WTF are they doing in NE??

I am going to call it, NE drops into obscurity until after they move on from Belichick.
It's not necessarily that I mind their moves--having a great two-TE set will be good for them. Ahgolar and Borne are nice side pieces (they still don't have a real #1 or anything close to it)

But more what they AREN'T doing. Joe Thuney gone; David Andrews rumored to be leaving... their OLine already was mediocre, but bleeding. Interesting to see what they do on that front.
NE is such an OL factory, they get like a damn 3rd round comp pick every year it seems from the OL.

I'm not one to question BIll and McDaniels, clearly they felt the issues weren't on the OL and given their history, they can plug and play, the issue was garbage skill positions players.

William Jackson is my #1 free agent target if we move 'big'.

Kenny Golladay is probably my favorite luxury guy remaining I'd want, if no ridiculous contract. Think he'd be such a good fit here. Would like Will Fuller too. Seeing the money thrown at average at best WR's, doubt we'll be able to afford either.

Better price points:
Janoris Jenkins, Richard Sherman, Patrick Peterson, Malcolm Butler

Might be pricier, but Solomon Thomas would really complete that front 4/5. Could see him wanting a 1 year prove it deal to hit FA next year after his injury.

Not really in love with any of the interior DL, not sure who is really a significant upgrade over Lowry or Lancaster that would be worth a sizable $$ investment. Might just wait a week or two there.

Kind of the same on the OL. Not sure who would definitely be better than Lane Taylor (if brought back), Runyan or Patrick. I'd just wait a while and see you can add at a discount.

Marvin Jones is probably my top WR target vs. $$ it would cost. I wouldn't hate Golden Tate, Emmanual Sanders, or AJ Green, if the price is very minimal.
Not a bad list and assessment; not interested in your top-line WRs really, nor some of your bargain guys. Hadn't thought about Thomas; not a bad name to consider.

On interior DL, does anyone think we might wind up keeping Snacks on a smaller deal?

And Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball
There are many ways to paint the picture of Robert Tonyan. Some look forward, others look back and each has some merit.
Here's McGinn's year- end assessment from The Athletic:

Tonyan entered training camp just trying to stay ahead of Deguara and Sternberger on the depth chart. He ended the season as a bona fide starter with 11 TD catches (12 counting playoffs), tying Kansas City’s Travis Kelce for the league lead. In all, he caught 60 passes for 668 yards and an 11.1 average, including 4.13 after the catch. His drop rate of 1.5 percent (one in 66) was the lowest on the club.

Tonyan proved that he could threaten seams, find open places, come back to aid a scrambling quarterback and catch everything. The former quarterback-wide receiver isn’t a heavy-duty blocker but has only been a tight end since 2017. In March 2017, he ran 4.58 seconds in the 40 at 231 pounds. Today, he looks at about 245. He was charged with five “bad” runs, which represented considerable improvement as a blocker after having four in just 19.3 percent playing time last season. The coaches played Tonyan as a split receiver on 41.6 percent of his downs, 30.7 percent as a wing and 27.7 percent from a three-point stance. As a restricted free agent, the Packers would risk losing him with the lowest tender.

If I'm Buffalo, I know I can't get a TE as good as Tonyan late in rd 2 of this draft and I also know that having a talented TE is a huge boost for Josh Allen and the ascending offense. I also know that GM Beane has run the numbers and the deal $$ needed to poach him from cap-strapped GB is still a very good value for a starting NFL TE. OC Daboll knows that pairing him with Diggs makes both of them better, stresses the safeties and is a key piece for a Championship offense. Josh Allen isn't a crappy QB, so its reasonable to predict continued success and Tonyan has already proven his cold-weather mettle by playing in the frozen tundra.

We'll see what happens here soon enough, but I think its a bit more precarious than some may surmise.

I would not hate him. Wouldn't hurt the comp picks, new DC, never know, maybe a little more emphasis on LB.

What's the price point on these two? To make that swap it must be significant savings. Is Jackson looking at $16M/year or something? Aren't CBs expensive?

All good questions, but I am starting to wonder if the door is opening back up for Kevin King just to return on a 1-year or short-term deal.

No idea, Jackson just seems like one of those guys that doesn't get recognition he deserves from media or even teams, but is a really good player. PFF loves him. Maybe he lacks that ideal upside or something weird that turn teams off. I just don't know.

I don't think that door ever closed. I have always said he may return because he isn't good enough to get paid much; but do we want him? Wouldn't we prefer someone better than the guy who has been the weak link in our secondary and almost single-handedly lost the NFC Championship game for us?

Yeah, restricted free agents just don't get poached.

I do think 2nd round is maybe most likely, really don't think 1st rounder is on the table.

This is a 27 year old with one good season, 3 invisible seasons, and fairly extensive injury history. No one going to give up a 2nd and fair market contract for that. Zero reason to put a 1st on there, IMO.
And Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball, which I think just hurts receivers cred with other teams. Of course he looked good with Rodgers throwing. Will he be near as good with our crappy QB?
I actually wouldn't be surprised if they working on signing Tonyan to an actual contract and lock him up for a few years.

Like if they get Bobby for a 3 year $15 Million deal that includes a $6 million sign bonus to make his cap hit lower in 2021 than a tender would.

Tonyan loves GB. Jones just came back. The Packers have some leverage. Maybe they can work out a reasonable deal and bypass the tender.

Imagine having been a Dolphins fan in 2020:

April: "Finally, FINALLY Brady is gone. Tyranny of NE is over! Ding dong the witch is dead! Finally the road to the playoffs is clear! And we're going all-in in free agency. This. Is. Our. Year!!!"

December: :bigcry:

Of course, but we also don't have to go back very far in Packers history to realize that we could do worse.

Ha, some familiar names:
The Texans are cutting linebacker Curtis Bolton and receiver J'Mon Moore, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Didn't know they had jobs

Gotta give Belichick credit, he's going down swinging :rotf:

I hate seeing players and coaches end there career as losers, Bill should have retired when Brady left, he's got nothing left to prove, now it will get ugly.
