I mean I don't think we are any more prepared than we were last year. We had 3 starting tackles last year. We have 3 again this year.Yoop wrote: ↑30 Jul 2021 06:35Bahk missing the Tampa game is one of the main reasons we lost that game, bringing aboard a quality T gives us insurance that wont happen again, I expect he'll start at LT and then move to the right side when Bahk is ready to play, he's massive, add Lewis and our outside stretch runs should be even more successful, well done Guty.
I'm not necessarily certain that Turner won't end up going back to LT once Kelly gets more in the fold.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑30 Jul 2021 08:54I think we're also more prepared this year in that we experimented with Turner at LT last year and know that's not the move; so we're getting Jenkins lots of LT reps and will focus on him being the Bakh replacement in a pinch this year. And he's clearly going to be more prepared for that role this year than last year, making us as a team and unit more prepared.
I also think Ben Braden and Royce Newman count as being more prepared.
Thanks for the article snippets but just because those two guys couldnt stop JPP and Shaq does not mean they cant play LT or RT. Those are two of the top pass rushers in the league, especially when you pass every play and they dont have to think about run. I also felt like we never gave those two guys much help in the game. Why was Marcedes going out for passes instead of staying in to pass block? Why did I see play after play no one staying in to chip or at least try to help the tackles on the rush? Those kinds of things.Yoop wrote: ↑30 Jul 2021 09:17RT Rick Wagner: He had major problems with Shaq Barrett for much of the contest. The Bucs edge rusher has an explosive first step, decent power and a devastatingly effective inside spin move. He kept mixing up the rushes to keep Wagner on his heels and off-balance. Of Barrett’s three sacks, two were directly the result of beating Wagner’s block attempt. And both came on third down, ending drives.
LT Billy Turner: The Packers finally missed All-Pro David Bakhtiari. Twice, Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul beat Turner for sacks, including one late in the first half that started an unstoppable spiral of critical mistakes. Pierre-Paul won with a crafty inside-out move on the first sack and used pure power to go right through Turner on the second. The Bucs edge rusher also had two stops for no gain against the run.

good to refresh our memory's, Rodgers rarely had time to finish reading his route progressions, and had to get rid of the ball to the first receiver to separate which usually was Adams, as good as Turner was last year neither he or Wagner did well against Pierre-Paul or Barrett, I think Kelly will get every oppertunity to win the RT job.
Mercedes was a stud, he didn't go out for a pass on every pass play, but every time he did Barrett had Wagner for lunch.Drj820 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2021 09:23Thanks for the article snippets but just because those two guys couldnt stop JPP and Shaq does not mean they cant play LT or RT. Bahk probably could have done a decent job handling those beasts by himself, but you wont find many more in the league who can. And we dont face too many combos of pass rushers like that throughout the year.
I just read your snips, but ya I know marcedes is a stud, Im just saying in a game where you are compensating for an injury to Bahk and facing a pass rush like that, Marcedes should NEVER be going out for a pass. he should be helping every play!Yoop wrote: ↑30 Jul 2021 09:32Mercedes was a stud, he didn't go out for a pass on every pass play, but every time he did Barrett had Wagner for lunch.Drj820 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2021 09:23Thanks for the article snippets but just because those two guys couldnt stop JPP and Shaq does not mean they cant play LT or RT. did you read the article or just the snips?
and we may not face as good of edge rushers every game, but you need to expect to and have tackles prepared to win those matchups or your QB will never have time to allow guys like Lazard to clear.
I think Mercedes did his part, in fact buried Barrett on a key run play, thing is ya can't keep everyone in to help Turner and Wagner on every play, but we probably should have done so more then we did, heres a snip on Mercedes I know your probably making some very important decisions on the job with your boss watching everything you bring up on your PC, the constable's monitor everything now days.Drj820 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2021 09:37I just read your snips, but ya I know marcedes is a stud, Im just saying in a game where you are compensating for an injury to Bahk and facing a pass rush like that, Marcedes should NEVER be going out for a pass. he should be helping every play!Yoop wrote: ↑30 Jul 2021 09:32Mercedes was a stud, he didn't go out for a pass on every pass play, but every time he did Barrett had Wagner for lunch.Drj820 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2021 09:23

But ya you would hope to have a plan where you can stop elite pass rushes, but the new guy or Turner will be Bahks backup once he comes back, so we have a plan for those scenarios and that plan is to play a healthy Bahk who is paid to stop those types of pass rushers by himself. If Bahk isnt available I think the options we have on the roster right now are good options for backups, just expect to have to give them some help if we face a pass rush like the Bucs. Anyteam would when you have a backup at the position. We just pretended Bahk was out there i guess.

That will be interesting to see how they do that alignment.
Kelly is a right tackle. So I wouldn't be shocked if they put Turner at LT. Have Kelly be your backup/swing RT and then keep Jenkins on the interior.
Not saying this is how I want it. But we also have very little to go off if Jenkins would be good at LT. Ultimately, I think its best for his development if we can keep him an inside only guy.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑30 Jul 2021 11:26well look who called itgo pak go wrote: ↑30 Jul 2021 08:59I'm not necessarily certain that Turner won't end up going back to LT once Kelly gets more in the fold.

Zero sacks is impressive in 16 starts.BSA wrote: ↑02 Aug 2021 13:26from Packers Talk
"Kelly enters his 10th season in the NFL after playing for the Eagles from 2012-2015 and the Titans from 2016-2020.
He started all 16 games at right tackle for the Titans in 2020, successfully allowing zero sacks.
The veteran has played over 3400 snaps in his ten seasons but was never looked at as a #1 right tackle until last year after the Titans lost Jack Conklin to free agency. Besides adding stability, Kelly brings an infectious personality, coveted leadership, and size that offensive line coaches dream about to the Packers locker room."
Word has it that Elgton Jenkins has been an absolute stud at LT so far. We will see how he does when the pads come on.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑02 Aug 2021 15:20Zero sacks is impressive in 16 starts.BSA wrote: ↑02 Aug 2021 13:26from Packers Talk

The Packers have depth at center and guard and RT. Maybe great depth. Unfortunately they have only 1 player who has ever successfully played LT, Bakh. The idea that Turner can be adequate at it is disproved by his previous attempts at it.
No player starts in a vacuum. A veteran starter might be marginally better than the 2 rookie contract players he is competing with but if he make 4 mil more than either of those rookie contract players and the team is as salary-cap-tight as the Packers, it should be an easy decision.
fyi, Kelly was a salary cap cut. He was not a FA, he was cut after a very good season simply because his team could not afford him.
