I dont think there is a conspiracy theory with his touches. He will be needed down the stretch. Give me 3 backs with fresher legs then 1. That is all. This team has bought into the ultimate goal not personal gains.

I have no problem with jones wanting to get as much as he can. Its a business and we got bis max on pennies. Rbs dint last long and I get why they want to be payed. Right now though its about winning and this team isnt going to let this be a distraction.

I would go to Miami if I was Jones. They got money and they would actually use him. Offense is humming just fine, so tough to complain...but this offense has shown it would rather use short passes, than pound the rock. Despite anything Lafleur has said with his mouth. I’m team Jones. He’s been mistreated a bit here, mostly by McCarthy...and he’s had a good attitude and played for pennies. I hope he gets rich rich and sets his family up for generations.

10 touches Sunday, why would a RB like Jones stick with a team that gives him 10 touches, seems obvious the FO is limiting Jones in hopes to be able to curtail his contract demands, he hired Rosenhous because his last agent wasn't forceful enough, Jones is probably history now.
This part is sarcasm, right? I'm sure Jones wants to be a feature back. I don't doubt he knows that may not happen in GB. But if he didn't want to stay he wouldn't be going through all this trouble to negotiate and stay. He's trying to get what he wants and stay with the Packers, plain and simple. None of us know what that is (but I imagine its a lot).

FO limiting Jones touches is ridiculous. Call me naive, but I seriously doubt that is happening. If anyone is limiting him, it's LaFluer. But that's only because Williams has become a tremendous blocker in the pass game.
no, I'am simply echoing what Leroy Butler said, and he admited it's just a opinion, very few passes to Jones and limited run touches, and Jones has shown to be a very good blocker, just as good as Williams.

If I where Jones i'd rather not get tagged, I'd expect he wants a 3 year extension, obviously he's upset with contract negociations hense the hiring of Rosenhuas, how did the Packers respond (team probably had a idea this was happening last week) they gave him 10 touches, just a coincidence? I doubt it.
Ah, made up facts vs. real facts. He had 17 touches which is very much on par with how he has been used all season. 11 games, 160 rushes and 38 receptions. For all you kids doing maths at home, that works out to 18 touches per game.

I will say, though, in the two games that he played in where he didn't get at least 15 touches, the Packers lost (TB and Indy).

Leroy lied. he said 10 touches, I didn't bother to even look it up, my bad for listening to Butler, 15 rushes and 2 passes, your right.

I agree with J though, Jones has been limited this season, and not just do to injury, hope we can keep him.

Exactly and that is the rub. We are best when he is involved. Really the only 2 backs in the league with significantly more touches are Henry & Cook, Just to be totally accurate we should look at rushing attempts and targeted receptions to see how they are using him. It is close to 20/game and I would like to see it at 25 if we have to pay him big bucks.

Yup.

Jones' limited touches also means limited toll on the body, and that can be very good for him at the negotiation table.

I do hope we ride him hard in the playoffs. Williams has been good enough to earn his snaps, Jones is great.

He has 51 targets on the season, which puts him at 19 rushes + targets/game. He was at or above 20 in the first four games with a season high 26 in Week 2. 15 at Tampa, then missed two games. Since coming back, 20, 19, 14, 19, 18, & 18. Remarkably consistent, although it does seem like LaFleur backed off, just a touch, from what he was doing in September.

And probably good not to listen to Leroy too closely. I don't know if he's gotten better, but he used to spout some pretty ridiculous stuff. Not much of a wonder why he never got a coaching job.

Oh, and AJ Dillon is going to James Starks the hell out of the playoffs this year!

I possibly mis understood him, I was multi tasking and I'am 73 yrs old

I still think this is Jones last season as a Packer, maybe Lafluer is trying to keep him fresh for the playoff run, but 13 to 17 run touches a game is not enough to keep a RB in tune with his blocking, Jones has looked his best with 20 run touches.

I said this same stuff when McCarthy limited Lacy his 2nd season, now did that lead to Lacy loosing interest and gaining 30 lbss? who can say, however we all know incentive is increased when a player feels depended upon, it's the same with a persons job, no decent RB would ever appreciate being utilized so sparingly.

Honestly, Jones loves the heck out of GB and this move may signal that he wants a deal done asap or that he has accepted they aren't going to get him the money he wants and he's ready to maximize.

But it does not signal any sort of bad blood. I have no doubt about Jones' love of GB. He's having a blast. He's not upset about his touches while we're winning. He's not trying to cause a stir. He's going about business on and off field.

I actually had this thought, too. Like, Rosenhaus isn't getting him a top of the market deal tomorrow, so maybe take a 2-year extension and give Rosenhaus and Team a chance to get a better deal done in the still very near term.

hope you guys are right, I think Rosenhaus is liked as a agent from plenty of teams, he has a reputation for getting deals done more so then not, it really comes down how much Jones is willing to take to stay a Packer, sure it sure seems like he's happy here.

to be honest he does look like he needs some rest, looked a bit slow at first when he bounced it out for a short run last week, who knows, I just want to keep Jones and I'd like to see him touch it more, and he probably will, I'll never trust Leroy again :thwap:

Rosenhaus gets the evil agent reputation because his guys seem to get the best deals, or at least the most talked about ones.
I happen to be a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, and they've signed guys that Rosenhaus represents. And they're not exactly known for throwing big money around. If they can work with him, I'm sure the Packers can.

Yeah, I'm hopeful that his usage is that we are attempting to keep him fresh for the playoffs, when we'll ride him hard. When he's busting out, our offense goes from 'Best in the league' to 'Doesn't matter how the defense plays' mode.

Yes, very very true. When Aaron Jones is on his game and healthy, the offense lights up the scoreboard.

I'll never buy the notion of keeping a player fresh for the playoffs unless its Game 16 with nothing to play for. In pro football, the teams should be going full blast on every play in every game with their best players on the field (unless its a blowout and offense no longer needs to be on the field). So I don't see any justification for keeping Aaron Jones on the bench much unless there is a health issue or a need to put Williams in for some situational play that requires Williams' skill over Jones' skill. If I was the opposing team defense I'd always want to know where Aaron Jones is lined up........not so much for Jamaal Williams or Swervin' Ervin. Certainly not for Dillon #38 (at least just yet ......... I am so much hoping that Dillon becomes a John Riggins some day).

Listen ....... It's still a 60 minute game -- Walter Payton, John Riggins and John Brockington didn't get platooned off the field. Dorsey Levens and Edgar Bennett got platooned with William Henderson for situational purposes, not to keep 'em fresh (during the 1996 season when the Packers won it all). Dorsey Levens was a great horse runner and had great receiving skills (as does Aaron Jones). Edgar Bennett was a very reliable mudder. With both Bennett and Levens in the backfield at the same time (with William Henderson platooned off) ........ the Packers offense was very dangerous.

I still don't understand why MLF can't figure out how to light up the offense with both Dillon and Jones in the backfield. :argue:

I agree, which is why I'm not convinced that we're 'just saving him for the playoffs'.

Edit: But I guess the more that I look at it, the less odd his usage looks when you compare it to last year.

In 2019, he averaged 14.75 rushes/game for 4.59 YPC. This year, it's 14.5 for 5.1 YPC.

In 2019, he averaged 4.25 targets/game for 6.97 yds/target . This year, it's 3.45 targets/game for 5.59 yds/target.

Those numbers really aren't all that different from a usage standpoint. YPC is up because he busted a few long ones this year, and yards/target is down probably because he hasn't played KC and DAL this year.

Overall though, while it feels like he's not getting used as much, it's basically just one target/game less than last year. So should we really expect much different from Jones the rest of the year?
