Of course. Love the pure talent! He was drafted high for a reason! Up to a different coach to get that out of him

Understood and acknowledged. My post did not do that, however. I made it very clear that the Lions were in fact a powerhouse team, while expressing my hope that the Packers would make me eat my words.
And I am sure should we beat them tomorrow it will be all sunshine and roses until we lose again and then it will be proclaimed the Lions were pretenders just like we are and that win didn't mean much. Again, happens pretty much every year.
Well it comes with the territory, 23.
This is Titletown, USA. My language is championships.
You speak my language Papa.
I enjoy almost every regular season victory and the playoff wins are awesome (especially the 2014, 2016, and 2023 wins over Dallas).
However, not getting to a single Super Bowl (considering the play at QB) over the past 13 seasons has been a huge disappointment to me.
Big challenge coming up on Sunday against what looks to be the best team in the NFC if not the NFL this season.
No matter what the outcome, come 6:30 p.m. Sunday night, hopefully you and I and the rest of the fan base whose "language is championships" feels better about the Packers' chances of competing for another Lombardi Trophy.

Papa's using the age-old tactic of negative nelly selective labeling.
Logic goes: Packers can never beat Real Good teams. Thus, if the Packers beat a team, that team can not actually have been Real Good, and is re-labeled as finesse/pretender/whatever. Therefore, by definition, the Packers can never beat Real Good teams.
Someone on this forum does this yearly. Usually it's "we never beats Real Contenders, and if we do, they were actually just pretenders".
So if we beat the Lions, we won't actually beat a good team, the Lions are just revealed to be bad. If we lose to the Lions, then it's "I told ya so, we never beat a good team".
I do like getting fired up about the game, tho.
What a stupid synopsis of what I said. I think you need to go back and re-read my original post one more time (or maybe more), specifically the last few lines.
“Stupid synopsis”?
How about retracting that. The only stupid thing I’ve read was your response
Nah, it was stupid of ME to twist Papa's fiery locker room -speech post into my personal vendetta against cherry picking contenders/pretenders. My fumble.
His original post is written like a role play of Vince ranting in the locker room, and I think that's very cool. I wish we had more of that creativity on this forum.

It makes complete sense to me that those prognosticators unanimously picked the Lions. Detroit is built exactly like the type of team that has bullied the Packers around in recent history. These are some corn fed boys who show up to beat your ass into the dirt. Hey, Packers- we've watched you beat up on the other finesse teams like Houston and Dallas over the years. Why don't you grow some balls, step up, and take down one of the big dogs for once. Like SF or DET. You pissed off yet? Good. Then get your ass out there, get the W, and come back to rub it in this old man's face. Until then, get used to dealing with all the &%$@ I'm gonna dish out to ya.
Let

There is no question the lack of rings the last 15 years is disappointing. Our teams were far too good to come up with nothing. Not many other teams in the league have experienced as much consistent success with no conference championships to show for it.
The Bills in the late 80's early 90s and Vikings in their 15 year stretch are likely on the same level.
And yes that painful. It hurts legacys. Ted Thompson, Mike McCarthy, Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthews etc. all could have had such larger legacies in the NFL lore.

Best case scenario obviously is for him to be a quality starting-caliber player, but if he can just achieve the more realistic goal of being a useful role player, I will call that a win, be that as a subpackage guy who excels at the blitz or in coverage.

Well it comes with the territory, 23. This is Titletown, USA. My language is championships. In order to achieve that, you need to beat teams like the 2024 Detroit Lions. When the next championship ring comes, I promise I will stop bitching and might even put a smile on my face. It will be that much sweeter for you and the rest of the forum I am sure.
Sorry, Papa, for twisting it too far.
I'm just generally tired of folks doing the moving-the-goalposts dance with expectations and recognition. The Texans game was hyped to be a prove-it match vs a contender, with Stroud playing awesome up to that point. Then we hold him under 100 yards, and suddenly it's as if the Texans weren't ACTUALLY a tough challenge and nothing was proven, and eyes turned to the next tough opponent as the next "REAL test".
Fact is, even if we were to beat the Lions handily, it wouldn't mean we'd be guaranteed a SB spot. It would mean nothing come one-and-done playoff time. Nor would it mean the Lions' success or ours thus far was just a mirage.
It's a given that any season that doesn't end in a SB win is ultimately disappointing. But I see no harm in enjoying the little victories along the way that potentially pave the way to the end goal. Even if we were to become a dynasty, there still won't be enough SBs to keep that smile going, so I choose to enjoy every victory although to a lesser degree.
Here's a profile photo for you when we do win it all next time
:
Sal, you have my word. When the Packers finally win their next Super Bowl, this or something similar will be my avatar.

Packers are currently 10 point favorites over Da Bears on November 17th.
Packers currently have a 65% chance of making the playoffs.

Yeah, it seems like a lot of doom and gloom for a 6-3 team. Definitely missed some big opportunities in the first 9 games, but we are still sitting pretty to make a run in the second half of the season.

I mean a year ago today we were 3-6. We have essentially flipped the script.
The NFL is all about the second half stretch anyways. The real season starts Sunday.

I hope we used the extended time off to real focus in on cleaning up mistakes and playing sound football.
And I hope the WRs spent a lot of time on the Juggs (sp?) machine, because the drops have been back-breaking.

As much as I'd love to scream about so much reckless play, like some have said, we are 6-3. Much better than last year. The only question is whether this youthful team can come close to repeating the stretch they had last year thru December.
And if we get clear into the playoffs, only to be dominated by the Lions, will that induce any change in Packer team-building philosophy? Probably not. To be taken down by the Niners (twice), Bucs, and potentially the Lions because they can out-muscle this Packer squad isn't anything to be ashamed about. But the Packers have always said the goal is to win the Super Bowl. When brawny teams seem to clear the path almost every year, you'd think we should learn that this is the way and then adapt.

How does one fix pre snap penalties? How does 5 extra days address this?
I am just genuinely curious how messaging "don't move until the proper count" gets in the minds of players who already know they need to cut back on pre snap penalties.
Same can be said about drops and poor interceptions.

The mental mistakes may be a result of increased expectations for the team. Last year they were playing with house money and almost ran the table. This year there are playoff expectations and NFC North teams are the some of the best in the league. The players need to play with an edge but learn when they absolutely need a positive play vs we can just take a negative and it’s OK. Also they can’t fear the mistake otherwise they will crumble under the constant pressure and keep making them.

The gold standard right now in the NFC is the so-called "Lions Grit".
First things first. Must go into Chicago on Sunday and 1-2-3 dominate Da Bears. Then followed up with W's over both the 49ers and Dolphins at Lambeau. Gotta see it to believe it.
