From Lambeau to Lombardi, Holmgren, McCarthy and LaFleur and from Starr to Favre, Rodgers and now Jordan Love we’re talking Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers football. This Packers Forum is the place to talk NFL football and everything Packers. So, pull up a keyboard, make yourself at home and let’s talk some Packers football.
I mention this kind of stuff and I get put on probation we've needed a slot receiver since Cobb left, why is it Rodgers one of the best to ever play, and the savior year after year to get us to the playoffs gets a bunch of mid round or UDFA receivers to play with, there are people in this forum that blame him as part of this loss, if only he had ran it in, if only he had seen this other receiver that was open.
the love pick and lack of a receiver taken seemed like punishment for Rodgers complaining the year prior, Guty sure showed him who's boss. insanity.
I truly believe the Love pick was Gutey trying to come out of the shadow of his predecessors. Wolf got Favre. TT got Rodgers. Gutey thought Rodgers was done because he played above average with a poor supporting cast in the 1st year of brand new offense. He didnt have the foresight to think maybe Rodgers and the offense would improve with another year under its belt. I think it was MM, and Ive heard it from other coaches and GMs, that it takes 2 years to successfully install a scheme. Just a man and his ego.
You can have the balls to take a QB but it only matter if he shows up. IMO if youre giving up on your QB the next one needs to be better before you decide to move on and I find it hard to believe the next QB is going to be better than the best of all time.
Guteys drafts have overall been horrible so no telling if it was sabotage, strategy, or just incompetence. The guy has given us Jenkins and Jaire in the great category and Savage and MVS in the good category in three years. Did I miss anybody?
Gutey has been good at filling out the bottom of the roster through the wire and “showing interest” in deals, but we are getting out in the deep end of his tenure where we can really judge bc the packers can’t pay the 2020 staples that TT brought us forever.

What is a draft success in your mind? Gutey has had 3 drafts. Given what they've done so far and draft position, I put them like this
Great players - Jaire, Jenkins,
Good players - Gary, Savage, MVS, Martin
Too early to tell, but could be good - Anyone from 2020 draft, Keke, Sternberger
Gary and Savage could both move into that great category. If Jaire and Jenkins stay the way they are, you could put them in an Elite category.
Could there have been more from his drafts, sure. But 4 potential great players and several more good, and plenty to wait and see. I do not call Gutey's drafts horrible. How many teams get a couple of good players and that's it? I think your (and most peoples') expectations are far too high. The "bust" rate in the NFL is high. Get used to the fact that most of the people drafted have 2-4 year careers and suck.
Gary Savage and even MVS could change the picture FAST on Gute's success as a drafter. If they all take that next step in 2021....Gute will be a bonafide draft genius.
this thread is falling pretty quickly into past instead of future...
I'm a little hazy on what the question in the original post is trying to ask.
I think it's saying that last year the WR group was the position that everyone thought we NEEDED to upgrade, we DIDN'T upgrade, and it turned out ok (the debate over that is fair--whether the WRs exceeded expectations or whether we simply had a system that asked little enough of them to succeed without improvement, but isn't the core point.)
So are we asking what the clearest NEED group is this time around?
Or are we asking which clear need are we most likely to stand pat and mostly ignore at least in the draft?
I think the OL group is the one that we could most afford to stand pat with despite the overall thought that we need reinforcements. But it isn't as clear or glaring a need as WR was last year. Even if Bakh misses the beginning of the season, I could see re-signing Lane Taylor to a near-minimum deal and going:
Jenkins - Runyan - Patrick - Lane Taylor - Turner
...for a couple weeks before Bakh gets back and Jenkins slides back inside. We lined up at least 11 different alignments last year and succeeded. The coaching staff, scheme, and personnel are largely unchanged. We don't want to press our luck or anything, but we have guys who can execute this scheme plus we still need to see what we have in the iOL guys we drafted last year who are depth pieces.
Now, I don't WANT that to be the case; I'd like to add a C and a RT in the 3rd-5th range.
DT is probably, as others have said, maybe the most likely to see us stand pat despite a need just because of the lack of options. The draft could easily fall in a way that gives us no value at the position.
