BOTH of our strong safety draft picks sacked Caleb?!? That’s just funny.

I may not agree with picks Gutenbumst makes but I love his process. He identifies a weakness and attacks it the point where it won’t be a weakness going forward. It might be overkill but at least we know the hole is plugged.

I gotta say I am completely shocked we drafted 3 safeties, 2 ILBs, and a RB. We really focused on non premium positions which is a rarity for us.
Next draft I'm only mocking guys who were at the senior bowl and team captains. I'll get it 75% correct or better.

I'm not in love with our CB room. Lot of reliance on Valentine taking a step or Stokes not sucking which we haven't seen since 2021.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑27 Apr 2024 14:44biggest surprise of the draft haul is no pure corners
Otherwise, hard to complain.
Surprising number of adequate athletes instead of our usual elite ones, but if it comes with instincts and physicality, that's a nice counterbalance to what we have.
Good stuff, good stuff.
Like Lupe said, Gutey hammers the needs. The dude almost always telegraphs what we are going to do. Just maybe not the names we think.

I mean one of the reasons this offseason was exciting is because our primary needs are low value positions which are easier to fill. The weak draft classes at these positions balanced the equation a bit, but "we just need to find a RB, LB, and starting S is SO much easier than, like "we just need a starting OT and a QB and we're all set.

I’m personally a believer in Valentine and I do think Hafleys scheme will work a bit better for he and Stokes. And taking 2 safeties that fit the SS position a little better I think Bullard is going to get opportunities in the slot.
With 1 star CB, 2 capable boundary CBs, a decent nickel, and a versatile S who can play nickel I think we are fine at CB. You draft one page and sign a Ballentine type or something and you have plenty of depth.

we all liked Oladapo as a SS fit for us, we've added strength and depth at key position in this draft
we needed instinct and brains, think we got a bunch of that in these defensive picks

Jets took Stiggers. Fun pick
This guy didn't play college football. Went to the CFL and won rookie of the year. Entered the draft because no college, so not a free agent. Obviously needs a TON of work, but clearly has a nose for the ball and athletically hit all the boxes. Good developmental guy for a defensive-minded head coach to play with.

I'm thinking Edge, QB, and maybe a flyer on a WR. CB would be ok too.

Malik Washington to the Dolphins is annoying. Good grief.
