I am open to rethinking my stance on the value of any given position, but the argument that backup QBs are very important because they get the defense ready in practice each week is rather underwhelming. I haven't heard anything about Jordan Love shining in these moments, either.Waldo wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022 19:15But backup QB is and can be a hugely important contributor even without ever setting foot on the field. A lot of actual real practice for starters doesn't happen with #12 under center. The opponent that gets your defense ready each week is run by your backup QB.
Nothing makes a football run like a well oiled machine better than a good backup QB.
This is where Aaron really began to shine and where Jordan appears to doing so as well.
That's a lot more valuable than some dude that's going play a few ST plays a game but otherwise contribute little.
So what exactly makes Love better than your run-of-the-mill JAG backup -- that he has a starting-caliber arm unlike most of them? That would seem to largely be offset by the fact he doesn't read defenses well or have good ball placement like an actual starter. He's a good QB to practice against if Mike Glennon is the opposing signal-caller, but it's not like our defense is going up against Justin Herbert every week, much less Rodgers.
