Vikings lose their next 3 games.
We win in their house.
Detroit having clinched the #1 seed will have a meaningless game. But with the bye they’ll play their starters and have some fun.

League-wide it really feels like there are 7 Super Bowl contenders and then a bunch of longshots. I'm not saying anyone outside of the 7 has no shot at the championship--a run can always happen. But there's a clear tier if you look at W-L record; if you look at point differential; if you look for total DVOA... the top 7 teams are the same by each metric, though in different orders.
The Lions, Chiefs, Vikings, Ravens, Bills, Packers, and Eagles.
Honestly, a pretty exciting top tier. If any of those teams win the Super Bowl, then it is an earned and satisfying outcome to the NFL season. If anyone else wins, it'll be an annoying flukey one-off that will disrupt narratives and upset me because I like it when the best teams win.
(speaking of DVOA, ranking teams based only on play for the past 6 weeks (pre-Christmas, weeks 11-16), it is wild how good we look:
(and the top 7 from above are all within the top 11 in this time period, as well. With a major drop after the recent top 4)

Yes. Thursday games should stop after Thanksgiving. College football is over so put extra games on Saturdays

The NFL wants to add another week to the season with an 18th game. The players do not. But they can add another week by giving teams two byes. That doesn't increase gate revenue but it increases TV revenue with an extra week of content.
Once every team has two byes, you can mandate that NO game can be played before Saturday unless both teams had a bye the week before. Thursday games, special wednesday games... they all follow a bye week.
That means teams will have a regular bye and they will also have a period where they have extra rest before and after a mid-week game. This means no games are played with less than 6 days rest ever. Good for the players. It means the NFL gets better quality games on those off-schedule games AND get an extra week of TV revenue.
The byes would probably be spread across a 19-week season such that every team gets one between weeks 3 and 8 and every team gets one between weeks 10 and 16.
It's a great solution to multiple problems. And the fact that an experiment with multiple bye weeks per team in (I think) the 70s should have no bearing on implementing it now as the game, revenue structure, and schedules have changed.

I didn't watch a single snap of Christmas day football. Ridiculous for the turnaround time, it's not a normal NFL day, Football is not a part of "Christmas" so I don't see a need to force it, and i'm pretty much against streaming only games. The more they force me to make decisions the more I find I don't miss it as much as I thought it would. Tread lightly NFL, I think they're making a lot of stupid long term decisions for some short term gain.

The more you saturate these "prime time" games, the less meaningful they are.
As an example, Thanksgiving games used to be special. I don't see it that way any more.

They're doing fine. Your reservations are going to age out of the desired market. The NFL beats everything else when it comes to eyeballs on screens. Regular degular games beat MLB playoff games and NBA playoff games. They do run a risk of oversaturation. But streaming-only is not a problem. It's no different than when they jumped to cable-only by giving ESPN games and similar "warnings" about treading lightly were raised. Same as when they made the NFL Network host a few exclusive games.
Every time, a generation says "be careful" and the younger generation tunes in even more.

I would do it to align the Super Bowl with President's Day weekend so that the Monday after Super Bowl Sunday is a day off for a sizable number of viewers. The NBA is losing eye balls. NASCAR fell from grace ridiculously fast. MLB fell from the top spot to a new normal.
At some point the NFL will hit its peak. Personally I am most frustrated with the lack of practice, and ridiculous amount of rules to especially protect the quarterback.
It is insane watching games from 2010 and earlier. It was just such a better product.

I really liked the schedule that Dr Chao put out awhile back- it won't happen for revenue purposes but its player health-centric and would help eliminate some of the low quality games we saw this week
He suggested 6 weeks of games, then entire league is off for a bye
Then another 6 weeks of games, with the entire league off for a bye.
That gets you a break in late October and 1 in early December
His comment that followed was hilarious- Chao said that in addition to revenue issues - the owners also don't want people to go outside & enjoy the fall weather... without the NFL. They need to be at home watching commercials.

Yeah that is a non-starter. The NFL would lose buckets of money by taking full weeks off. That's like an opening negotiating ask by a players' union but it runs the risk of being so far out that it doesn't even merit a counter-offer. That's a proposition that solves only one party's problems and not only fails to address the other party, but harms them. Negotiating non-starter. Dead end.
