said.

I have never understood why some fans willingly build barriers to detract from their own enjoyment of the game.

Championship or bust. Beat this team or they're terrible. All-Pro or you stink.

It's an absolutist mindset and those people will likely never be content as fans. It's also a self-imposed, artificial means of curbing your own enjoyment for your chosen team.

As a fellow fan, it doesn't make sense to me why you'd do that to yourself. You're only taking away from your own enjoyment on a week-to-week basis with those lofty standards...but to each their own.

This is an interesting move. Davis was a ILB in college, and a certified a workout warrior (9.88 RAS, 4.49 40-yards...), who was thrust in a big role too early in WAS. This year they tried him at DE, didn't work.

Comments by WAS fans paint a picture of a Quay with even worse lack of awareness and instincts, leading to being late diagnosing and responding. Could be a guy who'd benefit from getting put in limited situations that take advantage of his strengths, especially his good blitzing.

Size/speed -wise SO close to Quay, it's uncanny. If Davis blooms late in NFL like in college, this could be quite the pickup.

This is a great pickup,

Not that they don’t have a big game in front of them, but did you miss the game at the end of November, the last in time we played them? I’ll assume you did
Papa's using the age-old tactic of negative nelly selective labeling.

Logic goes: Packers can never beat Real Good teams. Thus, if the Packers beat a team, that team can not actually have been Real Good, and is re-labeled as finesse/pretender/whatever. Therefore, by definition, the Packers can never beat Real Good teams.

Someone on this forum does this yearly. Usually it's "we never beats Real Contenders, and if we do, they were actually just pretenders".

So if we beat the Lions, we won't actually beat a good team, the Lions are just revealed to be bad. If we lose to the Lions, then it's "I told ya so, we never beat a good team".

I do like getting fired up about the game, tho.
What a stupid synopsis of what I said. I think you need to go back and re-read my original post one more time (or maybe more), specifically the last few lines.
“Stupid synopsis”?

How about retracting that. The only stupid thing I’ve read was your response
