Hurts can't throw (but he is definitely a winner). Maybe their coach is a superstar but idk. Is their defense secretly elite like they were in 2017?

This sounds like some commentary from someone who has not watched the Eagles this year. Hurts can throw and AJ Brown has been a stud at the catch point.

You are correct. I haven't watched the Eagles this year, but even if I did, 3 games wouldn't change my mind regarding their abilities (assuming I would even agree with your assessment). If they do it for a whole year then maybe. Maybe AJ Brown has been a stud but I doubt Hurts learned how to throw all of a sudden.

The commentators during his game yesterday were equally as shocked to be seeing it. Said it was like the change Josh Allen made from year 2 to 3.

Yeah but this was the exact same thing the online experts were saying before the season. Their entire reasoning seemed to be "well since Josh Allen improved between year 2 and year 3, then that necessarily means that Jalen Hurts will improve in similar ways". So I think it is just something they already believed to be true because other people were saying it, when in reality, Josh Allen is and always was a once per generation arm talent (and it was obvious at the time he should have been #1 overall), whereas Jalen Hurts never was.

None of that means that Hurts isn't currently an elite passer (I wouldn't know, given that I haven't watched the Eagles yet) or that he won't have a better career than Allen, but it means that I'm skeptical of the experts when they say this because I think they had a pre-existing narrative in their heads.

For context, last year I actually attempted to trade Jalen Hurts for Jordan Love in dynasty so that I could carry on the Packers QB legacy when Rodgers retires--figuring Hurts was probably a stopgap that would be replaced by a draft pick soon.

This year I would not trade Jalen Hurts.

I just remember him at Alabama justifiably getting benched for Tua due to his ineffectiveness. Then he went to Oklahoma which is where mediocre QBs go to fool everyone into thinking they are good (and he was like the worst of such QBs at OU who did this; he wasn't even that impressive at OU which is frankly pretty difficult to do). Then he goes to the Eagles to explicitly be a backup but Carson Wentz has a breakdown and he winds up the temporary starter that everyone just pretends is actually a starting-caliber talent. Then he becomes the default starter for the year due to the lack of solid QB prospects available to the Eagles.

Given all this, I have 2 conclusions:

1) He is not that talented
2) He is a tenacious winner who keeps succeeding despite the odds

Well, I'm not judging whether or not he has improved this year, although even if I were, 3 games is too small of a sample size to make me form a conclusion on whether or not he has. Either way, given the above and the fact that the prevailing narrative had already been written before the season, I don't think I'm unjustified in being skeptical (or actually, taking a wait-and-see approach with regards to him) without actually having watched him at all yet this year. Also, the fact is that QBs usually don't have a massive improvement one year to the next in terms of throwing ability.

Even Josh Allen really didn't- he was always very talented and very raw, and still is very talented but less raw. I think his improvement had more to do with the fact that they got him some NFL-quality WRs and linemen. His rookie year OL was one of the worst in history, and so were his WRs. I bet he probably got better too, but I find it hard to believe he had some magic epiphany in year 3 and all of a sudden became all-pro for no reason at all other than turning 24.

And Darnell Mooney seems to be pretty bad at these metrics.

Also, Aaron Jones 5th among RBs as a receiver.

But the stuff about not-Packer news was interesting, too. Surprised Davante is more of a 5-10 guy here, not a 1-5 guy.

I feel like that is a for sure loss for us based on aesthetics alone. In the spirit of alternates, though, the Bengals finally did something right.

Very interesting about doubs.

Carr has to learn to throw to davante even when he’s not “open”. Rodgers would and adams would make a play. Carr sees davante “covered” and goes somewhere else with the ball. Bet that tests the two fellas friendship

Glad we got some experience preparing for 3 QBs there, cause sounds like we are going to have to prepare for 3 QBs this week.


Also, I believe this will be the very first London game with two teams having a winning record.
