I am surprised how hung up you get over one year. ONE YEAR. Especially because you are such a Ron Wolf disciple. Ron said himself the best time to draft a quarterback is when you don't need one.
when Ron retired the leading reasons he gave besides taking care of his Ill wife was how UFA was changing the game making it harder to keep talent, I don't have as big a issue grooming QB's as much as I do grooming other positions, I want my high picks starting at some point as a rookie, or early 2nd year.
your always quick to talk contracts dollars, well a big part of my reasoning is maxing out there rookie contract, so years matter, we got roughly 2.5 years of production on Gary's 5 year rookie contract, thats not enough for me, specially in light of what LVN has done, or Enabar, Brooks as a rookie, Wyatt year 1, or Walker, I could go on, you get the point.

I think you need to consider that Gary just turned 26 years old. Cap hit is going to be affected by cap inflation (along with inflation or all other prices) so he was still great draft pick even if, as you say, he only earned 2.5 years on his rookie contract.
But we digress. I agree with Go Pack Go when he said "As for the Jets pick, Guard, slot CB, safety and RB are areas I am targeting."
And I don't see the need to trade up. If the safety we want is gone, there will be a RG, a slot CB or a RB. It is not impossible to draft a center and move Myers to RG either,
