I keep seeing Tonyan listed on here as a guy who will command top dollar. I just don't see it. He was very good in 2020, but hurt most of this year and was only OK when not injured. He was nothing prior to 2020. There is no guarantee he will return to 2020 form or anywhere close to it from the ACL.

On another note, I can easily see AR taking a home team discount to stay in GB if he gets a little say in the roster (like he did with Cobb). No reason for him to give a discount if Gute will blow $6 million on King.

I am reminded of an article I read about AR probably a decade ago or more. In the article was a story about this fancy restaurant he went to in CA. Got a Cobb salad, no cheese, watching his calories. It is a restaurant he said he went by all the time in college and always wanted to go there but couldn't afford it. He said he went there because he could: almost like a tangible affirmation that he made it, all the work was worth it.

The point is, AR doesn't need the money. I don't even think he really values the money all that much anymore. IMO, the money to him based off of his recent words is more about what the money says (to quote the movie Moneyball: that he is worth it). But I can totally see him leaving money on the table, maybe a lot of $$$, if it truly goes toward keeping/building the team for another run or two.

But he could also likely get a shot at a talented team PLUS money elsewhere. And I think that is just too much "best of both worlds" for him.
Its not the best though.
Any place he goes, he doesn't have MLF or Gute or all of the teammates he loves or Packer Nation or Lambeau. He has to start over in a new city, build a relationship with a new front office, learn a new offense, acclimate to new team mates - and have his new WRs earn his trust.

That's a multi-year proposition. For reference, PManning went to a stacked Denver team and it took him 4 years and he lost one SB along the way

AR's nearing the end and he knows it. Money is no longer The Decider, because its not in short supply.
Winning games, winning Titles is - and he only has a few years left to burnish his legacy. And his legacy is very important to him.
There is no other opportunity in the NFL as good as Titletown for Rodgers for the next 2 seasons.
Yeah, but if he goes to Denver they have enough cap to pay him AND pay Adams AND Tonyan. In addition to a very good D, Rodgers then has a better group of WR's than he had in GB, 2 top TE's and a big RB who averaged 4.5 yards per carry. He now is on a legitimate SB contender. This is a 14-3 team.

I am sorry, but your assertion that GB offers the best opportunity for him does not hold water. With what the Packers have to do to keep Rodgers and not lose both Jenkins and Jaire a year form now, the Packers are at best a 9-8 team. More likely they do not even win the NFC North and miss the playoffs.

he was pretty much a ghost when he was playing in 2021. Id love to see somebody smart breakdown film of what the difference was. Were opposing teams aware of him as opposed to letting him fly under the radar? Was Rodgers just not force feeding him the ball like he did on the goalline in 2020? Im not sure, but he was not very productive.

2 Tds in 8 games, 5 of 8 games with less than 11 yards receiving.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. I don't see King getting any suitors outside GB. I also think he is more valuable to us than another 5th or 6th DB. His strength can be playing slower WRs or big WRs in the slot. Like he has a niche. I certainly trust him more out there than an Isaac Yiadom.

So at a minimum deal, I think painfully it may be best to bring him back. I think King has a better chance of being a Packer than Chandon Sullivan does - simply because I think Sullivan will get more interest outside of GB.

You got to keep around 5 CBs. If you have Stokes, Alexander, Douglas, that means you need at least 2 more. So King may be in that conversation or fight in TC to beat out others to make the 53.

The biggest knock on King for that 4th - 6th DB role is STs. Right now he sucks at them.

I wait 2 months to see how that knee is healing and maybe not do too much with his contract. But that is a way more savings than I thought we could get from Bak.

It's around $8.1M without the void years. Still a nice chuck. I expect he, Jones, and Clark are all getting restructured. At minimum.
