I think division games have so much weight they should be held off a few weeks. A team can get knocked out of winning the division if the first 3 weeks are division games. Let teams get their feet under them, rather than waste games against rivals early, when people will watch anything because they haven't had anything in six months.
First five games should all be the non-conference.
All least important for tie breakers. Give a bit more of an edge to teams finishing the year strong, vs those trying to limp in.

Yep, the commissioner's job these days is to make the owners happy and keep the gravy train rolling. Long gone are the days of Rozelle, or even Tagliabue to some extent, who had to keep the owners in line.
