Interesting. Newton never really seemed to fit there, anyway.

Wonder if they are gunna trade him to the Ravens after a few weeks for significantly less draft compensation.

Lions cut Geronimo Allison. Not like they were particularly deep at WR either.

However; they did keep 3 QBs including Boyle and 5 running backs including of course Jamaal...so I guess they had to trim fat somewhere.

9ers cut Ha Ha Cliton-Dix. I guess we'll wait some more for that ass whooping we were owed years ago.

Lions cut Perriman and Allison and an UDFA I like. Their depth would be totally fine on paper if they didn't cut everyone with name recognition. Unfortunately for us, name recognition isn't necessarily an accurate gauge of talent.

This guy did his win total bets for all 32 teams. Some rather interesting commentary to justify his picks
Check out what he wrote about the Packers:

https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/edge/arti ... redictions

Green Bay Packers -O/U 10 Over (-160) Under (+130)

"This number seems like it's too good to be true. After going 13-3 last season, how could the Packers not win at least 11 games in a 17 game season? Feels like a trap. Betting Under 10"

that's pretty weak and he deserves to lose that bet

32 Teams are mostly set on their rosters
Here are the Super Bowl odds for the 2021/2 season which culminates at SoFi stadium in LA on February 6th

What am I missing on the Rams that's got Vegas so high on them? Is it Stafford? I mean, he's an upgrade over Goff, sure, but I don't see him as the missing piece to a championship.

Stafford and that defense. I cannot be understated how bad and limiting Goff is as a QB. Stafford allows them to do everything and everything on offense. Still theyre too high. Its only year one for Stafford in that system.

I think they should be 3rd in the NFC behind the Buccs and us.

.
Lots of vets still looking for a 2021 home...some will sign soon, some will sign after week 1 and some will bide their time awaiting the inevitable injuries that shape depth charts. And some will wait for a call that never comes.

https://overthecap.com/free-agency/

Some of those listed need to be updated, but there's some vet talent available to fill some gaps

Geno Atkins
Kawann Short
Jurrell Casey...just announced his retirement
Olivier Vernon
Adrian Clayborn
Richard Sherman
Trent Murphy
Josh Norman
Kevin Johnson
Nickell Roby- Coleman
Bryce Callahan (potential trade)

from The Athletic

I'm not sure how "good" this "good" stat is, but I guess is speaks to mental make up - or the fact that Stafford throws a lot of INTs and has gotten better in recovering from the mistake:

"From 2011 to 2020, out of all quarterbacks who threw at least 50 interceptions, they found that no quarterback performed better than Stafford on passing plays after an interception. Of Stafford’s 121 throws after an interception, he averaged a 71.9 completion percentage within those parameters. He also averaged a depth-of-target of 8.2 yards on those throws with 8.9 yards per attempt."
.
Stafford's career INT % is 2.3 %, same as Cousins, Bridgewater and Trubisky. ( Rodgers = 1.4%)

When you consider the names on the negative side of that chart, it’s difficult to determine what to make of the stat…?

As a rule, any stat that has Mark Sanchez and Blake Bortles in the top 3 is a stat I don’t value much.

Rams defense was number 1 in ppg last year, their offense was 32nd. Detroit's offense was 20th. If the Rams defense maintains a top 5 status and their offense can come up to around 14 with Stafford they are a contender past the WC game.

I'm changing my mind on the Lions. I like what they've got going on in Detroit. May not be enough to rescue them this season but I can see what they are trying to build and it no longer seems so doomed to fail.
