We just can't compete with that.
We COULD extend AR and push as much cap as possible to late years of it, but not if we're planning on some day playing Love. Still could do it and plan on trading Love after about year 3.

I don't hate Brady, the man, but I do hate how he seems to always land in perfect circumstances.

I mean we could absolutely push Rodgers cap back and still cut Rodgers...even if it does mean HUGE dead cap.

I honestly think this will happen to Rodgers too in 2023. He will be a free agent and he will get to pick a team that is set up nicely for a 3 year run. Hell. If the Bucs play their cards right and suck in 2022....they may be in prime spot to double dip on great quarterbacks.

Casey Hayward was released. Not a scheme fit with new defense apparently. So may not be a fit with ours either. But interesting thought to bring him back.

I really just hope we can find a CB with the mass availability out there.

I think we missed out on Hayward’s quality years. He’s 32 now, I believe, and starting to show signs of age and injury. He’s still decent but I think he’s the type player who could fall off a cliff in a hurry.

Yeah, we're gonna see weird &%$@ in NO.

I'm waiting for 30 years at 300 million with 5 million as a signing bonus.....given to some mid tier starter. The bonus can then be spread over that time. Nothing else guaranteed/voidable.

Andrew Brandt is the best:
People, relax about the Taysom Hill deal. He's making what he was already making, just turning most of it into bonus to prorate out. They added phony years for proration - it's an automatic void after one year - and could have picked $140 trillion as the number. Doesn't matter.
Taysom Hill deal reminds me when I had to create phony incentives in order to have Cap carryover. I once gave Doug Pederson a $20 million bonus if he threw seven TDs in our last game. All funny money.

FB Kyle Juszczyk re-signs with the 49ers, which is only notable because he gets >5M a year (5yrs/27M). That's a lot for a FB  .

Have to admit, my secret wish has been to one day have such an absolute hammer, if only for the pancake highlights...

Yes, but imagine the DOUBLE PANCAKES with Dillon AND a dream FB... ;)

And yes, I'm kidding. A pure blocking FB is a thing of the past. A versatile FB/TE with speed and receiving ability in the mold of Deguara projects to much more overall production, even if lesser amount of pancakes.
And now I've made myself hungry. :thwap:

Josh HIll

How long will it take for people to understand that a) this is the way teams should do it, and b) this is the way our team does it? If we have a need right now, the draft isn't the answer. If we make a pick that "won't play much" for a year or two, it is intentional and not a waste of resources. This is team building. And it works.

Do y'all remember all those no-free-agent years under TT when the go-to complaint was that the team is forced to play too many rookies and that even though they're good players, they're bound to make some back-breaking rookie mistakes from time to time and we need to use free agency to fill out some veteran role players to make rookies force their way onto the field instead of being handed the role?

How even big TT fans like myself were still annoyed that more low-risk, low-money free agents weren't brought in as band-aids to fill immediate holes?

Like this is exactly what we asked for. And now it's "we wasted picks" if they don't play prominent roles right away.

Right now we have actual holes at CB and C. Both positions have guys who are not rookies who might be ready to step up; both positions should add a rookie for competition, and hopefully at least one position gets a low-end vet option to compete.

Everything else on the roster is a "could upgrade" not an actual hole. And so we'll continue drafting good players and hope that we find and develop upgrades. If the "right" fit comes along to provide a splash upgrade that requires clearing some space or taking a risk, I'd hope that gets explored and maybe done. But for the most part, we have 2 holes to fill and a lot of roster depth to draft and develop in the mean time.

Sorry, this is very Packers-centric in the around the league thread, but I said what I said.
