Lmao. I had never heard this. Damn, that's not a good look.Foosball wrote: ↑19 Jun 2022 21:43What I remember about Sherman is one year he kept saying if you want to win a championship, you have to go out and get it. You have to take it…..then against Philly’s tiring defense on 4th down Sherman elected to punt the ball.
So much for slogans. He didn’t have the guts to go for it.

What was the best Mike Sherman team?
Though our record was only 10-6, I think the 2003 team was still the best one. Just simply lost 3 games we had no business losing that year. The Chiefs comeback due to Favre giving away the game, the Eagles on the Monday night game where Ahman Green kept fumbling with those stupid black rubber arm sleeves and Favre only throwing to Dre Bly on Thanksgiving. That 2003 team was more like a 12-4 or 13-3 team. I still fully believe the Packers were the best team in the conference that January.
The 2001 team probably takes 2nd. Though 2002 was the best record, I think they were below what their record actually stated.
2004 was fun coming back from 1-4.

That 2004 defense was just bad. Wasn't that the year that that Panthers WR gave Ahmad Carroll a piggy back ride down the field? Or at least I thought it was the Panthers. I'd have to agree that the 2003 team was the best. That roster had a lot of star power and had the best chance at making a Super Bowl IMO.go pak go wrote: ↑20 Jun 2022 16:41What was the best Mike Sherman team?

I disagree. I think they are kind of a forgotten team. They were hammered by injuries down the stretch and that led to that horrible WC game. They played some really, really good football early on, though.

Sherman is a total blip on the radar. Weird topic. I think he may have been my ninth grade history teacher but so non descript I can't be sure.
I was pretty young in 2002. What were our injuries? I always thought 2003 was more of the injured season because we basically didn't have a QB for half the season.
Joe Johnson and Chad Clifton, of course, but also very beat up and old on the OL. I think Frank Winters missed time, Earl Dotson was in and out of the line up and then they were banged up in the secondary, as well, missing Darren Sharper down the stretch and Antuan Edwards (for whatever that is worth, he was our starting SS). I know they had a bunch of injuries against Atlanta in the playoff game, as well. The biggest was Donald Driver who couldn't finish the game.go pak go wrote: ↑22 Jun 2022 06:57I was pretty young in 2002. What were our injuries? Get real, Sherman could not over come Favres propensity for throwing game ending picks, he was a decent enough coach, he was simply in over his head as a GM, and 2004 draft sealed his fate, 5th winningest coach in team history.
Mike Sherman gets bit by not going for it on 4th down in Philly in 2003.
Mike McCarthy gets bit by not going for it on multiple 4th downs in Seattle in 2014
Mike McCarthy gets bit by not going for 2 in AZ after the Janis catch.
Matt LeFluer gets bit by not going for it on 4th down vs Tampa in 2020.
Is there an example where a Packers coach was aggressive and got bit in the postseason? Is there an example where a coach was conservative and didn't get bit?
Just seems like a poor trend.

the armchair beer guzzling fan always think they know more then the coaches, the GM, hell even the water boy is more football savoy then most fans.
if he doesn't punt, and fails to get a 1st down, then he shoulda punted, right
The offense failing to score in OT against Seattle in 2003 maybe falls in this category. Seahawks win the toss, Matt runs his mouth, they punt, and we do nothing on offense. Enter Al Harris.

Out of those examples, which would you say is the most egregious? I'd say McCarthy in Seattle.go pak go wrote: ↑22 Jun 2022 11:17Mike Sherman gets bit by not going for it on 4th down in Philly in 2003.

In hindsight, I think not going for 2 in AZ. After that throw to Janis (two throws, really), I defy Arizona to stop Rodgers from winning that in regulation.Captain_Ben wrote: ↑22 Jun 2022 14:18Out of those examples, which would you say is the most egregious? Yeah the fact that MM had sooooo many chances in 2014 to convert one of those FGs into a TD is a big miss. I think that was handled horribly.Captain_Ben wrote: ↑22 Jun 2022 14:18Out of those examples, which would you say is the most egregious? The Sherman was a big deal though too because of the volume of non-attempts on 4th and short. (wasn't there two of them?)
The 2015 AZ playoff game just didn't make any sense honestly. We were the clear underdogs. There was nothing to lose by going for it. We stole that game. Steal it completely. The longer we played AZ, the higher chance the better team wins. I thought that was incredibly stupid.
I think the MLF makes the most sense out of the bunch.
I would say from most stupid to least stupid:
1. 2014
2. 2003
3. 2015
4. 2020

Yeah I was at that game and remember being kind of pissed in real time. Cardinals fans were talking &%$@ about it too.NCF wrote: ↑22 Jun 2022 14:30In hindsight, I think not going for 2 in AZ. Cardinals fans (if there really are any authentic Cardinals fans) don't have much to talk about. Cardinals have won 2 championships in over 100 years of existence --> 1925 and 1947. The Cardinals left Chicago for St. Louis in 1960. Donny Anderson going to St. Louis in 1972 never felt good either. Sitting in the 106 degree heat at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe watching the Emmitt Smith rendition of the Phoenix / Arizona Cardinals with white jerseys beat the Favre-led Packers wearing their dark green jerseys was miserable as well.Captain_Ben wrote: ↑22 Jun 2022 15:52Yeah I was at that game and remember being kind of pissed in real time. Curly Lambeau coached the Cardinals in 1950 and 1951. Curly Lambeau then went on to coach the Redskins in 1952 and 1953.
1953 Washington Redskins Head Coach 6-5-1 0-0
1952 Washington Redskins Head Coach 4-8-0 0-0
1951 Chicago Cardinals Head Coach 3-9-0 0-0
