Yeah, I was a Winfree guy, but Toure just looks like he has "it" as a receiver. A lot of people kept coming back to his draft status as a 7th to say he's being overrated while missing the fact that the kid can flat-out play.

As strong of a Winfree-on-the-roster advocate as I was, it was never a knock on Toure's upside. I specifically have said I could see him have an Adam Theilan-style rise and career.
My take was that the team needs more guys who can contribute right now, given the injury history of Watkins and Cobb, and that Toure isn't that guy yet.
I think I have been vastly under-estimating the PS rules' impact, no matter how many times [mention]NCF[/mention] tried to tell me it would change strategy. Rodgers said that if Winfree joins the PS (which he now has), there's a good chance he'll be elevated in the active 48 week one. He elaborated that there are guys on the active roster that should/will probably red shirt, and guys on the PS that are active-roster quality and will contribute. So the rules are really impacting that "48 versus 53 versus 69" roster in ways that numerous people anticipated and I just haven't come around to yet.

Just celebrated 1 year of retirement and we've been traveling all over. Heading to WI next week and sticking around until October so we can see some trees turning. The funny thing is, the first thread I open - and there was APB gripin about Crosby ! Some things never change
At any rate, super stoked about the 53 and the 69 and Packers prospects for 2022
Love the idea of moving guys up and back from PS and I think Gute will take advantage of that strategery. So you kinda have a "custom" roster each week depending on opponent. Some weeks, might elevate a 6th DL, other weeks you might want 4 RBs.
So our previous notions about how many are kept at each position are gonna change a bit.

The one spot that I am obsessing over is OLB 3. I feel like GB has # 1,2,4,5,6...but are missing 1 piece.
A more veteran pass rusher specialist. There's a couple of vets still out there, but not many that fit in the 3-4 edge role
The 9ers are deep and just cut loose an edge player- Kemoko Turay and I don't think he'd cost much.
I like Enagbare and Garvin, I just yearn for the vet savvy and he is a slightly different build. Something different for the offense to deal with.
He's a decent athlete and brings some attitude - but I don't know if he can run the arc

I was thinking about Turay, as well; isn't he a turd, personality-wise or something? Did I make that up? 9ers are really deep and talented on the DL, that's a big part of his release

Gute isn’t afraid to add that guy, not sure who that might be this time, like a Mercilus. But I 100% agree. Even if for piece of mind I would have loved a higher S, CB or Edge pick in the draft. 5th and 7th round give you no confidence.
I do try to get out of my own bias, cause we’ve had stacked edge and garbage ILB and average at best DL we he past forever. But remembering the SB year, it was good ILB, good DL, then Clay and Walden, Poppinga and Jones. So we are honestly considerably better now than then, imo.
But I don’t have a ton confidence in our depth edge, even if I like Enagbare and Garvin.
But safety, it’s like don’t even know who the back up is. Maybe Douglas? That’s a bit scarier for me, even if that position doesn’t rotate like edge.
I was hoping Shawn Davis and Vernon Scott would have that covered
But Safety has been quite the revolving door in August. Innis Gaines and Shawn Davis on are on IR, not sure if either or both can come back
One guy who I thought might fit is actually Kevin King, he could be a dime CB and back up FS
Can't have him at SS, but previously he had the ball skills to play centerfield. There are a few vet safeties out and about, but its tough to recruit when the best the Packers can offer is Safety 3 or 4.

With all of the uncertainty surrounding the preseason offensive line, I'm looking at history to provide some fresh perspective.
These are the lines that won it all:
2010 - Clifton, Colledge, Wells, Sitton, Bulaga.
1996 - Wilkerson, Timmerman, Winters, Taylor, Dotson.
Even with a healthy Bakh and Jenkins, how good can this line really be in 2022 compared to the 2010 and 1996 lines? Runyan, Myers, Newman?
These are the lines that won it all:
2010 - Clifton, Colledge, Wells, Sitton, Bulaga.
1996 - Wilkerson, Timmerman, Winters, Taylor, Dotson.
Even with a healthy Bakh and Jenkins, how good can this line really be in 2022 compared to the 2010 and 1996 lines? Runyan, Myers, Newman?

They've had little/no time together as a unit. Each of the parts are capable, they just need time to coalesce. Even the weak link- Newman at RG, is bigger/stronger and more mentally prepared than he was last year. Newman will also be flanked by 2nd yr Myers and Jenkins, instead of Lucas Patrick and a mix of Billy Turner/Dennis Kelley. Turner was quite good, but that's still an upgrade on both sides of Royce Newman.
I feel confident they'll be one of the top 7 OL groups by Halloween.
They've got a top- notch play caller, a savant at QB and the new OC is the former OL coach - all of those guys will make life "easier" for the OL.
2 stud RBs are nice to have as well.
I'm really looking forward to a slightly "different" yet potent Packers offense -
and the 2022 offensive line is plenty good enough to get them where they want to go.

IMO people underestimate what Josh Myers did last season and what he can be. To be able to take on a NT in the running game alone is very rare and he has the size and quickness to do it. To be smart enough to help a guard and still pick up a blitzing LB in the same play is also very rare. https://www.packers.com/video/rock-repo ... -sophomore JRJ is also a very good guard. Newman was a lot better at the end of last season than at the beginning and he has the physical attributes a guard/RT should have. Yeah i don’t think there is any reason to fret over having Myers on the roster over someone else. Myers did just fine for a rookie.

ST is still a disaster. I would have liked to see Christian Watson take a kickoff in pre season as the only other competent kickoff returner is on PUP. It will be interesting to see if the Packers use Cobb to field punts and play it safe or choose again between starting on their own 2 yard line or giving up a TD on a muff. Crosby still won't be able to kick into the EZ and the opposing team will be starting at the 40, on average. The punter needs to get hang time instead of outkicking the coverage. And I fear that the long snapper will sail one now and then.
Other than that, the Packers look pretty good. The D will have to give up less than 10 points and the O will have to be able to pick up first downs when they start at their own 2. I guess things will be OK if Bakh, Tonyan and Jenkins are 99%. I think the average D can shut down the combination of Lazard, Watkins and Cobb so the Packers desperately need either Doubs or Watson OR they need Jones and Dillon to stay healthy.
