Ok so 2015 was by far the team’s worst draft class in the recent era and you’re using the grouts of that draft as a “e realistic” barometer.

That group also has far more *athletic* limitations than our current WR group.

That group also had fewer veteran players than our current WR group.

CB is also a position where you need a UNIT to step up more so than WR, which is likely the most individualized non specialist position in football, where we only need one or two guys to exceed expectations.

There’s just no way you can say “we know what we have” with our WRs. And there’s no rational basis to compare it to our literal worst draft outcome of the current generation as the most realistic outcome.

Well if you need to nitpick, sure.

We know what the expectations are going to be for the group, that sound better?

And the expectations are going to be the lowest on offense. If they falter, we can still win, because of our QB and RBs, and hopefully OL. If our QB, or OL have bad games, our WR's won't be able to lift us up and get us a win.

The expectations right now range between a bottom 10 unit and a top 5 unit for the OL, depending on our two all-pros and whether or not they play this year.

So we know what to expect from our WR's this year, I have no idea how our OL is going to play out, that is going to be the biggest deciding factor for our offense this year.

The common belief is that the Packers must upgrade the WR unit. I don't believe that or that the WR room is a mess.

1. We have 2 really good receiving RBs.
2. We have 1 great TEs, albeit coming off an injury and 2 promising ones.
3. Amari may surprise you. Only Greg Jennings did well as a rookie in AR Era. Adams, Jones, jordy and others struggled as rookies. Word is he worked really hard in
Jennings did well as a rookie because we used him, ever since McCarthy and his "we can't afford to make a mistake attitude took over" rookie receivers got snubbed, Cobb was probably the most ready to play receiver we've taken in the Rodgers era, yet McCarthy leashed him for a season, Adams also was a need to play guy and did alright as a rookie, Last year Lafluer tried to use Amari, but Amari wasn't up to the challenge, Lafluer isn't so ultra conservative, I expect big seasons from Doubs and Watson.

But like I said, if we get a healthy Bak and Jenkins back this year, with our RB's, with LaFleur, and with Rodgers, we can have a ton of success with this WR group. It just certainly won't look like past year. We aren't going to be asking these WR's to go win us a game.
sure we will, defense helps by keeping the score low, but typically they don't score points, and most defenses in the league can stop or slow the run to the point of limiting first downs, if ya can't pass, you usually lose.

I think this old idea that rookie WR's won't be counted on to produce is just that, old school thinking, and stems from McCarthy, no way Lafluer will adhere to that mindset, if Watson, Doubs, or Torri show ability, they will play and Rodgers will throw them the ball.

I think the doubt I here from DR J and others concerns Lazard and all this hype that he's about to break out like Nelson did, and imo he has never shown the ability that Jordy did, Jordy was held back because of the HC, not lack of ability

I agree if you can't pass you will likely lose. But our offense is going obviously going to look very different with Davante and a legit solid deep threat in MVS.

Who has the idea our rookies won't contribute? I certainly didn't. Never implied or mentioned it.

Not sure it was MM. I think it was more AR not trusting his rookies. He has made comments about being in right place at right time for the youngsters. And AR is soooooo careful with the ball.

I do believe Lazard will have a big year. AR trusts him and he did come up with some good/clutch catches given his limited opportunities when AR didn't throw to Adams. This year he will attract the defenses best CB, so he has that working against him.

I think we will run the ball more, at least early in the season.

I should have clarified that I wasn't referring to you specifically, but I've read several articles that compare Jordy's first 3 season to Lazards and while the numbers do compare, they came from ultra conservative McCarthy afraid Jordy would screw up, to Lazard under Lafluer and a weak receiver room unafraid of using the UDSFA Lazard, so some of us are skeptical of that comparison.

imho Rodgers got that attitude from McCarthy, as soon as he became coach he reeled in Favre, who was over impulsive with throws, and instilled a more cautious attitude.

consistent route timing helps Rodgers read his progressions, if receivers lack consistency obviously Rodgers will call them out or not throw to them, obviously some take more time to learn then others.

I seem to see Dean Lowry's name a lot.

It's like a light switch just flipped for him about last November or so.

Big year for him.

Contract year, gotta be competing for snaps, also this is the least amount of focus he'll probably ever see from opposing offences. Everything right there for him to have his best year.

Hopefully Danny Davis focuses on football and not screwing over the British Bulldogs again.

Better scheme fit, IMO. An attacking one-gap defense suits him a lot better than two-gap D requiring him to eat blocks, it just took a little readjusting.

*From yesterday....

I actually recently read that Quay Walker was asked about the value of learning under vets like Devondre Campbell, and then Walker named Gary as another vet who has been taken him under his wing.

He says that Gary told him that the middle linebacker needs to have swagger, so he told Walker to shout the calls when he makes them!

How cool is that?! You know I was a big proponent of Gary from Day 1, but that was mainly due to his crazy high ceiling. I had no idea he had this leadership ability, but man has it been awesome to see. :beer2:

What should I be looking for on Thursday at Training Camp? Love's passing accuracy? WR separation? Offensive line blocking?

Certainly not going to worry about the defenses ability to make plays, shove the offensive line around, etc.

Thoughts?

A Ringo scouting report of Love at practice would be cool
