Prime AG was really, really good. His peak just was shorter than fans could have hoped because of injury.texas wrote: ↑17 Feb 2025 17:10Yeah, I agree. I had to go look it up though. In my recollection, he wasn't even as good as Aaron Jones or Jacobs based on eye test. Or even Eddie Lacy in 2013. I generally viewed him as a good RB who was a beneficiary of a lot of touches, but I just looked and saw his YPC was 5 so I am going to have to add him to the list, for that one season.Papa John wrote: ↑17 Feb 2025 17:02You have a good list. I'd consider Ahman Green to be an elite player. He set the single season record for most yards from scrimmage in 2003, IIRC.texas wrote: ↑16 Feb 2025 15:52I legitimately don't think there were many redeeming qualities of the entire Sherman era. You could list guys like Kampman or Sharper or KGB but I really don't think any player during that era was elite in the ways that some of these other guys were. Kampman would be the one that I would maybe include but he basically disappeared when we changed DCs. Barnett was our best ILB over the course of like 2 decades but that was because we never had any good ILBs. CMIII for those 8 games was a better ILB than Barnett was

Green was better than both. Only thing he had against him early was some fumbles. He could do it all. He was Jacobs between the tackles in terms of toughness, but with better speed it seemed. For me it's easy, Green>Jacobs>jones>Lacytexas wrote: ↑17 Feb 2025 17:10

For Runnings Backs, Jim Taylor and Ahman Green are the best in Packer history. I didn't watch Taylor but did watch Green. He was the best I have seen it's just as people said...his peak was short lived.
The only thing that sucked about Green was wearing the black rubber sleeves on a rainy Monday Night game vs Philly in 2003 and not convincing Mike Sherman to go for it on 4th and 1 in the playoffs.

Ahman Green could make people miss, bowl them over, or just simply outrun them (he had runs of 70, 83, 90, and 98
yards with us.) His five year stretch from 2000-2004 was so fun to watch. It's unfortunate he had asthma which affected him in some colder games, otherwise he may have had even more touches.

Idk, maybe it was the result of 15 years of watching duds at RB, but to me Aaron Jones seemed more elusive and explosive. I was a fan for the entirety of Green's career but I could be misremembering him a little bit. At the time I remembering thinking of him as RB5-10 (except for 2003), whereas with Jones there were a few years he was RB2-3 imo. Jacobs this year was probably RB4-5 (Saquon, Henry, Gibbs). None of our guys have ever been the top RB in the league

Ahman Green both running and in the screen game was that good. We had a legit offense in 2003 even with our starting quarerback having a broken thumb because of Ahman Green. Just look at Favre's stats that year. Half the game he threw for under 200 yards. That 2003 team was legit and it was on the back of Ahman Green.
Josh Jacobs is the closest Packers back I have seen to Ahman Green in the last 20 years. Jacobs is the first guy who can also truly put the team on his back through both explosion and able to take 20+ carries a game.

Except for that nagging fumbling issue from time to time, Ahman is one of my all time favorites and gets my vote for best Packer RB. Ahman was flat out great. He could take it to the house from anywhere. He ran hard and broke tackles and always fell forward. The guy ran for 1883 yards in 2003 which is 12th all time in NFL history. I think he led my FF team to a championship that year

I own 3 Packer jerseys.
Paul Hornung, Tramon Williams and Ahman's
If you haven't watched any youtube highlights of him lately, check him out. Good stuff.
Saw Leroy Butler on a couple lists. Seems like he should be a no-brainer as an all time great being that he is in Canton. He is also one of my favorite Packers of all time. Really a great player and a kick-ass play in the Super Bowl win over the Patriots on his blitz sack
AG was a iron man of RB's, and did everything well, fast, agile, and pretty durable, I watched Taylor at every practice and game I could get to back in the early 60's, if Jim didn't have a defender in his grill, he'd set out to find one, easily the most punishing RB of that era, he averaged hurting a DB in practically every game he ever played in, Sam Huff, MLB of the Giants said he hated playing against Taylor because it would take all week to recover.Papa John wrote: ↑18 Feb 2025 18:25He was really 34 during that season? the Packers have a long list of great RB's, Jacobs is another, hope his production continues for a few more seasons

This statistic by an NFL analyst says that the Packers may have been better than their record and playoff performance showed.

Stats are great....until the actual results on the field come short.

Stats don't tell us pass rush failed us. It needed to be better, no doubt, but it wasn't the red headed step child of our team.

sure it was, go look up opponent QB ratings for a 3 count or less, under 2.5 they had less then 60 QBR, over 3 count and it went over 100.
heck you even brought the dang stats, our CB's did well when the QB was forced to out the ball under 2.5 and many of our sacks were coverage related and happened well after a 3 count.
that s why our first pick will be a pass rusher, mark it down

First, those are completely made up numbers. Second, every teams QBR against goes up the longer the QB can hold the ball. That doesn't mean our pass rush failed.
Again these are completely made up. There is no stat that says our CBs did any better or worse compared to other CBs when the ball was out in 2.5 seconds or less. And of course most sacks are coverage related when the ball is held for 3 or more seconds, that is true for every team.heck you even brought the dang stats, our CB's did well when the QB was forced to out the ball under 2.5 and many of our sacks were coverage related and happened well after a 3 count.
This is simply a confusion about stats and what they mean. The stats brought here aren't directly related to pass rush. Other factors play as big of or bigger roll in how long a QB holds the ball.
Here is a better indicator of pass rush especially when it corresponds with a very low blitz%:
