They're saying no trade reached, Gilmore to be released? That must drastically lower our chances of getting him.

Jaylon Smith (ILB) being released by the Cowboys, as well.

I'm usually not into these bigger name releases (there's a reason for them), but both are at need positions given injuries and whatnot. Would be interesting.

By saying it, they are putting pressure on teams to make a trade happen happen.

All mind games and tactics till something happens. Could be Gilmore said no to going to GB, or elsewhere, without a new contract.

If he wants $15 million we'd basically have to sign him for the minimum salary with a $14 million signing bonus and 4 void years to spread the cap hit out and convert it to dead money after the contract voids, which would make '22 much worse. Conversely, we could sign him for 2 years at the minimum and give him a $28 million bonus and 3 void years so he counts around $6M/year the next two years and then we get a huge dead money hit in '23

Bringing in Gilmore would constitute evidence we are in fact "all in" and not just about to hit a cap crunch.

That said, not sure about Albert Breers and his credibility as a Packers insider.

And, Im with Lebrev...ive seen this movie before.

I am preemptively disappointed and anticipating heartbreak for those who are not.

Yet still there exists a glimmer of hope.

Meanwhile, Jaylon Smith's salary is guaranteed by the Cowboys so you can sign him for the vet minimum and he won't be giving up a dime of what he's owed for the year.

Somebody tell me something. Why are they getting rid of him? I can understand the trade, get something for him while you can. But if it comes to a release, why? Does he suck this year? Is he not playing for some other reason? Serious question, I don't know his situation this year.

I mean its the NFL salary cap, if there is a will there is a way...that said, we rarely demonstrate we have the will for these sorts of things.

He hasn't played because of an injury. It's unclear if he's injured or he's "injured" to avoid practicing. He's one of the new trends some reporters are calling "hold in" instead of hold out, where you report to avoid the mandatory fines but refuse to practice and the team goes along with it.

He wants a new contract; he wants more money. The Pats are turning the corner. They have something like $50,000 in cap space this year and free up more than $5 million by getting Gilmore off the roster. It's rumored they're trying to bring back Jamie Collins, so it's likely that they needed to cut or trade Gilmore in order to do so, given how tight they are against the cap.

It's wild how many teams are failing to find trade partners for players right now and releasing them. Anthony Miller released, Jaylon Smith released, Jamie Collins released, Gilmore released. All guys who you'd think would merit a conditional 6th or 7th for a team that has familiarity with him :idn:

So if he wants to play for GB, that definitely helps.

If he wants double digit money...that does not help. I don't see how we can really make that possible or if it is even right to do so. That's a lot of money for any signing this time of year.

I'm hoping some cool heads can make this work.
