I think it's completely fair to criticize Guty on this, tho I'd remind that he DID manage to fix the safeties and the slot in one fell swoop, so it's not like he ignored the secondary this off-season. The injuries of Jaire, the regression of Stokes and lack of leveling up by other have left the boundary weakish.

As evidenced by the Malik trade, Guty's not against trading for players when there's a need, so I suspect there were no good value trades for starting level corners available. I will never blame a GM for not doing desperation overpays for need. Our window is just creaking open, it's not all-in time yet.
Guty has the right perspective; short term pain for long term gain. He won't spend a 4th for a guy likely to only stay here a year. I agree with him.
How many super bowls in the gute era?
Point me to a relevant question. This is a very good squad. Nobody can say otherwise. The rings might or might not come. That is very hard to accomplish, especially when a dynasty (Chiefs) is hogging the rings.

Let anybody suggest that Guty has not accumulated a top tier team, especially over the period of his tenure. The question to that is already settled.

I only listened to the game, since I was on the road. But I'm wondering:

1. Where has Reed gone since we started giving more attention to Doubs?
2. Watson almost disappeared on catching the ball. (I have no doubt that he does his share of blocking.)
3. Clark got himself a fumble recovery. Take the wins wherever you can.
4. Can't say enough about Jacobs. Maybe he gets even more value in December/January?
5. More evidence that we are cleaning up our penalty problems.
6. I would still like to see if we can find one more player who can create turnover, besides X. A random guy will pop up, like Nixon yesterday. But what if Quay would get his hands on the ball more and start catching them.
7. Seems like we are still leaving points on the field. But you can't argue about 4 out of 4 RZ successes.

Surprised by how bad our Dline was yesterday in terms of lining up in the neutral zone. We got caught twice but frankly could have been a lot more for the fortunate fact our guys recognized it right before snap and jumped back a bit.

It was wild how bad we were at lining up on defense.

It's interesting that you bring up Reed. I really thought he was going to elevate his game from Year 1 to Year 2. Actually, this is my biggest concern at the moment with what otherwise looks like a team on the cusp of making a deep playoff run. The WR's (other than Doubs), have all seem to have taken either a step back or are even to last year. Mostly surprised by Wicks as I thought he was going to be the guy, and with Reed, I just expected more like 5-6 catches per game. Watson, I would say is about even to last year with less injuries, so that's a bright spot.

Man I question Walker's grade. Definitely started being in the right spot more but he needs to finish the play. I only give an elite grade if you finish the play. Make the sack on the first drive. Catch the interception that is in your hands.

Thought Bullard was chef's kiss yesterday. Thought Williams was also chef's kiss outside the TD to Kittle but that was also just a great play to Kittle.

Was encouraged with our edge Dline for the excpetion they just need to finish better.

my jaw dropped when Walker watched as Kittle ran by and Williams was forced to pick up that coverage, instead of fronting up Kittle which would have thrown off timing on his route, which would have made Wliiams job at least easier, he slid over to cover a receiver already doubled up :thwap: , and PFF gives him a elite grade, the guy plays like a robot at times

Wasn't it 3 days ago you had 4 pages of rants saying he was good and the forum is unfair to him because he has a lot of tackles?

The Walker thing is interesting.

1. Walker's TFL - a positive play for Walker on the stat but he missed the sack, let the QB evade and then lucks out with Gary punching the ball out throwing the play out of wack and letting Walker mistake into the TFL.

2. Walker's dropped INT - Quay will get credit for a Pass Defended but more importantly dropped an interception right in his hands that could have stopped the drive (did the 9ers end up scoring on that drive?)

These two plays are shown as positives on the stat sheet but frankly I think both plays should almost be negatives because Quay had the play to be made and yet didn't make the play.

could be tougher for Jacobs, Detroit is 5th stopping the run, and I am hoping the blocking is as good as this week, It's high time Love earns his bucks, along with our receivers, even though they get less molla, boy I wish I could get a look at some All-22, why isn't Reed getting fed more, he was Loves go to guy so often in the past, if Doubs is out maybe that will change.

1. On that play, Q gets a plus for quick pressure after snap, a minus for completely whiffing the QB, and a plus for getting up and making the effort play. We maybe lost 4 yards due to the missed sack. :idn:

2. They didn't score on the dropped INT drive. We stopped Kittle short on 3rd and 15 on the next play. But instead of starting next offensive drive inside SF 35 after the INT, we started it at GB 29 after the punt.

When you see this play from the eye-in-the-sky view, you can’t help but watch it again thinking you didn’t just see what you saw from this rookie.

Cox is earning time, that's cool to see

However, you'll see a fair amount of variation from week to week and the % can sometimes be misleading.
Brenton Cox played 22 snaps last week and 22 snaps this week. But last week that represented only 31 % while this week it came in at 45 %

Ideal rotation is 65 % snaps for starters and 35 % for back ups- but that depends on opponent, game script, and how big a drop off there is.
You can get a better feel for it here -

https://www.footballguys.com/stats/snap ... &year=2024

One more note, footballguys has Colby Wooden's snaps listed at DE, but both the Packers and Ourlads depth charts list him as a DT.
But when I looked at the first 9ers drive, there is Colby Wooden lined up at DE - and he's wrestling Kittle before the shovel pass.

Heard Van Ness was benched mid game and then after coming back in had the incredible strip sack.
