The point of a GM is use to available information to make decisions for the best interest of the team now and in the future. Past performance is only a portion of that available information.

This was unquestionably a terrible stretch of decision making from our GM (again being able to see the final results). And the Packers paid dearly for it. This decision alone essentially took the Packers from being the NFL's most talented roster in 2013 and 2014 to a 6-10 roster that was elevated by the play of Aaron Rodgers by 2017/2018.

OK, I can agree, mostly my point though is that GMs positional draft, and the decision to cut T Williams, and Trade of Hayward and Hyde prove it, even when in hind sight it didn't work as well as Ted had planned.

I still think some of the players had lost all confidence with Capers, Dix for instance looked like he played not to get hurt his last couple seasons, and Randal made so many mental mistakes, both seemed better when they got here then when they left ( u know, just the opposite of what we'd expect from young players) imho Capers, just like McCarthy designed schemes hard for players to do well in, while Rodgers ability could compensate for some of that on offense, after losing Collins, Woodson, Raji, our defense lacked the star power to over come.

And what I am saying is that was really the first time Ted did that completely where he gutted an entire position group that he drafted/developed and consequently was forced to start from scratch by using high draft picks to "refill the cupboards immediately" as you stated for "positional drafting" and it ended up being the worst series of moves IMO of Ted Thompson's career.

So you can point to that situation and say "all GM's positional draft"

Whereas I point to that situation and say, "this was really the first time we had to positional draft (you could also probably say we positional drafted in 2014 with Dix) during Ted's career and it ended in colossal failure.

Now again. There is a major caveat here with Ted and the CB position. Ted really only drafted to fill a #2 CB role.

He had House, Hyde and Shields on the roster and so at the time it was perceived that drafting these secondary players were just added competition and Ted just loved the players (though I find it really hard to believe how anyone saw anything in Rollins).

Shields injuries really showed quickly however how poor of draft picks Rollins and Randle were. At the same point, Gute did the same thing in 2018 and Jackson to this point has also proven to be a terrible draft selection.

nahh, first thing Ted ever did as GM for us was cut our 2 Guards and draft 3 OL in his first 2 drafts, and he did it when we cut lose of Bob Sanders and over hauled the defense when we hired Capers, we needed a NT, he took Raji, we needed a pass rusher he took Mathews, imo Ted used round one to positional draft a lot
