Probably blew the whistle on forward progress that’s why the clock didn’t stop.
You can't stop the clock by fumbling out of bounds; it's a rule to stop players from just tossing it out of bounds when getting tackled in bounds. The clock only stops until the ball is reset.
Rizzi not knowing that as a veteran coach is pathetic. He still doesn't understand it at the halftime interview. It wasn't a miscommunication.
I wouldn't be surprised by a lot of coaches not knowing the rules.

obviously we're cruising and I'm in a great mood. But I'm really miffed we had a possession where we didn't score. Especially when the final two minutes looked so meh.
I don't know how we compare to the rest of the league, but it sure seems like we give up a lot of late first half points in the MLF era. It's a situational football element we really could improve upon next year

Lupe may be in luck, that I think LaFleur wants to go up by one more score before it's backup time. Jacobs with 50+ yards after contact - that man has ten times the balance Dillon and his quads have.
D down 4 starters held the Saints under 100 yards, 2 sacks and forced a turnover.
O kept imposing it's will, especially on 3rd down. Only stalled drive due to for funsies deep shots.
Saints last hope of making this game is after 2nd half kickoff. Stop 'em there, and cruise.

We are doing what we should be, beating a bad team bad. Total control.
Only question now is how to keep Watson from tightening his hammy.
The 3 stiffarms by Jacob though are thing of BEAUTY.

I've got a pretty cool half-time show going on... View from my kitchen window.

I wouldn't be surprised by a lot of coaches not knowing the rules.
I feel like this loosely relates to my conversation with APB earlier about the importance of the little procedural things and how watered down the adherence to basic rules seems to have gotten to the point that some people are more upset about the penalties being called at all instead of being upset that coaches aren't instilling the basics and discipline to the procedural rules more fully and consistently into their teams.
Unrelated: the way the Saints played the end of the half, first trying to run out the clock with a rushing first down, then only trying to score once they got a (weak) penalty moving them forward.... considering they're down 3 scores and had the chance to double up possessions with a score and getting the ball after halftime... that's the most weak, give-up end-of0half I've seen from a team in a while. It was the end of the half, but they signaled they had given up on the game by not even trying for the double dip.
In my view, this half of football ensured that Rizzi is not the next head coach of the Saints, nor anywhere for some time. Just no aggression, no gumption, no knowledge of situations, no urgency, no results. And then complained to the refs all the way through it. Couldn't be my coach.

I have seen Musgrave on three snaps for sure. Super Joe picked up on his field presence on the third of them. He must've been distracted by all that bowling in Ashwabenon.
;-)

I mean, if you're the HC in charge of calling the TOs, and aren't well-versed in all the relevant rules, you better have someone in your ear telling you to call it when situation like this arises.

Then the ref shouldn't have stopped the clock in the first place.

Didn't know that rule, but apparently fumble happened inbounds, and clock doesn't stop even if the fumbled ball goes outta bounds.
I’m saying that the play was probably blown dead before the apparent fumble.

Would be weird if they did blow it dead so fast. It was just 1-1 and WR was still fighting.

It wasn't blown dead. The ref stopped the clock after the fumble and restarted it. He should not have stopped the clock.
