I think by the end of the season everyone will be saying I hate Yoop, ) course that wont be a surprise( but I'am sure glad his prediction was balls on accurate, Love is really good, the OL gave him great protection and opened huge run lanes For Jones and Quadzilla as they bumped the 2K barrier again, the receivers and TE's did there duty to the tune of 3500 passing yrds.
Barry finally produces a whole season of competent Defensive strategy, and the players gain faith and buy into his schemes, the added DL talent forces opponent offenses to become one dimensional, finally we have a shut down top 10 defense.
please do not disturb, it's meal time, the menu is road kill Bear and Lion and left over Neanderthal man from the north country
I will not curb my appetite for a winning season till 2024

I've got pretty low expectations tbh, and I think there is a decent chance some of yall are getting way ahead of yourselves with all this "we should win the division in 2023" talk.
We could be good or even better than 2022 because Rodgers was sort of below average last season so if Love is even league average then it would stand to reason that we might improve from last year. But that being said, I am not going to get my hopes up because we have been spoiled with 30 years of HOF QB play and yearly competitiveness, and the chances simply are not very good that Love becomes what his predecessors were.
And there are always growing pains with a team like this, plus we have this one year of terrible cap where we can't sign anybody. Still have underwhelming weapons on offense, and even if it turns out that all WRs from the last 2 drafts become HOFs, they won't get there overnight.
One thing we did in the early TT era that I really liked was load up on draft picks, and we did it again this year. Also as we have discussed ad nauseam, we weren't going to win anymore with Rodgers in the near future so might as well move on now. So I am happy with the trajectory overall. But this season, I don't have any expectations other than showing flashes and not being like #1 overall pick levels of bad.

Number one overall pick and drafting Caleb Williams would be nice thotexas wrote: ↑15 May 2023 14:00I've got pretty low expectations tbh, and I think there is a decent chance some of yall are getting way ahead of yourselves with all this "we should win the division in 2023" talk.

Idk, I usually don't like system QBs from OU, Ohio State, Alabama, or USC. And he's been at 2 of those so he's like double the bust potential.Drj820 wrote: ↑15 May 2023 14:24Number one overall pick and drafting Caleb Williams would be nice thotexas wrote: ↑15 May 2023 14:00I've got pretty low expectations tbh, and I think there is a decent chance some of yall are getting way ahead of yourselves with all this "we should win the division in 2023" talk.

I think GB will win about games this season and I think will be competitive in most games this season. 8 could end up as 5/6 with some bad luck, and maybe 10/11 with some good luck. I do expect to watch without any expectations of postseason, and hopefully will be pleasantly surprised.
I think we find out how good of a coach Lafleur is this season. We def have the roster to win a lot of games in a weak division, weak conference, and playing the nfc south.
We have a big time question mark at QB. He could be great, good, average, bad, or terrible…but we know what we have in almost every other spot. And a good coach would be able to negotiate this schedule just relying on what we know we have.
What we have:
1) a solid to good OL
2) two great RBs
3) returning ascending WRs
4) tons of new resources poured into STs, and a premiere STs coach
5) 8 first round picks on defense and a DC hand picked by the HC
These 5 things are PLENTY for a good coach to compete in a bad division and at least secure a 6 or 7 seed in a conference with like 1-2 elite qbs
I look forward to seeing how Lafleur and his staff performs

Agree that it will be something of a litmus test for LaFleur. QB should not be that much of a question mark, in theory. Love is 3 years in the league, in the same system. And the front office just dumped Aaron Rodgers, allowing him the chance to be the starter. I think it's reasonable to expect his play to be at least average for an NFL starter.Drj820 wrote: ↑15 May 2023 16:27I think we find out how good of a coach Lafleur is this season. I will say that I do understand the MLF evaluation sentiment, given how last year went.
But generally, around the NFL, a coach working with a first-time starter at QB is given MORE leniency and a longer leash than one working with a more experienced starter. The idea that MLF and Love have to find immediate success as an evaluation tool for either of them flies in the face of more typical NFL logic. Coaches and QBs are usually given time together.
Now, if it's a diasaster, this doesn't stand. If it all blows up and looks terrible, you want to get a new coach for your QB or a new QB for your coach or both asap to restart the process. But usually, yeah one of a coach-QB pairing isn't the time people look for either to "sink or swim."

This isn’t a normal or status quo transition though. WE shipped the former starter off, we’ve groomed the new starter for THREE years, the new starter is a first rounder, we drafted rookie receivers last year so they would be prepared for this year, we’ve loaded the defense up and the STs up.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑15 May 2023 17:13I will say that I do understand the MLF evaluation sentiment, given how last year went.

Point being, I’m not saying I expect a SB or Lafleur sucks. I’m
Saying that Lafleur has the tools needed to win in a manner that doesn’t rely on love to be great at all. Love just needs to not be a saboteur.
I’d love isn’t a saboteur, I look forward to seeing if Lafleur can call offensive plays that hide him from exposure, can generate complimentary football, can beat the tons of average teams we will play, etc

Yeah makes sense. I’m not sure we’re disagree by much if we do at all. I just wanted to throw out a caveat to itDrj820 wrote: ↑15 May 2023 18:01

6-11 or better.
Palmy - "Very few have the ability to truly excel regardless of system. For many the system is the difference between being just a guy or an NFL starter. Fact is, everyone is talented at this level."
This schedule just looks so manageable to me. Like we should absolutely have a winning record by the bye week. 3-2 at worst.
The last 5 games are all very winnable if love is just competent
After the bye you got denver, okay maybe Payton fixes russ Wilson?? But are we sure??
Then minnesota and the rams. Both don’t really scare me at all. But we could easily go 1-1 there.
Then we get Kenny Pickett and the Steelers, like why shouldn’t I expect we win that game? Kenny sucks.
Then I’d say you got three games you could easily lose. Chargers, lions, and chiefs. But that’s the only tough stretch I see in the whole schedule.
I mean the last 5 weeks are soft a charmin bath tissues.
I gotta see it as a failure of the plan to transition if we just win 6 games.
I think 8-9 is the minimum I accept as “not a failure”.
Would love to get to 9-8 and see what happens.

Remember that JB is still DC.
This is one of the first seasons in eons where I have no clue what to expect! We are all hoping for a winning record (and in this division it isn't out of the question) but when you have a young QB in his first year starting who knows??

First time starting QB. Very, very young and inexperienced but highly drafted group of pass catchers. Eight, yes 8, first round picks on a defense coordinated by Barry. A new kicker after Mason’s 16 years on the job. The easiest schedule heading into a season that I can recall. The weakest overall NFC that I can remember and three other NFC North teams that all have serious issues.
Quite the interesting mixture heading into 2023.
As a first year starter, Rodgers went 6-10 with a team coming off an NFC Championship game appearance.
My expectation is between 6-8 wins in 2023.
I mostly hope for a lot of development from the young players.

I guess I expect something similar to Rodgers's first year, especially with how the offseason has followed an eerily similar script, our legendary star QB being shipped to the Jets.
So I can see a scenario where the team's record is not stellar, but it's nonetheless encouraging because we see promising play and competitive games from the young team.
I can also see Barry being the new Bob Sanders, but I feel like our defense has a higher floor than it did in 2008 by virtue of the sheer loads of talent they have, and the fact that MLF seems to intervene and make Barry stop doing whatever stupid stuff he starts the year doing.

My opinion is that if Gary returns to form mid season and Stokes fulfills the promise that he showed as a rookie and one of the 2 TE's is a competent starter, the Packers will be just fine, even if Love is barely average. Stokes playing well lets Rasul move to slot/safety.
Gary and Stokes are the difference between 5-12 and 9-8. Reed and one of the TE's can bump that to 11-6 and a playoff win. Love being better than average can bump that to the division (12-5) and 2 playoff wins. quite a range from 5-12 to 12-5

Expanding on this, I want to see a few things to deem the season a "success." I am not going to draw some arbitrary win total line in the sand and say unequivocally that the season is a failure if we don't meet or exceed that total. Here are the things I want to see:
Defense takes a step toward being a top 10 defense. Front 5 is aggressive and plays fundamentally sound against the run. ILBs take a step with Campbell rounding back to form for 2021 and Walker hitting his stride in run defense. Corners being the strength of the defense, player hardnosed coverage. Safeties just don't get cooked too often. If all else goes well and the safeties are the lynch pin to why we didn't hit that top 10 mark, then I am OK with that. I want to see Barry scheme to his player strengths.
Love needs to look similar to Rodgers 2008. Make decent decisions, sling the ball, run the offense, use legs when necessary. He doesn't need to light the world on fire, but need to see things that give hope of a progression toward top QB play.
Offensive line and running backs need to be the rock of the offense. Along with that, LaFleur needs to get back to the 2019/2020 offense. More script, less improv, scheme guys open. Play chess not checkers.
WRs/TEs improve as the season goes on.
Special Teams continue the upward trend. Don't settle for mediocre replaceable players. Cut them and cycle through until we find the guy.
