QBs leading their team to the SB on their rookie contract is rare.
Really? Troy Aikman, Kurt Warner, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Jake Delhomme, Rex Grossman, Jared Goff. I stopped looking them up after Goff.
Was Namath's contract a rookie contract? 1968 season.

you stopped because that's probably the end of the list :idn: , so out of what 60 years you come up with about 8 QB's to win a SB on a rookie deal, seems pretty rare to me.

it takes a team to win the big games, most rookie QB's lack what those SB winners have, Franny Tarkington can surely relate to that, probably best to not be able to win one.

Love has a young offense with a bunch of skill position talent, and a revamped defense that seem highly motivated, basically the formula we had going the last time we won the owl

nope only got the richest 3 year deal ever in 1965 :aok:

On January 2, 1965, Joe Namath rocked the football world by signing a 3 year contract with the New York Jets for a reported $427,000 contract, which back then was the most lucrative contract in the history of pro football.

Warner was not on his Rookie contract, he was on his 3rd contract and third team.

Delhomme was on this 2nd team and like 5th contract.

Care to list the other NFL teams he (Warner) was on the roster for when the season began?

Warner signed 2 contracts before his contract with the Rams where he won a Superbowl, Packers in a 2 year contract and Rams in a 1 year contract.

And yet, he wasn't on any roster for those contracts. If not on the roster, you don't get paid.

Ok, let me amend APBs statement to QB on a rookie contract where they signed the contract and were not cut before the season were actually on the opening day roster and got paid some amount of their contract.

Where do you get $120M? I see $4.2M for 2024 and then a 5th-year option of $16M. Works out to more like $22.2M over 6 years. Your point stands, but still huge money for a good, not great OT.
Oh I didn't even think about the 5th year option. I think I just threw out an estimate for the final year of a rookie contract. Not my normal detail post. Like a throwaway number to estimate what's up.

Yeah, really.

You were able to reel off a handful of QBs out of roughly 60 Super Bowls - 120ish starting QBs, mind you - where the QB was on his rookie contract.

The 2020 class has two Super Bowls under their belt already. Two, not one, as you incorrectly claimed.

Anyway, I'd say that qualifies as about right albeit rare. I stand by my statement.

It's also a bit of an irrelevant conversation prior to the rookie contract structure which is claimed to be the reason for rookie QB success (more resources to spend on the team, less on the QB). Top draft picks used to have near top of market contracts. So take everything before 2011 out.

It's very rare. The "get your QB on a rookie deal timeline" usually equates to/only applies to "get a home run QB pick" and if that were easy everyone would have one. Having a great QB is the key thing. Having a great QB below market rate is better. Having a QB on a rookie contract has some benefits but comes at the cost of an inexperienced QB. It's mostly future HoFers and All Pros who do anything on their rookie deals and they typically keep doing things on high market deals.

He'll probably argue about Staubach due to his Navy service costing him his first 5 seasons or so ;)

Like I said, I may be off a few. And for you young ones who only read stats, Staubach was drafted in 64 then served in the Navy until 69. See, he was an Annapolis graduate.

Griese lost to the Cowboys in year 4.
Bledsoe lost to the Packers in 97.

This wasn’t about QBs winning the Super Bowl, it was about them getting their team there on their first contract.
