Texans going all in.

Why would you waste a penny on anybody who isn't going to be on the team in 3 years. Sign some youth, resign some guys, or just sit on your cap money and carry it over.

It's weird how people make this link as if Corey Davis didn't look like a draft bust in MLF's offense and then break out in Arthur Smith's....

Hate to say it, but I'd almost be fine taking that 2nd round pick if we get him, just turn around and got get like Zack Ertz for a 4th.
Ertz is a maybe, but there are other positions more needy for that 4th rounder. He's over 30 and might need $5 M or more. He doesn't know this offense, so you're losing 1/2 season while he figures it out. The Packers already tried that approach with Cook/Bennett/Graham. I would not take a mid/low 2nd for Tonyan mainly because there isn't a viable replacement for him (in the draft) who can produce in 2021 and 2022. Even the plug n play guys that went top 10 ( Hockenson) have not fully learned how to be an NFL TE just yet. Its an incredibly steep climb to learn the passing game AND the running game at TE - and both are critical in the MLF offense.

I would sign Tonyan to a club-favorable deal and not let another team put together a crappy structure that GB can't / won't match as an RFA. We're going on a run here, a veteran TE like Tonyan is wayyyy more useful now than any TE drafted in 2020 or 2021. I'm guessing GB could get him to agree to a decent deal now, waiting will only cost more. I don't subscribe to the "only one good year" stuff either - Tonyan's improved each season in the league and this trajectory is exactly what you'd hope to see for a developing player - especially one switching from WR to TE. Not sure why that would be used against him - and once he puts together 2-3 years of consistent production, he likely costs too much.

Why find and develop a TE for somebody else ? Remember: Detroit let Tonyan go and then spent a top 10 pick on Hockenson and a boatload $$ on Jesse James, only to cut James after $ 11 million in salary poured down the drain. For those reasons, Tonyan is a keeper to me, others feel differently. 8-)

I mean, we are gaining a 2nd in this scenario.

And I want to keep him too, you are using the 'ol yoop straw man here. Nobody doesn't want to keep him. Many of us just think the 2nd round level is adequate, we all love him, but there are definitely reason other NFL teams might not be as bullish and offer fair open market $$ and a 2nd rounder. TE's don't get traded for high picks often. RFA's with draft values assigned to them never switch teams.

We could have the chance to match the contract, restructure it if we need, or get a very nice parting gift of a 2nd round pick.

I put a 2nd on and 99.9% chance he is playing in GB.

I definitely want to keep Tonyan for the long haul, but I don't want to unnecessarily pay a premium for him, either.

You can tell it's going to be a drab offseason when almost all the conversation centers around a RFA tender and the decision to give a player a pay cut with incentives rather than cut him.

Name the last time a restricted free agent switched teams. Name three examples of it happening. :dunno:

This Tonyan thing is not an issue.

One CB off the market, I'm guessing makes this more likely Sherman will be free for the taking. I'd take him here.

The Patriots are behaving really odd IMO. All this big defensive FA spending just seems very strange when you consider their offense was 27th in yards last year and they just re-signed Cam to once again lead them to more turnovers and punts.

Cam signed what amounts to a backup deal. He may start, but I expect them to address QB still.
